I don't know what it is (telepathy?) but when i'm thinking about something, as an amateur i'm trying to figure out some sax-related topic you manage to do a video just about it. Thank you.

Great info. I used to be a trumpet player earlier in life and have been revisiting articulation and trying to apply it to guitar recently. This is very helpful. I appreciate the nuances demonstrated here and that there's more to it than simply accenting the off beats.

No word of a lie you're the reason why I've moved from alto to Tenor. 😎🎷 Love the Caravan and Yardbird suite covers. Hope when this lockdown is over I can go to one of your gigs. Thanks for all the wisdom and advise! 😎🎷 Scott Sheffield UK

This is some of the best teaching - in any area - I've ever come across. Is this one of the benefits of COVID here? Would Chad be putting so much energy into helping us learn if all the gigs were still going on? I'm so grateful - and I'm getting so much incredibly practical help out of Chad's stuff.

Hi Chad! Today you are the best in of world in jazz articulations! You are really fast! Would right to say, in the ascending phrases you can mute the up beat. Using the mute tongue technique? Best whises,

Chad, if i'm playing Du - Dn - Du, third "Du" is normally attacked? or it produces when i take my tongue off the reed after the second "Dn"? Should i take my tongue first and attack again, or just take tongue off?Thanks for great lesson!)

Do you think "tip of the tongue, tip of the reed" for articulation? I'm curious to know what part of your tongue is dampening the reed when you do "den." Thanks Chad, this was really great!

I've picked up this articulation approach just by playing over the years, but never thought it through this clearly. I feel like my tonguing for classical styles has become very slow so wonder if it's hard to go back to a tah or dah for every note. Anybody?

Instead of seeing the bebop scale as adding one chromatic approach note to a major (for example) scale, you could see it as adding four approach notes (chromatic or diatonic) to a major 7 (again, for example) arpeggio. I find this way of considering that scale less random :)

Amateur jazz bassist here. Any tips on how to apply this to an instrument where the main form of production is with the finger rather than the tongue and the air column? I can repeat the syllables like the drummer you mentioned, but the way forward I see is to learn lines by singing them and then just try to imitate that on the bass. Thoughts?

Hey Chad! One question for you : Is it possible to slow down the forgetting process during a break? I was working on a transcription and during these holidays I traveled to see my family and didn't practice for like 2 weeks. And when I came back home, I found out my fingers had forgotten a lot of things :-S Any tips for me? :)

are you able to say improvise over a standard with a metronome, without the backing track so you must sing the chord changes in your head while spontaneously improvising... are those set of skills useful? or do you do it yourself?

Hi everyone! Can we aplicate this articulation to the clarinet too?
@isaiahd9947
@isaiahd9947 2 жыл бұрын
Can't see why not. As a sax and former clarinet player, both instruments have the same mouthpiece/reed structure so you can essentially do the same things, only some things are harder on each instrument because of the difference in the length/material of the instruments and the size of the mouthpiece/reeds.

So on the basic up the bebop scale to start with: you tongue doo then you also tongue den all the way up? It sounds like on the den here Chad is not really tonguing much. I'm not sure what he is doing on the den here really. Yet.
@maxml415
@maxml415 3 жыл бұрын
This is pretty weird and reductionist tbh. Articulation is something that many of the legends approached in personal ways. For example, clifford brown and freddie hubbard were both insanely swinging, but had very different articulation tendencies. I disagree with the one size fits all implication in this tutorial
