Hi Sean ! I am all mixed up about finding the proper scales, arpeggios, etc. for improvisation over chords and have spent hours trying to find it without any good result. Even though I will consider myself always as a piano/guitar beginner I want to improve my performance over jazz standards/ bossa n. songs. If you can, please, I am needing just a simple tool/guide to sart with, or at least your best advice. I am 63 and not lazy at all. Thanks so much for your kind attention and patience.

I have a song that goes from f to a then to c to d… it’s only four chords and everything is a root and fifth power chord. I play the bass. So I am looking for ways to make the song feel like it’s moving forward and seeing what other notes I can progress the song with. I am wondering how I find out a key to the song with only Four notes. And if the first note I start on is f in this particular part of the song is the key of this part f? I have looked at the notes of the rest of the song and they are all natural notes. Except for the bridge which has a C sharp. I have looked up the key of a major and a minor also because the lowest note and the first note we use at the beggining of the song is A. And I find all natural Notes in the key of a minor. But then we have the C sharp in the bridge and I know that could almost be a a minor scale. But since the part of the song has a C sharp also has a f natural it couldn’t be a minor… so is the C sharp in the song just a borrowed chord? Or an accidental? This is the song here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZ2Ji8ql2ruWk2Q.htmlsi=l7TuU63r9CMkU_-g We changed the tuning of the guitar and remade a song that we like… anyone that understands theory let me know cause I’m Trying to spice up the bass line on a few parts. I guess I should just follow victor Wooten advice and if it sounds good do it and hope I don’t need the theory. The theory is in the tool box in the trunk of the car and we hope the car doesn’t break down

Not sure if you figured it out in the past year, so just in case you didn't, just add the C# in the bass, to the same chord you mentioned, and it'll make it a six chord... the sixth of E Major. In short he hit the bass note and then the E voicing you mentioned separately; if he had hit them at the same time the program would have generated a C# minor 9 (13) chord which would be the sixth of E Major.
