Tools OF the Trade Vol 2 How you measure the length of a golf club? With a Ruler of course. A Golf Mechanix ruler to be precise. Golf Mechanix sent an auditor ruler for review. See how it fairs against my old trusty unit.

Videos like this were a huge help a few years ago getting into building/rebuilding my own clubs. Now it is like second nature. Thanks for making content like this!

Thanks Jim could you do a video showing the different ways of measuring a golf club and how Manufactures arrive at a 7 Iron being 37 inch as I have a 48 inch ruler and cant seem to get it right?

Great videos by the way. 1 question, may seem dumb or obvious, but I am 6’4 and I’m about to start making my own clubs due to standards are way too short and not only having an effect on my game but also my back, as I’m retired now and not as young as I once was. When measuring a shaft for my specific measurements, prior to trimming the butt, am I measuring the shaft from tip to butt, or sliding the head on and measuring sole to butt? Thank you.

Is it ok to use fast setting epoxy for glueing iron headsand Ferrell's onto shafts? I still have some 2 part epoxy left over, from extending shaft lengths, from golfworks to use up. I know you like to mix it all up for the set and check whats left over the next day. I have the duel sqeeze tubes and it costs more than the seperate bottles and I use all of it. More worried about lasting adhesion and only doing a PW head for now. I know it off topic but bringing it up for good measure.

Awesome content. I really enjoy how you explain your new gadgets and show your examples of practical use. Awesome. Question: Do you get to use a caddy for your PAT? Cheers

I’ve learned that OEMs don’t all measure the same over time. Titleist and Taylormade measure through the hosel to the ground plane. It results in a 1/4 longer measurement compared to Mizuno. Have you experienced this?

The Auditor Ruler was designed by a clubmaker friend of Mine Victor and I made few for accumade before they folded. Victor moved and the ruler stayed. Good designs never perish!

Great stuff again Jim! Question: you mentioned on a live chat recently that got me thinking. Hot and cold weather can compromise epoxy. Is this something that should be considered when clubs shipped in winter; For example if you order a driver?
@McGolf3 жыл бұрын
Although it may be in transit for a few days. Unless completely extreme I would say no. Temps apply for the storage of thre epoxy and for the completed clubs, In garage, in trunks, can be a source of clubs coming loose

I have a question. I see everyone uses the 60' at the bottom. But some start the measurement form the middle of hosle vs on your one straight from the lying position. Yours seem the correct way. Why do others go from the middel hosle. They lose 0.20 because of that

Have you used the Mitchell or Maltby bench top rulers? If so, any thoughts on one over the other? Thanks in advance!
@McGolf2 жыл бұрын
Yes I have, I worked with both. The mitchell is probably the most compliant with USGA measuring but the GW is more for actual playing length
@larryoppenhiuzen55553 жыл бұрын
How accurate are the loft/lie measurements when using the included gauge? Thanks
@McGolf3 жыл бұрын
I typically dont use it that way but when compared to the mitchell unit and a club gauge the rule is very close if not dead on
