I do exactly what he says. Water to look for adults, check underside leaf to look for eggs. It works. They were horrible last year and they were on multiple types of plants. Cantaloupe, pumpkin, squash, and zucchini. I didn’t know what they were, but I learned about them and this year, I seem to have them under control.

great advice. Something I just tried that worked well, I used Sevin with sulphor on my squash and pumpkin seedlings to stop the birds and squirrels from uprooting and eating them. my first plantings were all destroyed but with sulphor, the next batch all survived and now i have a nice patch. I might try dusting seeds and see how it works in the ground.

Apparently it's best to not squash them but put them in soapy water. When you squash them, they release a pheromone that actually attracts more of them. Same goes for cucumber beetles.

I had these so bad the last time I grew squash that I chose not to grow any squash last year. I'm hoping that not finding any food last year will reduce how many adults come back this year. I also heard that another way to get rid of the eggs without damaging the leaf is to use a lighter. The eggs will burst instantly if you apply flame to them, but the flame isn't on the leaf long enough to cause damage

I absolutely love your videos and the knowledge you share. You’ve inspired me and helped my confidence in growing and maintaining my garden. I was hoping you were talking about squash vine borers instead. That is my biggest issue here in Zone 9…Houston, Tx. I’m out there at least 3x/day hunting for eggs which are laid at the base and occasionally on the leaf stems. The adults fly quickly and rarely sit still long to be caught. The squash bug you’ve presented here is a problem on my tomatoes and cucumbers. Do you have a solution for the squash vine borers? Would love to know your thoughts about the Robber Fly. I’ve never had an issue with them until this year. Thanks so much.

I am in Utah and the squash bugs in my garden are terrible! I don’t know how to get control. My husband and I are in the garden every night removing eggs and squishing bugs. They beat us every year. We are at a loss. We try diatomaceous earth on nymphs and insecticidal soap and tape rollers for egg removal. HELP PLEASE 🙏🏼

When it's an infestation. You tried by hand, you tried organic, and crops are at risk. I recommend Sevin. Not organic. Use it and go back to organic ways. Also reseed some squash now. Stupid question: Are these the same as squash vine borers? Or is that a different demon?

No these suck the life out of leaves and such. The vine bores goes into the vine and eats the center. Not a stupid question. The Rusted Garden Vegetable Seeds & Home Garden Supplies: www.therustedgarden.com Earn 15% and become a TRG Affiliate for our seed & garden shop Sign Up Here: bit.ly/4aarkDD
