PS. I accidentally uploaded (and deleted) the wrong version of the video before uploading the proper one, if you see a double notification, that's the reason why!

I'm very thankful for your videos. I've been composing for over 20 years but have only been using a DAW on and off for about 5 years. The wet dry reverb was the answer to my issues.

Excellent tutorial Alex! I spend a lot of time automating the mixer faders and always find myself running out of headroom. It never occured to me to put stereo enhancers on the mixer strips! A great yet simple tip! Thanks buddy! :)

Hey Alex! Something I am a bit confused about... So I follow this: - you route individual instruments to a BUS for each section -You route the BUS to a wet reverb channel to keep the reverb signal and dry signal separate Here's where I'm confused: -Why have the BUS for the section and then also route that section to an individual dry signal channel? Isn't that redundant since the BUS in itself is already serving as the dry signal? Thanks so much, your tutorials are fantastic! EDIT: WAIT, I think I understand - you're routing the individual section BUSses (Strings, Brass) to an overall "Orchestra Dry track" then the percussions BUSses go to their own unified dry and wet channels, then all of these go to a dry and wet for the full arrangements - got it!

I am composing music since i was 10 yrs old. (40 today). I've been TRYING to mix orchestral music since.... 2001. BUT i have NEVER (BUT N E V E R!!!!!) managed to mix a song and finally make it sound GOOD (NOT perfect, NOT professional, just GOOOOODDDDDDD). I have left behind many many many songs because of my inabillity to MIX. It is sooooo disappointing that some times it makes me feel like an idiot unable to learn. It is really freaking frustrating. I just CANT achieve this natural result i am looking for no matter what i do. Anyway, you are doing a great job Alex.

Thanks, Alex! I feel like all this time takes away from composing too much for me. I have an idea in my head, I really don't want to be focussing too long on routing and creating buses and figuring out all this stuff, it drives me mad. But I guess that's what a template is for. I've tried numerous times to make a template, but a number of instruments loaded causes problems in playback, even if I use the macro to turn off all plugins.
@AlexMoukala
@AlexMoukala 7 жыл бұрын
Hmm, that's a huge bummer. Templates help me reduce an insane amount of time when writing orchestral music. But if you can't set one up, don't look at mixing and routing at all while you're writing the arrangement, deal with that stuff only when you have completed arranging the track and you need to proceed to mixing and mastering it.

Hey Alex i would really love to thank you for your superb tutorials. Now i have an question regarding midi controller. I just can't automate/link my midi controller (Moodwheel, expression and dynamics) to Kontakt libraries. And i have watched a lot of tutorials on youtube. Is it maybe bcs there is no 64bit update for my controller which is CME UF5

Hi Alex what is the title of this song (your song) and how to get more than 16 "midi out" in FL studio 12 with kontakt plz ? Thx
@AlexMoukala
@AlexMoukala 5 жыл бұрын
It's "Hellfire" from Final Fantasy XV, composed by Yoshitaza Suzuki. As for the 16 MIDI Outs, I actually haven't figured out a way to do that yet as I never needed to go as far. (I usually use a kontakt instance for every instrument family and will split it if it gets too big). Surely you might find some infos on google though!

Pretty good video, a tad basic perhaps. One tip: You don't need to press right click > reset every time, you can click with the scroll wheel to do the same if your mouse allows it.

Hi Alex, i made the same question in another video, but i think you do not have time to keep track of all the comments, i try to ask you again, let's say i want to control a single instrument wet channel (example: reduce the reverb in the viola section and not all string section) how can this be achieved? i can route every section directly to the wet orchestra signal or there is a way to do it with the practicality of having one channel for all the strings..? Sorry if this is kinda confusing, i struggle a little between Italian and English :D Cheers, and thank you again for your awesome tutorials
@AlexMoukala

You're in luck, I am italian, so I'll answer in that language.
@j.crivelli7906
@j.crivelli7906 7 жыл бұрын

My mixes sound like they coming from a well, its not clear sounding. How do I go around this problem?
@AlexMoukala
@AlexMoukala 7 жыл бұрын
It depends. Do they sound like that only after you mix them? Or do your arrangements natively sound very bad even before you mix them? If it's the second case, you have to learn how to arrange rather than how to mix.
@peterciprian6167
@peterciprian6167 7 жыл бұрын
I dont think its the arrangement. Usually I leave one main instrument, and the rest is just back filling, panned and lowered volume, but still it sounds bad..

I think you over complicated a bit everything for your reverb dry and wet channel. You can just use the defaut send effects in fl and it does the same thing. But at the end of the day, if your track sounds good, and if it works fine for you, who cares ? :)
@Hardplanerz

And,k in your wet signal, you also have a bit of the dry signal of your instruments coming through, so if you increase the volume of it, you also increase the volume of your instruments

It would be more easier to understand if you had included here on how did you come up with different master tract or how did you make multiple master track and multiple mixer tract on right dock since FL Studio has its only 1 master tract by default and four mixer tract on the right dock and multiple mixer tract on the left dock by default, then routing, and those knob function and stuff. And I am sorry for being too much importunate and keep commenting in your videos, it is simply because I am learning, let us say Teacher (You) - Student (Me and others), also we come up with one dialect which is English (no matter whether you are a Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Indian and so on, the common denominator in speaking language is English), but we are not that good in English, right?, because it will vary on listening, speaking and the accent of the person who is talking. Honestly, sometimes I do rely on seeing, if I can't understand what is the Teacher is talking about (referring to speaking and accent) and that is the reason why I ask three example from your Tutorial (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m9GCmLyfvqeZkWQ.html).

Check the FL Studio manual on the Mixer's page and that will be answered fair and simple, and with no accents. :D

But compressors are meant to compress sound which is not really what orchestral music needs. Maybe in the mastering process one could compress but then very lightly for orchestral music has a lot of dynamic by itself. In electronic music amongst most other genre compressors are used to squish the sound but even though I'm intro electronic music I'm mostly against this compress the sound to make it sound louder or more powerful (and be a gentle sheep following the trends). If you compare the dynamic on the first Oxygène album by Jean-Michel Jarre from 1976 for instance and the latest one from december 2016 you just see the sound engineer should not be the same. I just don't get much why we should surrender to this compress sound like butchers. OK it sounds louder and ruins your ears along with the sound but I really prefer a dynamic mixing in electro instead. Not much people like it ? I don't give a sh*t. It's my hobby and I do it for myself prior to anything.
