How do you prevent mouth guard gag? Because every time something goes into my mouth a lil bit far if it’s not food then I’ll gag
@evolutionJKD
@evolutionJKD Жыл бұрын
That's a difficult problem and one a lot of people have. There are some thinner ones. A lot of hockey mouth guards are thinner. You can also trim excess material from the ends of your mouth guard, so that it doesn't activate your gag reflex. Be sure you keep the material between your teeth!! There should be coverage for the entire bite area. It may take some searching and experimenting with a few different brands and/or types of mouth guards. And you might botch a few and need to toss it and start a new one. When you get a mouth guard that fits just right, it's great!! You can always go to your dentist for a custom fit mouth guard.

How much is the charge of geting a custom mouth guard
@evolutionJKD
@evolutionJKD Жыл бұрын
That's really going to depend on your dentist. There is the molding process and the materials. Could be a few hundred $$. For minor sparring with normal teeth, it's likely not necessary if you are confident with the one you did at home. Again, you're looking to protect your teeth from chipping. If you have any dental issues, or you don't feel confident with doing it at home, you should absolutely consult your dentist. I mean, you'd pay solid money for a good set of gloves or a gi, so why wouldn't you invest in something that would protect your teeth?

Custom mouth guards can start at $60 and up depending on who is making them, mouth piece guy makes solid mouth pieces, I believe they at start at $89, LGK does some too but I think they are only local In Los Angeles I’m not too sure but they charge $60 plus tax I have both and both are solid, lgk price you definitely can’t beat especially the quality is a1.

@evolutionJKD
@evolutionJKD Жыл бұрын
Likely, it will help. Be careful to not trim too much, as that could expose the teeth to getting chipped. Every mouth guard is going to be different. If you’re new to wearing one, it will take a while to become accustomed to it. And as always, you can go to your dentist for a professional fitting.

Do you still have to see if it fits before you boil it if it’s a flavored one like kool aid
@evolutionJKD
@evolutionJKD 19 күн бұрын
Some of my students have used the flavored ones. Directions should be the same, but be sure to read them for your specific mouthguard. I like to put it in before softening it just to get an idea of how much I can let it shrink. You can go too far! I'd suggest doing it a few times to get the best fit.

@evolutionJKD
@evolutionJKD 22 күн бұрын
You can find them in the athletic section of most box stores like Walmart or Target. A sports store will definitely have them. Ask an employee. Shouldn’t be that expensive. If you’re going to spend big money, you might as well go to your dentist.

Always read the instructions. Some are boil the water, and some are just hot but not boiling water. Some are t meant to be moulded at all. So, make sure you read the package carefully before you buy it!

@evolutionJKD Жыл бұрын
Great! If you have someone knowledgeable that can help you, that's fantastic! I always just watch the mouth guard. Look for it to get a bit soft and test it out. You can always drop it back in the water for longer, but if you leave it too long then it can ruin the mouth guard. Water temp and material are always important. Read those instructions. There are some mouth guards that specifically state that the water should NOT be boiling. Keep those teeth safe and enjoy your training!!

You should be able to just remold it by doing the process over again. But if it keeps you from having chipped teeth and you aren't gagging on it, then it should be OK.

i really need help I've bought 4 mouthguards and ruined them all. I mold it pretty good and it fits the first time but the second time I try to put it on its ALWAYS too big and keeps falling out. I've missed alot of training sessions and can't spar and honestly plan on quitting b3cause of mouthguard issues unless I find a solution.
@evolutionJKD
@evolutionJKD Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. Two recommendations: Talk to your instructor. If they are having you do sparring, then they should be able to help guide you through it. I’d suggest bringing in the ruined one. Your instructor should be able to tell you how to get it to fit. The second suggestion is to go to your dentist. They can mould one for you that will absolutely fit. It is more expensive, but wouldn’t you rather see them for the mouth guard than to fix a chipped tooth?

@evolutionJKD
@evolutionJKD 11 ай бұрын
First thing is to go back and read the instructions. I’ve goofed a few times and gotten a different product than intended. Next is to look at your actual boil time and the cool off time. You need to have it in there long enough to soften. Then cool it enough to not burn yourself, but have it still soft enough to mold. It can take a few times to get it figured out. Let me know how it goes!

@evolutionJKD
@evolutionJKD Жыл бұрын
I would recommend that you have it between all of your teeth. The primary focus of this is to avoid chipped teeth. Secondary is to avoid getting knocked out. $10 and a bit of effort to mold a new one is way better than fixing a chipped tooth! I’m not a dentist, and I always suggest that you confer with your dentist. You can always mold it, and then take it in with you during your next visit.

All my mouthguards feel too big and are a little too much out and referees say to keep it in my mouth in my fights, but I can't. And they are hard to breathe with, and if I buy smaller size they are good but are too short to protect the back of my teeth
@evolutionJKD
@evolutionJKD 9 ай бұрын
I’d really suggest seeing your dentist and getting one made for you. Yes, they are more expensive, but it’s part of your equipment. If you’re already competing, you’re going to want a good mouth guard! It’s way cheaper to pay the dentist for the mouth guard than to fix a tooth!!! They can also help make adjustments to it for a better fit. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

It is supposed to “melt” a bit. But it’s better to do it not quite enough. You can always put it back in the hot water. And another reason why I recommend getting two. It’s a process and one where you can mess up. Try using a lower heat level. Think yea boiling instead of pasta boiling.

Have you shown it to your instructor or some of the senior students at your school.? Show them yours and see what they say. Like our training, sometimes it takes a few times to get it figured out. You'd ask your instructor/coach or a more senior student for help with a technique, so ask about this too. If all else fails, take it to your dentist. They are profesionals and will help you.

If you're doing sparring or another contact sport with a mouthguard, your instructor or coach should have some knowledge about it. Check with them. If in doubt, go check with your dentist. YOU DON'T WANT A CHIPPED TOOTH!! Shake: From your channel, I'm guessing you're about 12 years old. My channel is for adults, and I would never recommend that a minor attempt this themselves. When done properly, this is NOT harmful to your teeth. Dentists will tell you the same. I've done it many times myself and this is how most athletes and martial artists mould their mouthguards. As adults or with adult supervision. If your parents aren't comfortable helping you with it, then they can always speak to your dentist about having one made for you. Those are better, but also more costly.
