So I've got the Zycle Fix Cobra Beach Cruiser and I was watching these videos I've learned one thing and that is just use a 26 on the back and save you the trouble of having to chop cut saw do whatever I still got a 30 in the front,❤

The reason I had to offset the engine on my bike was because the chain would not clear the fat 4 inch tire. I also had a coaster brake set up. So in order for the sprockets to line up my engine had to be offset. Since I was putting an engine in a bike that did not have a kit designed for it, I had to fabricate parts to make it work. Evidently a jackshaft kit setup was later manufactured and sold that could allow the engine to be installed in the usual way. On a 7 speed bike this would also allow for 7 speeds on the motor bike and disc brakes front and rear. However offsetting the engine and raising the top frame tube meant that the stock intake manifold cleared the frame just fine. If I raised the frame bar a little more it would accommodate the high performance cylinder head that can be installed on the 60cc engine too. Of course skinnier tires would have also alleviated some clearance issues as well but I like the fat ones better.

Thanks for the video, this was a burning question I had for a while, I knew that rear tire was gonna be an issue clearing the chain. Guess im gonna consider another bike, I dont have any welding equipment.

Try a friction drive motor. You can mount it on a rear rack and it doesnt require a chain

Keep in mind that you can purchase a jackshaft kit now which would solve the tire and chain clearance. Some frames have more clearance for the engine so you can install it without welding.

Chuck Bergland can you post a link of which one to use? I'm running into the same issue building mine. I was thinking about using a smaller tire

@@mcchillindaily4581 I wasn’t able to make it work by myself. I went on Craigslist and found a guy in the area that had a shop and built these types of bikes. I ended up buying a mountain bike with smaller tires with it all set up from him. I used that for a few years until it died and then I bought the electric version of this from Amazon. The electric one is pretty cool. It has a speedometer on it and I’ve put about 900 miles on it.

Im not sure I understand your question. To make the coaster brake line up under the frame where it belongs I had to heat the coaster brake arm with a torch in a vise. Then bend it deeper so it would line up centered under the frame. Maybe 1/2 inch deeper. This requires 2 new bends. It would be a good idea to put a front brake on too.

Yes, It is much easier to motorize a beach bike. There are bolt on kits for that with no fabrication needed. Fat tire bikes are more challenging.

BOSS QUIK ? WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THE COASTER BRAKE...PUTTING ANOTHER PIECE WHERE IT SITS ON THEN PUTTING COASTER BRAKE IF I CANT OFFSET IT..

Chuck I hoped you also got the jack shaft. I have the same issue with my 3g fat tire cruiser. I played out your entire build to compensate the lack of clearance but ended up using a smaller wheel for the time being. I was debating on whether to save for the jack shaft or go for the build. but your video instilled confidence. No botched work but I read that you are still having an issue so I want to know; IF YOU DID INSTALL A JACK SHAFT, Does it parallel to the former design. Thanks for the video.

Hi Ryan. Thanks for your comment. I never did use a jackshaft because they were not available when I built it. My bike is taken apart for painting at this time. However the jackshaft would be a significantly better arrangement if you can get one. It would also allow you to have disc brakes instead of the coaster brake which would be much safer.

Chuck Bergland to be honest check, I have ditched the coaster break and have found my my bike that I can still use the same motion to brake. Maybe is the backward motion providing resistance against the motor but I can’t make sense of it. If you have time I urge you to try it. It doesn’t indicate any sign to negatively impact omg the build but I don’t know anyone else using that method. But originally I took precautions and installed a clasping brake a lever and pads. But I doesn’t seem to be all that reliable. My other method is working extremely well.

Well, I have a Dolamite bike myself, and I'm currently installing a Flying Horse motor kit. I've only had two issues thus far, 1# the intake manifold doesn't allow for enough room to attach the carburetor, and 2# the sprocket doesn't fit my fat tire wheel hub. But they have a sprocket adapter for that issue, and they make longer offset intake manifolds for the other issue. So, I'll just buy both and avoid cutting and welding my bike ( which I'm ill equipped and don't have a shop to do that. I'm glad you were able to make yours work, but I think you did unnecessary things, as there were better options.

I simply bought a 7 speed Dolamite with disc brakes and a shifter kit from Sick Bike Parts, no frame or sprocket mods whatsoever, took about 4-5 hours and I went riding.

Hay I got a big question for you I’m trying to put a 2 stroke engine on my fat tire ebike but the spocket is close to the right side so it would be rubbing against the tire how would I do that ???
@chuckbergland6979
@chuckbergland6979 Жыл бұрын
Hey Zachary. The best way now is to use a jackshaft kit. When I built the motorized fat tire bike they were not available yet. So I offset the engine and used extra rags as well as heated up the frame with a torch and pounded the inside of the rear frame rail in to give me more clearance. I recommend using the jackshaft kit. It would be much better.

@HansV1973
@HansV1973 6 жыл бұрын
Oh and P.S. There's no reason to offset the engine as it does fit, you just have to get a different intake manifold. Well, you did say if anyone had a better way to let you know. And I think you had to heat up and spread the rear forks because you offset you're engine, just saying, if installed where they say to, you should be able to align it all just fine.
@ryandougherty9718
@ryandougherty9718 4 жыл бұрын
For optimal alignment you technically would have to. The rear sprocket runs the chain to close to the tire, whence the addition of metal places and rings. If his rear sprocket is offset by 1 1/2 inch than so would his engine. I’m not saying it won’t work the way you mentioned. But, it wouldn’t be compensated correctly meaning is half done, half asses, a botched job.

The engine does need to be offset, if the chain does not align straight between the two sprockets it will just walk off

Replace that rag joint pineapple sprocket thing before it destroys your rear wheel spokes I suggest a CNC Hub adapter mount sprocket for your motorized bicycle much better than this rubber thing your using
