*Balance* . I have a semi-open concept space. I may only entertain a few times per year, having a large dining table was important to me. Compared to the tiny table the previous owner had in the space, my large table fills the space and looks grand. I agree, form and function matter, don't be afraid to go BIG in small spaces. It's a statement.

My painter husband would consider painting the house in high gloss as " Irreconcilable differences" on divorce papers 😂 He uses it for very specific items but not walls. I do have the luxury of getting walls and things repainted, if I am not happy with colour or dirt, 🙈 in exchange for his favourite dinner so it works for us.

Hi from Germany, dearest Kristen! I‘ve watched several of your videos recentely and appreciate especially those tips you provide for small spaces. Since I’ve moved into a tiny, but lovely modern single-room studio appartement (I use to call it „my hotel-room“) I especially enjoyed every second of THIS video! Your advice to use larger pieces of wall art mixed with smaller ones and to place a tall plant together with a hometrainer (I do own one!) will be gamechangers to uplift the height of my place 🤗💛 THANK YOU!!! 💐👏

When we found the colour we wanted for our kitchen, it only came in semi-gloss. We gritted our teeth and tried it. It looked fantastic. When we had to re-do a wall a few years later, eggshell was available, so we thought we'd give it a try. It didn't look as good. The glossier finish made the colour look brighter and fresher.

Great ideas. I have a wide open space LR, DR and kitchen all together. Having a terrible time figuring out how to get some horizontal space. Il looking into one of those tables that fold up into a piece of furniture when closed and opens up to seat 12. Then I would be able to open the LR to fit some horizontal surfaces in.

I don’t know why I watched this video, other than I enjoy watching your videos in general. The only small room in my 850 sq ft apartment is the kitchen (10x6). My bedroom is 13x14, but I only have four pieces of furniture (bed, dresser, vanity, small bookcase/nightstand). My L-shaped 16x12 lr w 10x6 dr has a workdesk, dr table/chairs, loveseat, two comfy chairs, two small end tables. I’m a “warm minimalist”, so getting my space to feel smaller w/out being cluttered is my goal.

I adore the lacquered walls! I'd only do it if I was ready to go the Fine Paints of Europe route and get pro skimcoating, spraying, sanding, and respraying to make it perfect. I'm old enough to remember when people slapped shiny paint on their walls if they had kids or just never wanted to paint again in their lifetimes - "You can wipe it off!" LOL. It wasn't good. I did do a high gloss blue paint on my front door - it's nice, but it is brush mark city. I didn't want to roll it on to avoid the stippling, but in hindsight, a foam roller might have been a better option.
@vaderladyl
@vaderladyl Жыл бұрын
I come from that era and while I never hated it, I think it looks nicer only on certain things and on perfect, unblemished walls and in a upper scale style decor. Mind you that I don't do flat paint but eggshell or even satin on walls or semi gloss on certain areas prone to premature damage and it s really a breeze to clean and the shine is not as prominent as you would think.The whole point of gloss is to make paint easier to clean among other features. I also have a blue door painted with glossier paint and the trick is really rolling it on with the foam or the velvet roller, no marks or stippling whatsoever.
@MizJilly
@MizJilly Жыл бұрын
@@vaderladyl I agree. I used Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace (very white) in Eggshell in my kitchen and I've been able to scrub off grease and spills, and it has no visible shine. I've even gone from semigloss down to Pearl finish on my trim and baseboards. It's durable and looks a lot more subtle.

No high gloss paint comes into my house on any wall. Anything above eggshell is too reflective. I don't appreciate reflection everywhere, it makes the place not at ease. Then again, I do like one well-placed large mirror a lot in my not too big living space. Especially when opposite of a window. That is enough to get me a lot more light in and the reflection is beautiful (trees from outside) and contained.
