With the "Abercrombie & Fitch model" line & the way it immediately placated the older, white parents, I think it was meant to be satirical commentary on the fetishizing of biracial people.

I was hoping it was a joke, but she and Jessica Williams say it so much that I think they mean it. There's a video on here where Jessica says that mixed babies are better looking than both white and black babies.

Most interracial dating here in the States usually has one Caucasian partner. In my case, I'm East Asian and my fiance is Latino. Living in the Midwest...we get a lot of stares. Our parents could care less though :)

I never really thought about it, but that's true. And it's almost exclusively what we see represented in the media as far as interracial relationships.

This was adorable. I think people should take this with a grain of salt. My situation my parents never knew I dated white guys. I did not warn when they met my boyfriend which is now my husband and the only guy they have ever met. When I was introduced to my husband's family he did not warn them either. I honestly do not think you have to warn your parents honestly. unless you know your parents are racist then you would warn the person your dating instead. Everyone knows there family and what they will accept. Some families what you to date within religion, tribe or region of country even if you are the same race. At the end of the day when you love someone it does not matter what anyone thinks including your mother or father.

but you purposely went for white guys based on this comment, so you are also guilty of fetishizing white guys... if race doesn't matter, why mention it?

On a serious note, i don't really see why you would have to tell your parents that the person you're dating is black anymore than you would have to tell them they are white. If either of my kids brought home a partner that was not Caucasian then i would still take them on their personality and give them time to show me if they are a good fit. Ultimately it is my child's choice though and I do not have to love or even like them. But i have learnt that i am a much more open and loving parent than those that try to control what their kids do.

Just becuase your cool doesn't mean your parents or grandparents are 100% ok with it. Remember they were raised in a time period were it socially wasn't exceptable. So just letting them know, can really take away the ah! Moment when they open the door and see a black person.

Rel1369 You are not everybody. Some people might not be as evolved or open-minded. This video is made by a woman of color. Maybe we could take her seriously? Respect that she is making a funny about what she lives every day.

adriane lind Well i was raised in a time and place where mixed race relationships were very rare. Australia in the 70's, the main foreigners i knew of were Greek and Italian, I didn't even know much about Aboriginals then. Plus i am not saying that is how it is, i am saying why do others make it so separate. No-one in a white family would tell their parents they are dating a white person (the same for the opposite) so i don't understand the need for it if they are dating someone different to their own race. My parents never questioned race and it wasn't until i was in high school that i was exposed to the concept of their being a difference. To me its about people, not where they were born. I find dickheads are from everywhere.

This was really cute and also educational. Thanks. I self-identify as white and I have to be educated sometimes about how it is for people of color in a predominately white enviroment, not because I am a racist pig, but because I can't know what you know. So I am grateful for the dialogue that has at last sprung about since the Black Lives Matter movement began full throttle last year. I was a little girl when MLK was assassinated. I just saw Selma, the great movie about that period. And saw The Butler, The Help, and I try to seek out other movies with black casts or casts with majority people of color. I want to be part of the change and I know that even when I think I am not racist I am racist. My black friends in the early 70's taught me that when I was at college with them. I would go eat pancakes with my black male friend, just a friend mind you, and afterwards I would have undercover cops following my car all around in the small town in Iowa were I started college. And at the pancake house, during the day, you could hear everyone's eyes on us as we went to sit at our table and order. Later, in Western Europe, where I have lived much of my life, one of my best friends was half Ethopian/Egyptian, half white Germanic European. Her daughter had 1/4 African blood, with kinky blond hair and very golden cafe au lait skin. The dirty looks we got from old woman as walked with our lovely little girls down the streets of our posh neighborhood were so shocking, every day. So really, thanks for this Phoebe Robinson, it was funny, but it was very erudite too.
