We have a 1989 Corvette in red with black convertible top. Approximately 79,000 miles. The original mufflers were worn out. We had a Magnaflow exhaust put on last summer. Nice rumble without being raspy or excessively loud. No droning either. We are happy with it. It has the right type of sound and the polished finish on them looks great as well. Very cool.

The system we used was one of the Cat-Back setups from Magnaflow. The mechanic that installed it said it went on fairly straight forward and it fit well without any modifications required. Looking forward to getting the Vette back on the road again now that winter seems to be subsiding here in Wisconsin!

I'd love to hear it..........can you do a video someday and post it here? I think the KBD's are the best for a C4 TPI, but with the CATS' or at least with hi-flow CATS. The KBD's are just like my old discontinued ANSA that I love, but I've always had the CATS and it has a very smooth tight EURO sound. ANSA was used on Ferrari, Lamborghini's, Maserati's in the early days.....

As an exhaust designer/maker/ fitter of more than 50 years experience, what you did is actually quiet smart... it does sound pretty good, and really ? I am surprised NOT that loud,, so many confuse noise with note.... when i start modifying mine i am going to do the same thing as you did with your mufflers with the ONE big cat i have in my system, if i were to take it off, it would not pass regs here in Aus..... keep up the good work fella... @BAndersen-ee1xy4 жыл бұрын
Cutting the baffling from a muffler is not something I would recommend. It only makes the exhaust excessively loud and can drastically interfere with good flow.

No.....it's a big cat, but also acts as resonator/muffler, but it's still a CAT. All CAT's do muffle and break-up sound waves going thru the ceramic honey-comb matrix.

@joeprinz43513 жыл бұрын
Im curious what your 2000 RPM and lower drone is like. I did straight through mufflers and havent modified my converters yet but I have pretty bad drone at 2000 and lower on highway. However, you are a 6 speed with maybe a 3.40 someting rear end. My 96 is on jackstands with a 3.73 on the bench ready to go on. I expect drone to be gone.. so while I have my exhaust system out to do that I may lightly modify my converters. I have a 2.56 rear a4 so its going be like straping a 747 engine on the rear when Im done.
@Doulop3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you will have a legit ride here soon. Honestly, the only drone I notice is between 55-65 on highway. Keep in mind, I always have the top off too. I wish you the best! Merry Christmas!

The C4 really begs for good sound insulation. The best thing I did with mine. Helps to take care of the droning sound.
@Doulop3 жыл бұрын
Heck yeah!! Best sound!
@Doulop3 жыл бұрын
Brian, what all did you do to achieve that?
@chrispompano3 жыл бұрын
They make a Rear Cross-over Y Pipe to address drone.......or start to research "DAVID VIZARD ZERO LOSS EXHAUST TERMINATION BOX" Google it. Lost's of images/articles. It's a calculated and built resonator box especially for the C4 Vette, but you must build it. Or find a center resonator for the LT1 C4 Vettes, which is a long resonator.

Thanks for the information! Happy new year!
@BAndersen-ee1xy4 жыл бұрын
I’ve a ‘96 LT4 with full Corsa S.S. exhaust + Dougs headers, the only shorties to use. I wish that guys that buy C4’s would get one thing through their heads: loud is not a performance sound! It isn’t something you want with your C4, you’ll just embarrass yourself. I’ve met guys that do muffler and/or cat delete, basically straight pipe or do other half ass measures, it sounds awful! The best thing to do is just save your money and get a system that is designed for the car to give a good performance boost. You also won’t lose hp with good cats. I get so many compliments on the sound of my Vette, and it doesn’t beat me over the head and piss off the neighbors with excessive noise. The engine is also modified with a bit of a cam, that has much to do with the sound. Just be sure to know the difference between a performance sound and just loud. Don’t look a poser and end up with a Corvette that just sounds like an old work truck.
@Doulop3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with the sound comment. Loud is just stupid. Great sound is key!
@MasterWitchDoctor3 жыл бұрын
remove the cats use some 2.5 inch resonators in the drive shaft cut out. do not use a 2 into 1 Y pipe use dual 2.5 inch exhaust then after the resonators use dual 3 inch 50 series 3 chamber flow masters. It sounds awesome and actually helps the engine breathe. Beyond that TPIs headers if you take the garbage tuned port intake off and use a miniram. Until you get rid of that POS stock intake youll be stuck with a weak engine that makes no hp above 5000 rpm.
@Doulop3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the advice. Maybe some day I can do this. Would love to!
@chrispompano3 жыл бұрын
What exact resonators did you use??????? Maybe a MagnaFlow True X, or DynoMax X-Muffler as a resonator? Or separate resonators?
@nightraven5760 Жыл бұрын
Odd question, but how did you do that fly-by shot? surely if it was your phone it would have been too high off the ground?
@Doulop Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks so much for asking. I actually used my GoPro. You are correct, the phone would have been too high. I knew that the wind going by would be too much and the GoPro would blow over or move so I zip tied the GoPro to a brick so it wouldn’t move. I had a friend standing in the field to the right to make sure no traffic came by and once I drove over and was gone in the distance, he picked it up and then I went back and picked him up.
