I still have a 2010 S80. Has 141k miles on it and have had zero problems. I have not changed the transmission fluid but the shifts are still so smooth to this day. I only recently changed the spark plugs at 130k. Volvo had run it thru extensively not that long ago and found absolutely no issues.

I have a 2003 S60 2.0T currently sitting at 300.000km , oil changed every 10.000km , never had any issues with neither the engine nor the transmission. Also have a 2012 XC60 D5 R design that I recently purchased, sitting at 170.000km. Both fantastic cars. Change the fluids and perform preventive maintenance and these cars will just keep going and going. Thanks for all your videos 😀

I had a 96 Volvo 850 I sold with 280,000 miles on it still running perfect, then drove a 2005 S60 to 120k, and then upgraded to a 2010 XC90 which now has 130,000 and is my daily driver. With good maintenance Volvo never lets you down!

Interesting video - thanks. I have owned a number of high mileage Volvos over the years. I had a 1981 Volvo 244, that I sold in 2005 with well over 300k miles and currently have a 1994 Volvo 850SE with 210k miles and a 2002 Volvo V70 with 170k miles. In my experience the age of the vehicle is another factor as rubber parts perish. I always fit Volvo parts and service (myself) according to the manufacturer’s guidance. That is, I have never changed oils, etc before the recommended service intervals. I would certainly not change a thing like a wheel bearing without reason (for one things Volvo parts are expensive and changing a wheel bearing is quite a big job for me). Where I may be different from some owners of older high-mileage cars is that I have owned all my Volvos from new / nearly new. The other point is that, in my case, what has ended the life of the car has been rust. Volvos don’t rust much and back in the 1980s were much better than most of the competition (some people seem to forget this).

1: change the oil regularly 2: service the car regularly 3: don't drive like an absolute tit.

96 Volvo 850 base model 5 spd manual wagon here. Daily driver at 393k miles. Still runs fantastic.

Maintain underneath the car. Get the hose and rinse off the underneath with clean water. Let dry. Get a couple of cans of lubricant spray with silicone. Spray all the bushings, axle boots, shock and strut bushings etc. keeping the bushings from drying out is key. Don’t forget door hinges hood hinges. Keep battery terminals clean and tight. After cleaning the terminals put a light coat not to much of Vaseline on the terminals to keep from getting that crusty crap and corrosion. Make sure if you remove your battery terminals you have your radio code. Some need a code to reset the radio. Your mechanic can remove terminals and keep the charge in the system so you don’t lose power. You can get the code from the dealer. Bring in your registration for proof of ownership. There may be a labor charge. Your Welcome😁

I have a 350000 km P3 Volvo S80 3.0 T6 Just filter and oil maintenance has been done every 10000 km. Just that. Engine is still working as it should and super smooth. Consumption is good also.

Thanks for this topic. My V70, D2 2014 covered 102,000 then auto gearbox played up. I am so angry with Volvo, who say that the box doesn't need an oil change, so main dealer did not have it on their schedule. Oil change did not cure it, so a flush was performed. Now seems OK, but has cost over £600. OWNERS BEWARE.

Interesting video. Im a Brit living over in Sweden. Got 2 high milage Volvos. One v70 2.5T at 320,000 kms and an xc70 2016 D4 at 200,000 kms. Both are still solid cars, the xc70 still has that new car smell and ride handling is very solid. When I first moved here I was quite sceptical on buying cars over 150,000 kms, it’s really common to see high mileage cars here. If you did find a car under this sort of milage they will sell for a high price double or triple the price as what you would expect from the UK. Its a different selling game here. I had to let go of how you buy cars in the UK and get used to the Swedish way of searching for your car. I found that Swedes love to travel far in there car its a massive country when you see the map and they will work the car hard. But saying that they seem to rarely be stuck in traffic so the road journeys they do is just smooth all the way if that is less punishment on the engine.

I own a s60 T5 platinum inscription model. 99,000 miles on the clock. I love it. Bought for $19,000 Retailed new for $40,000 The luxury inside is absolutely unmatched. Did you know that the seats were designed by a chiropractor? So comfortable! Keyless entry. Keyless start. Heated seats and steering wheel. Rear solar curtains, one of which you can operate from the console. Adaptive cruise control. Collision warning. Lane keep assisting. Automatic start stop Led lights in cupholders and doors when opened. Very effective sunroof... One touch window open. Etc....

I have a 98 S70 with 210000 runs very well shifts well , hes right maintenance and quality replacement parts /oil only oil leak was the dip stick tube and oil cap seal from age

You must change auto transmission fluid at 50.000 miles intervals I have a C30 with the AW 55 Aisin transmission which is owned by Toyota this transmission is excellent it just needs oil changes at different mileage

Nice car! I have just bought a Volvo S80 MK1 with 718K miles, nearly 1.150 million kilometres, which I am going to repair and carry on driving. its on its second engine though, but it has done nearly 370k since it was fitted in the car.

I own V60 d4, 5 cylinder 163hp AWD. Car has 200.000km and out of regular service in volvo official, i had to change the radiator and now i gonna replace front shock absorber with spare parts, (860 euros both of them and all the components jusy not the spring). Transmission oil changed at 100.000km, and motor oil every 15.000km Everything else works perfect. Great car

I have a B5244t5 S60 since 2014 and change the oil every 12,000 miles. That said, it also drinks some oil so. I currently have 278,000 kms. Bought it at 62,000 kms, it's a manual. I didn't have any major issues with it, apart from maintenance. It's an '07 car, I hope to drive another 100,000 kms with it.

Got a 2001 S80 2,5tdi with 317 000km. Still runs smooth, but got to replace the wheel bearings in front :)

I got a 2011 c70 t5 a couple of years back and have done a lot of work on it. It was kind of a fixer upper when i got it, however the engine has always run perfectly with no issues. Its at 215000 miles right now and i bought it at 169000 and the engine sounds and runs exactly the same as when i bought it. There was just a lot of tire/wheel/tie rod work that needed attention. As of right now though she runs great and i intend on making it last to 300000 if im able

My V70 d5 had almost 500k km when I sold it. I now have a V70 2.0t which has so far had four new injection nozzles fitted (€1100) and a new windscreen thanks to a Volvo production problem which they refuse to accept. My faith in 'volvo for life' is considerably less than it was.

I have a V70 2.4 petrol. Also a 59 plate. Approaching 115000 miles, which I expect I will get to before the end of the year. No more than an annual service at my local garage needed, but the last 3 services have been just short of £1000 each time. 😖 I previously had a 960, 740, and 240. The 240 I got from my neighbour a few doors away and his wife didn't want him to sell it, so she was really upset when it was still parked in the same road! 😂

Great video. I have 2011 V70 D3 5cyl Volvo 2.0 engine automatic taxi model with 593000km. Oil cooler changed and automatic gearbox valvebody. Oil change every 20tkm as Volvo recommends and 80tkm autom. oil change with solvent wash and then oil flush with circulation takes 8 liters.

I have a 2002 V70 d5 with 220,000 miles and it's still on the original clutch, exhaust and springs and dampers. Oil change every 5,000 miles,it doesn't use any between changes.

I have a 2015 S80 2.4 D5 ( Summum ) - 37.000 miles :D so probably the "newest s80 " :D

My 2002 V70 D5 got to 294,000 miles before I changed... to a P3 V70 ;) It had a few niggly things wrong but it was sold to someone who was going to keep it going so that's good. New car has 98k on it so planty of scope to clock up some more.

I have a 430.000 km V70 II (2004) with D5 motor (163 PS version) and manual transmission. I never changed the transmission oil and every 20.000 km the oil and oil filter. Motor filter was changed about every 3 years. Over time there were several issues with all the rubber elements of the chassis. I had to replace the timing and auxiliary belt two times based on the km prentively. The manual brake is always a problem, but otherwise I had no issues and did nothing special. I am a slow driver on the Autobahn with about 120 km/h top speed most of the time and rarely 180 km/h. I always wait until the motor is at about 80 °C or more before I do a harder acceleration.

Nice research. I just bought a 2019 Volvo V90 cross-country. It's brand new with 105.000 miles. The only problem is rear positioning light malfunction. Somehow water gets in the left one.

Just sold my v50 with a touch over 200 thousand on the clock with nothing wrong with it to buy a newer xc60 fwd 2.0d with 100 thousand on the clock which drove spot on for a week and then now have an intermittent starting issue.. had new crank sensor £100, fuel temp sensor £113, and now showing the clutch switch sensor is faulty.. another £119, praying that this switch deals with the issues. absolutely love my volvo's but this one is really starting to test my patience. I've always maintained by Volvo's regardless of cost and they've always looked after me. as Trigger says.. look after your broom!

Got a V50 currently with 118,000 miles in the clock. Had her 7 years now but bought her at 98,000, so I guess we’re low-ish mileage users (never used for work in London sand now I’m retired). About to do a Cat replacement at my local mechanic because Kwikfit quoted £3,000 for the job 😂 Anyway, I sourced the Cat and Lambdas myself because there’s no Volvo dealer anywhere near me. The irony is that the Cat isn’t the problem, it’s the leaky flexi pipe that I’ve been ignoring the last 2 services, so my fault. I’ve learnt my lesson now. Leaking engine mount next I think. I’m now not so sure about the ease of fixing for Volvo engineered cars like my model. If the Cat is so expensive then why on earth do we have replace one just for a flexi pipe? Rant over……

Scrapped my 2005 V70 D5 2 years ago with 320,000 miles on the clock. Main reason for scrapping was the steering wheel was on the wrong side after moving to main land Europe and given the low value of old cars there was no point messing around for a few hundred quid. It went to the scrap yard with original untouched engine, gearbox (inc original oil), suspension, exhaust and even battery. Nice to see people looking after their cars but a serious amount of money seems to be wasted on engine oil reading some of the comments below. Every 12k miles was the given interval which I kept to and the engine burnt no oil and lost no performance. I have a similar setup now on an E class merc with 15K mile intervals and at 150K miles no sign of oil consumption. Totally agree with using original service parts and oil. Cam belts is the other one I would trust from Volvo, using only volvo parts there were no issues with 90K mile self changes (about 80quid for the parts from volvo). Conclusion, choose a good quality car, look after it, and appreciate that we have never had it so good :-)

The leather seats in the P3 (especially the blond interior) cracks and die will wear out rather quickley. You need to keep them cleaned and conditioned to get any life our of the leather. The leather as Drive Life mentioned is soft and so needs care to maintain.

2010 V50 1.6 DRIVe on 170,000 - although recently lots has gone wrong with it and now being fixed bit by bit - DPF, TCV, EGR, Injectors, Turbo... When it's all fixed expect another 170k at least

2004 XC70...205,000 miles

The problem I have is finding replacement bumpers & body trim for my XC70 after near 200k miles on rural roads, encounters with pheasants, deer, small branches. Volvo just say the trim is not available as the car is older than 10 years after the model was last produced.

I change oil every 10 000 km with Mann or original oil filter. Every 3. Oil change doing in Volvo cause I want clean service book.

Mines a v70 p3 D5 2008 on 188k miles. Ex NHS vehicle. All with genuine parts from what I can see. Even pads and wiper blades 😂 I’ve serviced it and done timing belt with genuine parts and hopefully get another 100k out of it.

The Euro3 D5 engine is virtually bullet proof. I once saw a V70 D5 on ebay with 624,000 on the clock. I'd like to know how many early Euro4 D5/2.4D '55-57' (that haven't had a DPF delete) make it past 300k.

I have the apparently infamous (and uniquely unreliable, for a Volvo) S60 T4 with the Ford EcoBoost 1.6 turbo and wet-clutch Powershift MPS6. Currently at 100k km for a 2011 car, wanna see how much I can help the reliability with rigorous maintenance as mentioned in this video. I honestly don’t expect it to hit 200,000+ km without the engine or gearbox needing any major work but would be a testament if I do. Hahaha. Any thoughts?

Not gonna lie I made it to 243k before I sold mine because everything rubber was failing again and again. Aftermarket parts just don't last as long. And if you mixed city and highway driving chances are your exhaust may start to go. Basically time is the biggest killer of cars and often you'll get bored of your car before you hit 300k.

Pffft, I ran my V70 P3 to 430,000 miles, self maintained at full mileage intervals.

Myn iys at 200.000 miles and i only just boght it. Srller sait its only just thogh the bake in period. Witch is absolutely true. Im going to do all sorts of preventativ maintenence, becaus in my experence with lits of old/youngies, preventativ maintenence is key to longjevety.
