It's been a year since I first used pex, I am installing a new hose bib for a customer and decided to look up a refresher. Very well done I must say, your presentation was great and left me with no questions. Thank you.

I like how you used the conduit to protect the PEX from UV damage. It's a very creative solution, I wouldn't have thought of doing that myself (typically I just transitional to metal pipe above ground). I don't like Sharkbites as I prefer soldering, but for a DIY homeowner, there is nothing wrong with using them in an exposed, easy-to-access location like what you did.

Thanks, appreciate the comment. After 5 copper pipe leaks in my house, I've really become a PEX fan, but use the crimp connectors most of the time. I guess we will find out in 30 years if PEX was a good choice.

@@BruBuilds PEX is a great material, but it cannot be exposed to sunlight. I prefer expansion PEX over crimp but both are good systems.

That was so awesome Bru!!!! (Nice Pex!) I actually WANTED to watch this all the way through, because (being serious here) the host did such a great job. The trench battle was a nice touch too. I'm subscribed!!!!

You can't reflow solder like that and just rotate the fitting. I'm not sure what's holding that bond for you but it needs to be re-cleaned with new flux and sweat again.

I’m no expert (just learning), but I’m wondering why you used PEX instead of black polyethylene tubing. As far as I know, I think PEX is better suited for indoor and poly is better suited for outdoor.
@BruBuilds
@BruBuilds 2 ай бұрын
I've used black poly tubing for drip irrigation but didn't think about using it for this project. I think PEX is stronger, and it's exactly the same size as 1/2" copper pipe, making it easy to convert from copper. Also, I already had the PEX and fittings. I do like the UV advantage of the Black poly pipe for outdoors.

I assume your in the southern U.S. states. Always interesting to see what you can get away with, when you don't have extreme temperature conditions. Not a suitable installation for northern states or in Canada. In Canada, water pipes must be buried at least 4 feet below grade (the frost line) and each fall the outdoor pipe would have to be evacuated with compressed air, or disconnected from the home's water supply and the line would be filled with antifreeze until late May.

Yes, we don’t have to worry about freezing here. Definitely makes outdoor plumbing easier to deal with.

Did you use 3/4 inch pvc conduit to fit the 1/2 inch pex? Great video. I'm thinking of doing same but didn't think of protecting the PEX from UV
@BruBuilds
@BruBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
It is 1" conduit. The bell end worked great to hold the foam piece as well.
