Ive been away from my workshop for over a year and now getting back to making my wood resin jewelry. After a making a complete mess of everything yesterday I came to this video for a helpful reminder of how to do things properly. Thanks for the video

Nice video, really important tips that are essential when you want to create top results! Tips from my experience that I'd like to point out too are ways to avoid excessive waste of cups and stir sticks by using silicone measuring cups and spatulas. In these you can just let the leftovers cure in the cup and easily peel them off afterwards. The flexibility of the spatula also really helps to ensure you get it all perfectly mixed! I switched to silicone after I once "ruined" a nice piece, I discovered a tiny wood splinter from the mixing stick that had broken off and got enclosed for eternity. Very annoying!

This is great, thank you! Could you expand on why you recommend adding the color after you mix? I've only worked with polyurethane, but I like to do it before because once I mix the parts I'm on the clock and it helps me see that everything is well blended together. Btw, love your Amazing Resin. Occasionally I wish it cured slightly slower depending on the project, but it is great.

We have a longer open time with epoxy, so mixing A and B together first you can confirm that's been well combined, there are no swirls, etc. Then, adding the color ensures everything is well mixed so you'll get the best and strongest cure!

Im new to making with resin my first makes went well but since adding colors some are setting up others aint even when from same mix whats best time length to mix together first and when adding color how long should mix again for.

removing bubbles in small castings: pour into mold down a small diameter wood dowel sticking into the final pour . The bubbles float to the surface on the dowel and remain on the surface of the pour.

Would using a silicone spatula help to reduce bubbles? I’ve read that a wood stir stick might create more bubbles since wood is porous.

Hi, Thank you for tips. I have a question, once you have mixed the color in, how long is the shelf life of the epoxy resin mixture and color?

Great question! You shouldn't mix in your color until you are ready to make your project! You can add it to side A or side B first and then mix them together or mix the sides first and then add the color - either way, all of our products have a shelf life of a year, unmixed. Once mixed, you have until the end of the open time to use the epoxy - once you've reached the end of the open time, the mixture will begin to cure! So for example, Amazing Clear Cast epoxy has an open time of 30 to 40 minutes - this includes mixing, adding colors and inclusions, and pouring!

Well explained! But I wanna ask, can I use epoxy resin for making custom keycaps? Or which type of resin to make custom keycaps? Sorry I am newbie to resins..

you have to mix part A and part B together before adding any colorant otherwise it will effect your resin cure

Yes, you can add thinner after you mix part A and part B but you want to make sure not to add more than 5% of the original amount or it might have trouble curing!

Hi Alumilite. I have a project which is a games table made from veneered plywood, which I am going to apply a layer of ACC to. However, I need to know how much to purchase, and cannot find info on volumes for a flat table top poor. If I have a table top which is 27 inches by 48 inches and a 1 inch side to drip over, how much ACC do I need?

Hi very nice elaborated presentation. I have a few questions. When does epoxy start permeating fume and when does it stop ? How do I clean my measuring cups ? I prepare my epoxy in my garage with door open and a fan working behind me , am I safe ? Or I still need some kind of a mask ? I appreciate your input.

Epoxy resin typically starts emitting fumes as soon as it's mixed with the hardener. The emission of fumes can continue for several hours, gradually decreasing over time as the epoxy cures. However, the duration and intensity of fumes can vary depending on factors such as temperature, ventilation, and the specific type of epoxy used. To clean measuring cups used for epoxy, it's important to do so promptly after use to prevent the resin from hardening. Use paper towels to wipe out as much resin as possible from the cups. We have a brand new Amazing Resin Remover that will make that very simple. Then, you can wash the cups with warm, soapy water, using a scrub brush or sponge to remove any remaining epoxy. While having the garage door open and using a fan for ventilation is a good practice to reduce exposure to epoxy fumes, it's still recommended to wear a mask or respirator rated for organic vapors as an additional precaution, especially if you're working with epoxy for extended periods or in a confined space. Masks can help filter out harmful vapors and minimize inhalation risks. Hope that helps!

Wow, thank you! Now I know why I've had a few Ooops here and there. Lol. Live and learn. I do want to add that I have tried Gallery Glass in my Epoxy Resin with great results. I have mixed the Epoxy until there are no swirls, so, does Aluminite stay cloudy even though you have no swirls and few bubbles? Sometimes I have to mix beyond 6 minutes. When I use Art and Glow, the mix is crystal clear, so the cloudiness in Aluminite has made me feel as if I had to continue to mix it. Got spoiled with the crystal clear, I guess. I have to admit that I love your product. I started with the small ounces and now I'm into the gallons.

The "cloudiness" is most likely micro-bubbles created during mixing. After pouring, go over the surface with a heat gun or torch - the rest should make their way to the top and release before curing fully!

Great question! All epoxy yellows overtime no matter the brand but we've formulated our products to last as long as possible under UV lights! A lot of lure makers like to use Alumi-UV to coat their lures for a durable and shiny finish!

How to measure if my resin & hardener with 3:1 ? 750gram (resin) & 250gram (hardener). No idea on how to measure and pour correctly. As my silicon mould is big. (L 18cm x W 25cm)

Hi Kiranyaa! Does your resin need to be measured 3:1 by weight or by volume? If by weight, you'll need a small scale. If by volume, a container with measure marks will be helpful. If you need to learn how much resin you need, fill your mold with rice and pour that rice into a measured cup. That's how much resin you'll need to fill it.

OK tried earlier, on later video. I’ve been getting a film and a bunch of tiny spots/bubbles using the CC surface epoxy. Have been told that my pours are more than 1/8” and should use CC+ from r 3/8 - 1/2” deep pours. That correct? Will see if can send you pictures of these troubling results. What can I do to avoid the finished piece having a bluish cast? I can’t get it clear, but it isn’t bubbly- it’s more of a cloudy bluish

You say the mixture is by volume. But personally I would rather rely on a precision scale based on weight. Can I assume your products define the mixture ratio also by weight, maybe something like 100:84 ?

Some of our products can be measured by either weight or volume but our epoxies are strictly by volume. Because the two sides are vastly different in weight the ratio isn't very friendly and so not defined in our data sheets or website.

Hi there! It may be due to air being added while mixing, or your product being too chilled. Try warming your closed bottles in a warm water bath before you mix and see if that helps clear it up!
