Hi, thanks for the appreciation. There are some people who give a cubit feet costing as well but that is not the norm. 2D is taken with depth as standard. For most areas including kitchen and wardrobe, this standard is 2 feet.

While different people deal with this differently, I agree that the empty space should not be calculated. We usually calculate the boxing (opened or closed) separately, panelling separately and ledges in running feet separately. Walls are left out and not calculated.

If its a simple table with 4 legs, usually people charge either lumpsum or look at the table in the same way as any wardrobe and charge an sft rate.

Hi SR, If the one of the sides is less than 1 feet then measurement is in running feet. If 1 or more then its square feet.

@@simplyinteriors thank you so much for reply, we made some panel work in our house e.g. in bedroom on top of bed we made 116 inch length and around 8 inch border work . As per running feet calculation it should be 116+8=124 /144= 0.86 * 350 (rate of square feet work in pune city) this will give total amount around 350 rs need to pay but our carpenter calculated this in square feet like 116*8=928/144=6.44*350 ( amount as per him is making charges of that panel) around 2200 rs.

Running feet does not include two dimensions. Only one. Ideally, it should be 116/12 *350 = 3383. You have added hence that is surely wrong. The carpenter is new and hence calculating wrongly and the price is coming lesser. You can either teach him or pay him the lesser amount which he is asking for...he will learn eventually. ;-)

Also, is this 350 labor rate? It cannot be rate with material. If it is with material then kindly check the material quality. If that is also good, please connect us with the carpenter :-)

3'7" rounded to 4' should not be done. 3'11" rounded to 4' is still ok. A 5" difference across the height of a wardrobe of 7' will be a sft different of almost 3.5 sft which could be more than Rs.4000 extra for you due to "rounding off".

We dont calculate tables in sft basis. Its normally a fixed price based on size, material and design.

No. Depth does not have an impact on sqft rates except in case its more than 24".

Depends on if its part of a bigger project or just a single cabinet but for decent quality material, it should be between 1200 and 1600 per sft.

No sir. Depth is standard in usual cases. e.g. wardrobe depth is usually kept at 22" to 23" along with shutters. If the depth is too unnatural (lets say 26") then automatically wood required is higher and we then take a different rate. Otherwise, considering depth makes calculations too complicated for the customer to understand.

Hi Saurabh, by paneling do you mean shutters? We take measurement from corner of box to corner of box and not just shutters. Hope that answers the query.

The sides are taken normally. Some people measure from the walls. Other people measure the corner once. It depends since usually the rates may have been adjusted accordingly as well.

Your contractor can tell you. It depends on internal layouts as well as the walls.

Actually it's hard to tell without visit site,ex:if u have done civil works shelves then only pannel framing have to done ,for this type of work u have to buy 2 plywood with 19mm thickness

In that case your measurements will be in cubit feet. Wardrobe is usually 2' deep so take all rates and divide by 2. Doesn't make any difference but becomes difficult to explain and understand for the customer
