As a artist and mixing engineer, i applied this plugin and it did almost exactly what i usually do, with less flavor and generally sounding cheap . You can`t replace good technique and vintage gear or plugins, but for a beginner, it`s like a mixing course, it could help you understand what to do to achieve a decent vocal sound, so kudos for that .

Bigricky06 realistically you can use all of the information you learn from how to use these plug ins in these videos and apply them to your preferred genre. These are not end all be all rules that can’t be broken, every record and every artist is different and every session will be different that’s where you as a producer come in and use your EAR and the knowledge you know of how to use these plug ins and apply it to your own project. These are more or less guides on how to use the software it’s not how to specifically record ONLY rap vocals you know?

Unique Records I’m with you brother. Did without ozone for decade plus, mostly due to cost. Refused to let in to the temptation, thought it would be better to use other plugins piecemeal. But now I have almost all their stuff and it’s all great. Really wish I could go back in time and talk myself out of waves Mercury and into this earlier. Some people hate on it but the stuff just works well. Interfaces are just about perfect too. Not too bland but not trying to look like physical gear like so many modeling plugins, with good controls and visual indicators.
@alexsavastru8125
@alexsavastru8125 5 жыл бұрын
@@boothbuster it's maybe my untrained ears but, if you could clear this up for me, i'd really appreciate it. Nectar 3 sounds awesome in theory but, in this very video, i hear a little bit of a raspy tone, maybe harsh even, in the vocal. Is it the saturation or is a OVO Sound/Drake level of mixing just impossible outside of Toronto? I want some clean ass vocals because i already know how to mix my beats. It'd be an awesome Christmas present if you were to actually reply with good info. Happy holidays!
@boothbuster
@boothbuster 5 жыл бұрын
@@alexsavastru8125If by "raspy", you mean the nasal tones - that could be accentuated by how they brought up the high mids and above with the second EQ. (also the performer can change if they sound raspy or not based to some degree - just changing posture, where the tongue is in the mouth, puffing up cheeks or pouting them, smiling, etc., all affect that sort of voice character) Overall though, it depends on the whole recording setup. You want clean vocals, you say - that could mean different things. But if you want less nasal sounds/raspiness, try aiming the microphone down at the rapper; if you have it below them aiming up, then you get more of the nasal sounds; aiming down, more of the chest sounds. (or aim it straight back, but then you need a good pop filter for sure) Also, the preamp can affect it; tube preamp will definitely add a bit of distorted character, solid state will definitely sound "cleaner" (I use Focusrite ISA - it's my first real preamp, and I like the adjustability of the impedance, which also affects how a microphone "sounds" - never felt the desire to get a tube preamp.) If you mean you want more of a radio DJ type of voice, use a dynamic mic for sure (similar to SM57 or SM58) - but if you mean clean like hearing the whole voice evenly, then a good condenser mic is nice. (I like using a large diaphragm condenser mic usually.) Choice of mic and preamp all depends on the person you're recording though. And in the end, just a bit of EQing can really make a vocal sound different, and "cleaner". If you accentuate anywhere from 500-2khz, depending on the voice, it will sound more present, for sure. Hope one of these ideas helps, Merry Christmas! :)
@boothbuster
@boothbuster 5 жыл бұрын
@@MrGodpk3 Well sure recording technique always matters, of course. And using the right mic and pre-amp. I disagree on Ozone though, it's phenomenal. I have all waves plugins, and while their multi maximizers are good, none can get things as loud as Ozone can while staying very, very clean. I've also had work done by pro mastering houses in Europe with $100k+ of analog gear, and to be honest, it sounds the same to me. Modern music is all about the mix, mastering isn't doing as much in all-electronic music as it used to for all-recorded music, in my humble opinion. Don't forget, Nectar has the automatic level rider to help prepare for the compressor stage. Not sure how it works though, haven't tried that feature yet. (Waves VocalRider never worked too well for me.) Or the old trick is to use two compressors, so that each one doesn't have to do as much work. :) I definitely agree with you on maintaining a rugged quality. On their other videos I even commented that I thought the original demo track had a unique quality that got lost. All depends on the project I guess. If it's for straight up hourly rate, get it done fast, the client will smile when it sounds polished like this can do; if it's my own artist, sure, I am going to spend a heck of a lot (way more, lol) time than I would otherwise, trying to keep a unique sound signature.
