Overview and installation of an HVAC cold air oil diffuser. This nifty device distributes fragrance around the entire house using the A/C system. No more sprays or plug-ins that run out of smell in a few days.

I am also trying to figure out a technique to only allow the diffuser to work while the air handler is running. Using a smart plug will only turn the power to the diffuser off and on, which means it will reset it's frequency settings back to default. Some of the more expensive diffusers have an input to integrate an air pressure switch to tell it when the air handler is running. It would be nice to have a diffuser that could work with a Nest or some other brand of smart thermostat .

Sadly I never even thought about that myself! There’s a company called Scentair and they use dry air machines with cartridges you could also try. They supply both residential and businesses. They use little forced air machines but the newer ones are cool looking, have changeable light colors, are super quiet and can be controlled w your WiFi. Their cartridges are expensive at $55 for the regular version and like $85 for the pro version but they do really work well. But all you need to do is sign up for their emails and notifications because they have sales ALL the time. They don’t put out a bunch of mist, either.

Great video! I like the idea of connecting the hose via hvac system but my home hvac handler is in the attic. About 1900 sq feet and set for either 30/120 (work/pause), 40/120, and most recently 50/120 -- depending how much scent you want in the house. It’s more subtle on lower settings.

This is a great video but may I give a suggestion. You want to shorten the hose from the unit to the air conditioner because it will cause condensation and sit around the curve. If you shorten the lenghth by cutting off some of the tube, a shorter connection will allow a straight connection therefore the condensation it will drip back to the container.

Dude, you have a subscriber for LIFE now with that painters tape trick! Please make more videos! I have a tower diffuser right now I got on Amazon that scents a huge area. I paired it with the Westin Hotel clone that Aroma 360/Hotel Collection have (same company). The machine is kinda loud though. I just bought MY first HVAC diffuser made by Kevinleo. It has the absolute best reviews and even has an indicator light to show when it’s time to change the oil! It’s literally identical to the one Aroma 360 sells for a fraction of the price they charge for it. I really like the fact that you used caulking. Why wouldn’t I have thought about that?? Question: how far in did you stick the tubing and you said you have it pointing upward? Also, I know you said that you went to switching to a push to connect connector. Was that also 3/8”? It would be nice if you had a quick follow up video showing how you swapped out the connectors and reattached the new connections.

I can’t speak to the quality of other brands - this is the first and only unit I’ve tried. So far, the unit is working just as good as when I first got it. Also - I just started using an oil from The Flaming Candle based on a recommendation in the comments which is definitely more noticeable throughout the house than what I was using before. Having said that, if you decide to go with a less expensive machine like this one (compared to those from AromaTech or Aroma Retail) just be sure to use a good quality oil and adjust the settings accordingly.

Great video! I’m very eager to know how the fragrance oil is working from the candle supplier. I’ve been researching units and buying sample scents from multiple companies. The oils can get pretty expensive and I had also found a candle supplier and inquired if they were suitable for this type of scenting system. They were not familiar with this so couldn’t advise using their oils. Do you use it full strength or do you dilute it with anything? Any further update on that would be amazing! I’m starting to drive myself crazy with all this research 🤪

@UC3CKlR5dheb3PSITxREsDWQ not a bad idea. You can buy a pretty lengthy piece of the tubing from Home Depot (www.homedepot.com/p/UDP-5-16-in-I-D-x-7-16-in-O-D-x-20-ft-Clear-Vinyl-Tubing-T10007006/304185172) and they sell 10 ft, 20ft, and even plastic couplers if you wanted to extend it more. Having said that, I think the shorter the tube the better in terms of potency, so you may need to play with the settings to find a happy medium. My guess is the longer the tube, the more the machine will need to run (aka the oil will run out faster), but what you see in the video is as long as I’ve personally run it (I actually trimmed it down some since installing because I installed a push connector on the A/C duct rather than just silicon for a cleaner look. You can always return things to Home Depot and Amazon if you don’t get the results you’re looking for. Good luck!

I noticed where you drilled was directly above the mechanics of your unit. Are you not concerned those shavings from drilling will cause damage to your hvac system?
@_thediyguy
@_thediyguy Жыл бұрын
Not at all. Most of the shavings came out with the drill bit- but you could theoretically put a magnet under where you’re drilling to help catch some of the shavings on the other side if you’re worried about it. Then use the magnet to extract the shavings out of the hole you drilled (similar to those magnet wire pulls for drywall).

How did you have this working only when your hvac is working? Does it turn on and spray when you power it on?
@_thediyguy
@_thediyguy 2 жыл бұрын
There’s a few ways to do it but an easy way is a HomeKit smart plug with an automation rule to turn on when the temperature is below a certain number and off above a certain temperature - with the number being the same as the thermostat set temperature. So basically if the thermostat is set to 76 degrees, then a rule to turn on the smart plug when the temperature is at or below 76 (since the HVAC will be running to achieve that temperature). Another way to do it is just let it run throughout the day whether the hvac is on or off. Doing the latter works better than I thought because when the a/c kicks on, you get a nice burst of fragrance all over the house since it basically “queued up” in the ducts.
@yasieltrujillo8281
@yasieltrujillo8281 2 жыл бұрын
@@_thediyguy another way that I read online somewhere is using a temperature sensor. If you install a smart temparature sensor inside one of your AC vents and create an automation rule to turn on the diffuser (on a smart plug) only when the sensor temperature is below X degrees for example (when the AC turns on it's usually very cold in those ducts). This would mean the scent system would turn on a couple of seconds after the AC kicks on which is exactly what I was looking for.
@jaybroreviews
@jaybroreviews 26 күн бұрын
I just got a similar one of these hvac scent diffusers in my house and I love it! I have my ac set to run the fan all the time now to get the scent to go all over. But since the ac has to run all the time in Florida anyway, I might as well just set it back to auto. Btw how are you cleaning yours? Are you just using alcohol to clean it? Do you clean it every time you put a new fragrance in or do you let the fragrance oils mix sometimes? Also, an odd question: have you found that the type of ac filter you use makes a difference in how strong the scent you get is? I use a MERV-13 right now but my ac guy says to use an 8 or 9 at most and to just install a UV light to sanitize the air.

I just recently started trying essential oil blends from Walmart because they much cheaper. They seem to work, but I needed to increase the settings on the oil machine because they are not as strong. @@_thediyguy I recommend looking into fragrance oils from candle-making companies. The Flaming Candle, Cierra Candle Co, Wellington Fragrance, and others. Anything you're buying at Walmart is synthetic (as are fragrance oils) despite being called "essential oils", and the quality from the companies I listed will be much better. If you're interested in real essential oils, Eden Botanicals is the best (but very $ since their oils are real). Awesome video and installation by the way. Quick thought I had when watching is you may want to cut the tubing to the minimum length possible for a more efficient diffusion.
