Hey!
You know that even in summer if you are not using underquilt you will feel cold butt syndrome. So you need your underquilt even just for a day hikes, but I think to bring your regular underquilt if you are not planning to spend a night in it is OVERKILL..!! Why to take your 1kg underquilt and it's bulky too..?
Here you will learn how to make a cheap and awesome Summer Underquilt for your hammock by your self..! It also serves as an all year round Underquilt Protector..! So it works together with your regular underquilt by trapping more heat inside and by keeping breeze away + protecting your underquilt from mud and splashes.
This underquilt ended up 360g and it's synthetic, so Vegan friendly. :) It's double layer so it's warmer and double sided.
We tried this underquilt for many times, I made them for all my family and they are awesome..!!
Hope you make your Summer Underquilt too..!
Good luck..!

Man. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I was crawling through the internet jungle looking for the perfect underquilt design and YOU found it first and shared it. Short side tensioners are the best! Love you, man. (Although, I'll add some fancy thin insolation in between 2 layers, just to be a bit warmer on those cold nights)

Creative, packs small and cheap! Gonna check today if I can find some scraps to make this happen. I also live in EU (Sweden). Do you have any suggestions where I can find this kind of material for cheap? I know you got it from scrap but im not sure I'll find this type in my stores here without looking all over the place. Any online EU shops that could work? Thanks for making this, it's great for people who doesn't want to spend thousands on gear.

Thanx for tuning in! No, I don't know any online shop. Try your local fabric and sewing shops.

@@ImpulseFromWithin I will keep looking but no luck yet. Otherwise I will just scavenge some old tent and try to make something out of that. Btw, do you know if this will keep me warm around 5 Celsius? I will use it with a ~5-10c comfort rated sleeping bag and I really can't pack more volume into my bag.

@@JPazer This underquilt/ underquilt protector is good for summer day hikes and day chills. I would say 14°C, Maybe even 10°C I can't remember what was lowest to day chill in it..!? This underquilt blocks wind and traps heat- in summer just with plain hammock even in quite hot day you feel breeze of wind on your back and most of the time that's unconfortable. Maybe just in tropical hot days it's ok to use just hammock alone, but 95% times it's not cozy sleep in hammock alone in summer in daytime chilling in picnic. So there comes this awesome superlight underquilt, it's good all summer down to 10°C, BUT...!! It's not ment for sleeping a night, because you will be cold. When you sleep you fall into sleeping state and relax, summer nights are also chilly. You need proper insulation like thicker underquilt or sleeping pad in your hammock. All my family we use this underquilt in summer picnick days, it awesome, light and small !!! Before we were using thick 1.2kg underquilts also in daytime- its cozy, but they are quite bulky and heavy, and we found that this there is no need for having thise big underquilts for day hikes because this little dude works perfectly !! Yes, I tried to sleep in very windy summer night in ~12°C and I slept 3h perfectly but woke up cold changed to my thicker underquilt and it was fine. So you should use this only for summer days with some short maybe 1-2h power naps, also you can use it as a underquilt protector- so place it like outter layer for your main thick underquilt to protect it from splashes of rain/mud, to trap even more heat inside, to seal the gaps so that wind is not getting in. In other words it's great to make your system quite warmer in all year round. You can check my other tutorials how to make thicker underquilt from cheap sleeping bag and I've been testing it down to -10°C and other video down to extreme -27°C where I used two thick DIY underquilts. And in both videos you can see that I used this thin underquilt as an extra to make my system even more badass..! Hope this helps ! So check my playlists in channel: How To .. and other one: Motivation. Peace..

@@ImpulseFromWithin Wow thank you for taking time to write this, very helpful! I underestimated how much the underside robs your heat and I guess the only way to pack down small (for sleeping) would be one of those expensive down underquilts. I've been researching hammock camping for weeks now to try and get a cheaper kit that's packable but it's all been one big headache. Probably just gonna buy a down one and then make your summer underquilt for protection/day hikes. Or go with a pad+uquilt as you said but that seems like even more headaches to get right.. Thanks again for your time and the inspirational videos!

Why not just carry a hammock made with thicker material? Then you don't need an underquilt at all. I never need an underquilt with my canvas hammock.

Hey! Sorry no sewing, I've done 5 summer underquilts, 5 winter underquilts and 2 hammocks. And I don't wanna see a sewing machine for some time now. Also it would be cheaper to buy a underquilt protector in your situation since I'm in EU, shipping costs, taxes... My main goal is to motivate and encourage people to make stuff themselves..!!
