The MK7.5 Golf R will only charge from the 12v outlets with the key on. You can make a free modification to the Golf R and other MQB Volkswagens and Audis to have the 12v outlet charge ALL THE TIME! From the factory the Golf uses 15 power, or ignition switched on power. With one simple fuse swap, you can have all the 12v outlets in the car use 30 power. I came here because my cigarette ltr would not turn off. I used that fuse as a piggy back for my amp+subs and it ended up draining my battery. for weeks i’ve been trying to figure it out and it’s just as simple as moving fuse to the correct position. I'd heard of this but no one really made it as clear and concise as you have. I tended to just charge my phone in the car on the way to work and had been idling in the parking lot before I got into work because the power was shut off but now I do not need to. Thank you.

Great tip. Thanks. This works on a US 2018 Sportwagen 4Motion for the 3 - 12V outlets. My USB outlet does not stay on in either fuse position. It stays on until a door is opened or the alarm is set. It operates the same in either fuse position.

Confirmed to work on VW Touran 2017 (Touran Mk2 aka. Typ 5T). Not surprise because it is basically a 7-seat Golf Mk7. Before this video I thought that it is a configuration setting and a diagnostic tool is needed to change the behavior. But it is really an old-school hardware-controlled thing. ❤❤❤ Now finally (after three summers already) I can keep snacks and medicines refrigerated in the trunk while we are having a lunch break on a summer trip!

I got a 2024 jetta and I just did this and it worked I'm also putting sou.ds in my.jetta.and was looking for a.12v ignition and I used the bottom plug in after I switched the fuse I wired my line output convertor to it to turn on my amps ehn I push start and that to worked so win win for me thanks dude I been tryna figure out this fuse box all day

Thanks for the tip! Confirmed to work on my '23 Tiguan SE. (1) The USB-C ports up front remain powered up with the ignition off. (2) The wireless charging pad is not powered up with the ignition off--I guess it powers through the infotainment system. Also there's a note in the owner's manual, seems they really don't want you doing this: "Note the installation position, factory-standard fuse location as shown in the illustration."

I did this to my Scirocco, also added 2x solar panels to the rear boot plastic, for my dashcams, thursday im doing a lot of vcp,obd eleven,carista tweeking, and adding a voltmeter/usb quick charge instead on my front 12v socket., all during storm Dennis,

Thanks for the heads up!!! This configuration was already used in my 2017 ŠKODA Superb 206TSI 4x4 (MQB Platform), however my 2018 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg Edition (MQB Platform) did not have the 12v socket "always on"... But it is now... Thanks mate!!!

There may be some exceptions, but generally American made companies keep their cigarette lighters energized all the time. Non-American made ones tend to switch it on and off with accessory mode. I find the American method better. There are many applications where you want to have a cigarette lighter powered continuously. Of course, the best solution would be to allow the owner of the car to configure the cigarette lighter how they wish. No, that would make too many customers happy.

How do you do the mk6 golf tdi? The cigarette lighter fuse is position 42 but there isn't a half position to move the fuse up or down.

I always look for a constant power fuse port when hard wiring a dashcam, but I always use an in-line voltage monitor set to 11.8vdc.

This works on my 2024 VW GTI. Move fuse F52 downwards about 1/4 of an inch and the 12 volt outlet between the front seats is always on regardless if car is running or not.

Some Chrysler products in the mid 00s came with a similarly arranged fuse for the cigarette lighter, and the ones I've seen actually instructed you on the fuse box lid where to put the fuse whether you wanted always hot or key on hot.

I have a 2020 Tiguan and can confirm it has the same fuse setup. I need 30 power for my dashcam to work when the ignition is off. Do you know if a dashcam can drain all the battery in a day or two (if not driven) on 30 power from your experience?

Hello Charles. Thanks a lot for this wonderful video. I just love your content mate, it’s so worthy. I’m trying to turn off cigarette socket when ignition is off. I have a question for you, the 15 power metallic pin shown at 2:24 is not at all present in my Skoda octavia (which shares almost the same fuse box). Surprisingly, all the slots are same and also it has a slot like the one you show but it’s empty and no metallic connectors underneath, so its always in the original slot connecting to battery and I’m not able to change ciggy socket from all-time-on to with-ignition. Any help/pointers here from you is much appreciated.

How cool is that? My Jeep's horn doesn't work unless the key is on. I'll be checking to see if this might be an option. (Realizing it's a totally different manufacture, but who knows)

All videos I've seen show this fuse panel, I don't have that panel/ability to change where the fuse plug slightly in like you and other videos show. What about older cars that don't have all these little computers in them, what do we do to do keep the sig lighter always on? Thanks in advance!
