In this video I show how easy it is to weld thick to thin sheet metal with a few tips. This was a requested video from some of my subscribers. That demo was actually very helpful. I’ve tried this in the past with very little success. I eventually just gave up and used a ‘fill in the hole’ spot weld technique. Thanks for the tutorial. Much appreciated!

Just exactly what I was looking for. I am patching 22 gauge with 18 gauge, this will help a bunch.

How much weld penetration for the thicker metal on the lap joint?

This is kinda tricky because your limited to the thickness of the thinner piece, kinda like the weakest link theory .so as long as you got 100% pen on your thin piece thats as good as your gonna get. Hope this helps!!!

@@ACDesignsGarage Thank you for the reply. I am practicing plug welding with 18 gauge and 12 gauge metal for a fender restoration project on a 55 GMC 630A truck. I finally found my settings and I can't get the two metal practice pieces of the same gauges to break apart.
