Drum Recording Concept
🥁Proximity Effects
The Proximity Effect is when low-frequency response increases when a sound source is close to a directional or cardioid microphone due to microphone design causing resonance in the low-frequency range.

🥁Stereo
Stereo is an audio recording and playback technique that uses two channels, left and right, to simulate the sound field in the real world.

🥁Phasing
Audio phase refers to the phase relationship in sound waves, which is the time relationship between the waveforms of different frequencies in the sound. When two sound waveforms have the same phase relationship, they will meet at the correct time and position, producing a powerful sound. However, when their phase relationship is opposite, they will cancel each other out, producing a disappearing effect.
To solve these problems, audio engineers usually use tools such as phase correctors or phase inverters to adjust the phase relationship between different sound signals to achieve better audio effects and sound spatial perception.

🥁Microphone selection
Dynamic Microphone:
The dynamic microphone is one of the most common types of microphones. It works on the principle of electromagnetic induction and is suitable for high-volume live performances. It is known for its durability and low noise.
Condenser Microphone:
The condenser microphone is a high-quality microphone that uses the principle of capacitance. It has high sensitivity and can capture richer audio details, making it suitable for recording and live performances.
Ribbon Microphone:
The ribbon microphone is a traditional type of microphone that uses the principle of magnetic induction. It can capture rich harmonious audio and provides a natural representation of sound details.
🥁ORTF
ORTF is a stereo recording technique invented by French Broadcasting and Television Company.
Two cardioid microphones are used with equal distance and angle, placed on a horizontal beam with a vertical spacing of 17cm and a horizontal angle of 55 degrees, with the reference line being the position of the earlobe.
This simulates natural hearing.
The signals from both microphones are encoded and combined to produce a natural-sounding stereo effect.
🥁Glyn Johns Technique
Glyn Johns is a renowned British music producer and recording engineer, known for his vast experience and skills in the music industry. He has worked with many famous musicians and bands such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, and Led Zeppelin, among others.
Johns' recording technique usually involves three microphones: one for drums, one for bass, and one for high-end. These three microphones are typically placed in the center of the recording studio, forming a triangle. By adjusting the microphone positions and distances, the recording engineer can capture various sounds and instruments while maintaining the natural and balanced sound of the music.
