New, these engines had much tighter tolerances than the typical US engine. The clearances you found were huge, UNTIL you remember that they were in 1,000ths of a MM which is roughly 40 thousandths of an inch, .050MM being roughly equal to .002"

Ive always heard the torque plate makes a huge difference when checking this. I was skeptical until i used one on a VG block last week!

When you get to the pistons and rods, please nerd out on setting ring gap! Also, will you be balancing the crank with the clutch and flywheel assembly?

G'day Mate, the rotating assembly was supposedly balanced on the previous build, providing I don't rearrange the pistons & rods it should be okay. But.... due to everything being a bit shit i'll probably re-do it. Cheers.

That was pretty good explanation. Did you determine that the wear matched the claimed kilometers since the last rebuild? This is going to be one hot little machine.

Hi Ben, yeah, pretty close i'd say. Hard to know for sure as a lot depends on how well it was put together. Cylinders were a bit inconsistent but probably due to some average machine work. Can't complain to much. Cheers Mate.

Btw, i am running 87.5 wisco pistons like you. And my power goals are like your as well. How much piston to wall clearance should it be, all things concidered?

Check out the "Wiseco Piston to Wall Clearance Guidelines" on the Wiseco website. Can't go wrong. Cheers Mate.

.0025" is recommended from wiesco. I personally am running .0030"

@@adamkleinschmidt3041 Nice, have you looked at Wiseco's recommended clearance's for that boost level? Low Boost (up to 15psi) they specify an additional .0005 (.0030 total). Mid Boost (15-30psi) .001, & High Boost (30psi+) an additional .001 - .002, so a total of .00356 to .00456. Worst thing you can do is be to tight, food for thought. Hows your cracked head going?
