What do you guys think of the differences in the light output on these HID's? The install wasn't too hard but it was definitely worth it! I can actually see at night!

I have tested these out in many different scenarios at night an noticed no blinding effect. I DID have to adjust my fog lights down from factory though to prevent the light from scattering.

This is really late...but I am doing this same install (JDM brand and everything! LOL). The Gen 5 DIY harness already has the relays necessary to provide clean power to the headlight assembly. That's the reason you didn't end up needing the extra relay harness that came with the kit.

I ran HID on my 2003 Silverado and i have to say living out in the country with little in the way of city lights they suck with warm up. I'd prefer LED that has instant light. On both my Silverado and my 2o15 Colorado Z71 I bought last June. Same color as yours but extended cab.

Absolutely true! My only concern is LEDs don't work so well in a projection housing. The light output is nowhere near as good as it is with HIDs while in a projection housing.

Wondering if you know how this would do on a '21 Colorado. I'm having difficulty finding some bulbs and/or HID kits that say they fit the '21. Most only list for '20. Thx for your time. Are there links to the equipment you installed/mentioned on this video that I'm missing?

Hey there so I have a 2015 Z71 is the DIY harness necessary? I would like the HID but need a little direction I have the Flashbacks you bought as well as the JDM fogs. I was also wondering if you knew of a blinker fuse to stop the hyper flash instead of the resistor route? Thanks again in advance!!

There is not a fuse or relay for the turn signal hyper flash it's programmed in the BCM which is why you need the resistors which come with the Gen5diy harness. That harness also makes the install of the HIDs a lot easier and provides clean power. So no it's not needed but it's definitely recommended for what you are doing.

For projector style headlights H11 use HID. For reflector style use LED's. If you want maximum light out put on your projects use 55w. Less lifetime but more output. In the video he used reasonable 35w. And yes, 55w will blind other drivers.

Exactly. The 35w HID is more than enough anything more is overkill and will blind other drivers

Thank you so much for all the Colorado content. I am having an issue and hoped you could shed some light. I used the gen5diy harness to relocate my drls to the turn signals. I installed diode dynamics switchbacks. So the harness does work, but when driving (DRLs on) the white light flickers. This does not happen when the lights are manually turned on or at night. I suspect its because of the lower voltage for drl functionality. I'm thinking to return the diode dynamics and try the LEDs you used here. Do u think they are different from the diode dynamics in some way?

They could be. That would be my first guess because I have no issues with mine. The ones I bought are probably cheaper than the diode dynamics as well.

I just watched your entire install again, looks like you just connected the switchbacks and used the resistors that came with the gen5diy harness. That's what I did too, but I think it's something about the diode dynamics that doesnt like the power coming in. Thanks again man, appreciate and enjoy all you do.

I have a two part question does a 2020 come pre wired to add fog lamps and if not what type of harness will I have to by that will work for LED? Second part would I have to take it in after the install to have it program to the computer or are they plug and play?

I believe they are not pre-wired and have to be installed separately. I'm not 100% sure though.

Where I mounted mine up at the top is good for airflow. Nothing has been melted from them so it's a good placement. These are the resistors you'd need: amzn.to/2XFfX4E

how did the light pattern on the road work out with the headlights? ie, still the same pattern as to not blind oncoming drivers? Don't need to drive around with people constantly flashing their brights at me

The lights are adjustable and to keep things safe and happy for everybody you would want to adjust them down, especially if you get a leveling kit like I have. 👍

Low beams on the Colorado are projector headlights. You shouldn't have any issue with blinding drivers. The fog lights are reflector but because they sit so low you shouldn't have a problem.

So I just got a new to me 2018 Colorado Z71. Wasn’t aware that HID wasn’t standard in 2018 for the Z71. However whom ever owned the truck before put all HID’s in (very bright). However I noticed that at engine idle the left low beam flickers ever so slightly... suggestions? Truck only has 29k miles on it so I don’t think the alternator would be bad already, maybe something in wiring? Thanks in advance.

Are you sure they are HIDs? If they are you would need some sort of anti flicker but if they aren't you probably just need a new set of LEDs.

You would have to pull them out of the headlight to see if the bulb looks like an LED or an HID. You can take a picture of it and send it to me and I'll be able to tell you.

No. Switchback is only if you want the led to glow white until the turn signal is used.

Quick question....I'm looking for some help finding some great led headlight bulbs for my 2019 Colorado. I really don't want the hassle of wiring harnesses or anything like that. Any suggestions on some simple plug and play bulbs? I see JDM ASTAR on Amazon. Would you recommend something that I could find? Thanks any advice is greatly appreciated.

@@HorsePowerObsessed I decided to go HID question though would I need to install the wiring harness for just installing the low and high beam bulbs. I'm keeping the stock amber turn light bulbs. By the way my third brake light and stubby antenna just arrived. Tail lights will be here Monday. I've upgraded the interior lights to led along with the tag lights. My Colorado is black so it looks incredible!!! Thanks fo your insight on the mods.

You don't need that harness if you're just doing HIDs. I did have an issue with water with the tail lights and 3rd brake light but I have a video coming soon showing how to fix it. Really easy and really cheap. The tail lights totally changed the look of the truck so I did not want to go back to stock!

And do they come with a ballast box? Do our truck come with the headlight housing integrated with a ballast? My bad three questions. I'll have more questions soon I'm sure. The LEDs don't output light as well as HIDs do in a projection housing. Or do you mean changing out the entire headlight housing?

Projector headlights are designed for HID bulbs for maximum light output. LED's are more for reflector style.

Ismael Carrillo not true, almost all new vehicles today have LED, my Buick Enclave has projectors and has factory LED and they are brighter than any HID I’ve ever ran. Also don’t have all that wiring, no flicker, and most of all no warm up time! I’ll be installing LED’s in my 16 Colorado

So you were able to tuck the entire HID kit inside of there? Interesting. Just got the Doide Dynamic LED's and I'm not too impressed. Also, did you do any adjusting for the beam since your truck is leveled and 2inch higher?

I did have to adjust the beam down lower after I leveled the truck since it was too high at that point. The dust covers had to be modified to allow the wires to exit the back so the ballast could be mounted outside of the headlight (too big to mount inside) but the HID kit has a rubber grommet that keeps the dust covers water/dust tight after you make a hole for the wires to exit.

I totally didnt think about that. Nice! One more question.. do the ballasts get super hot to where you would need to install them against metal frame or something of the sort? I've only ever used LED. I've been interested in HID, especially with my colorado having projectors. Thank you

The ballasts don't get hot, they get warm but not enough to be a problem.

LEDs actually output less light in the projection housing. HIDs have superior light output in the Z71 headlight. 👍

I never understood why all you guys insist on adding load resistors & risk moisture corrosion by compromising the factory wire harness to stop “hyper flashing” instead of replacing the stock flasher relay with a $10 LED relay!?

My load resistors don't touch the stock wiring, It came with an aftermarket harness. Not just that, there is no flasher relay for the Colorado it's built into the BCM.
