How to Make Wire Wrapped Heart Charm : Beginner Jewelry Tutorial

Learn how to make several styles of wire wrapped heart charms in this beginner-friendly jewelry tutorial.
Materials:
20 gauge dead soft round wire
--2.5" for first style
--3" for second style (3.5" for asymmetrical variant)
--two 1.75" pieces for third style
24 gauge dead soft round wire (approx 20" total)

I have just recently found your site! I am thrilled that you go to great pains to fully explain how and why you do something. I like your simple to very detailed designs. I was into beading and some very basic wire work a few years ago but put that aside and I'm now looking for something to use the wire and tools that I have already purchased and many of your tutorials show me just that. Thank you for sharing your beautiful artwork, and helping newbies like me learn from you.

Hey beautiful lady, still catching up with all of your videos. I love, love, love how your use on the wire you need is with minimal waste..I see some who just over use and that drives me crazy ( short drive by the way. ) And the way you flush cut your ends for a cleaner look..I'm obsessed with that too.. I finally bought the pliers you have and wondered why the hell it took me so long..I can hardly reach for my regular flat nose now. You are amazing and again I want to thank you.

Im knew to all this like KZfaq and wire wrapping, I like that your very clean in your instructions I have a question why dead soft why i thought that wasn't really to strong to make jewelry with ?

Once you start working it you actually work harden it and with small pieces it becomes very durable. Using half hard or hard your delicate curves will be more difficult. Better to save the hard wires for bigger projects like bracelets, bangles , large pendants..etc.

First of all, I'd like to say how much I enjoy your tutorials. Secondly, I was wondering if it is easier to achieve the shapes with heavier gauge wire? I have ordered 20ga wire from Amazon but was practicing with 28ga wire while I was waiting for it to arrive. I can't seem to get the lighter gauge wire to bend the way you get yours to. Is that a wire issue or a practice issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Jocelyn, do you think I could make a variation of the 2nd style heart, in order to hang a stone above and below? I'm attempting to make a pair of Grandmother earrings, for my Mom for Christmas. The Children and Grandchildren stones will be on each side of the heart, but wanted to place her stone on top and my Dad's below, to complete. What do you think?

Hi Rita! There are lots of ways to add a pearl to these designs! one option would be to thread the pearl on an eyepin/headpin, then attach it as a dangle below the heart. You could also use a piece of narrow gauge wire to place the pearl inside the heart, then wrap the ends of the wire to the outside edges of the heart.
