How To Modify Your Flashlight Driver For Extra Power- The Sense Resistor Mod- 100% Power Gain

Hey folks in this video we modify a Convoy driver for extra power, we also look at the different option that you can use to modify a Convoy flashlight driver. Generally you can bridge the Convoy flashlight driver or stack another resistor on top to gain extra power.
You can use many different Convoy flashlight/torch drivers to gain extra power simply modify the sense resistor to find your perfect output. This mod can be also be done to regulate the output if you need to limit current with certain LEDs.

Thanks for this information Just did it on my C8+ SFT40, unfortunately i didn't have the correct value SND resistor so i ended up just bridgeing it, similar results as you ~ 15a output which means 45w the driver in its original form is 6a or 18w I hope i don't hurt the LED, it is only rated at a maximum of 8a or 24W Should be fun to see what it can do now tho.

the darker drivers and the black and white graph pattern confuses the camers auto focus, where as the bright red driver sontrasts against the back ground giving a easily defined object for the auto focus.

Have you done the 6v 5a driver yet? I have a few of them for xhp70.3 and sft70 and I am looking to see what others have done. I think I am going to try to bridge the R010 resistor with some solder. Any thoughts? I won’t be bothered if I hurt a driver or emitter, they are cheap enough to have some fun with.

Hey, its not that simple on a boost driver as you need the other components to be able to support the higher current more so than a Fet driver. I did try it on one of the 20mm Convoy drivers but it didn't work i tried to double the current so that was probably way to much current/wattage for the driver. If you can be bothered to to slowly increasing current by decrease the sense resistance one by one it may work. I find the coil usually fails as they get to hot, Simon (Convoy) has higher power driver for sale now.

@@everydaysurvivalgear ok thank you, you saved me a driver and/or emitter. I don’t know why I initially thought this video was about the 6v driver until I noticed a different value resistor. I’ll just wait for Simons new driver, I still don’t see it available in his store but I know it can take a bit to show for everyone or maybe it’s just by region. I thought about using his 22mm 6v 8a driver that requires two cells with 2x 18350 batteries but it seems a bit pointless to have the extra power with two batteries that small.

@@lumntoob999If you don't mind using two cells in a series config and you can solder, maybe you can try a zener diode mod. It use to be a common mod and the driver of choice was the BLF A6 driver it turns it into a 6v Fet driver. It should work with the Convoy drivers but i have not tried. I might give it a go and see if it works.

@@everydaysurvivalgear I can solder really well but I am still learning, slowly, about components and circuits. From a quick look up I don’t think I’d be capable of figuring out that mod without some better explaining or some form of tutorial. I’m going to look into it more but mainly just because I think it’s interesting.

Hey mate, I have not tried to do these mods on these drivers, they might have an issue with heat issue being a buck driver.

Hey mate, the sense resistor is just a normal surface mount resistor. The sizes and values needed depend on what size board you want to modify, plus the amount of current you want

Hey mate it would depend on what current you want if you add any resistor that is close to the value of the resistor on the driver that will increase the current. Say your driver is using a R020 if you add another R025 on top that will increase the current level.

@@sigitsukmawan9849 what driver are you using? When I done the red convoy driver the 2 lowest modes stayed the same with mod but the 3 higher modes increased?

@@everydaysurvivalgear Mine is 4 mode 5A (green color). Measured with cheap multimeter. Use SST20 emitter. NCR18650BD battery. My result before and after mod as follows: 0.1 % cant read current. 3 %, 0.16A before, 0.32A after mod. 30% 1.6A before, 3.2 after mod. 100% 3.4 before, 4.6 after mod. I think limiting factor at 100% caused by non-high drain battery and or emitter power rate. Anyway, hard to see light output difference at 100% mode, maybe need to swap with another higher emitter or better battery
