How to Move Furniture: How to Properly Wrap and Protect a Sofa or Couch for a move.
You will only need 3-4 pads per couch and 1 roll of plastic stretch wrap.
First place pads over the couch to ensure full coverage and no material is exposed.
Begin stretch wrapping the top side of the couch.
Flip the couch onto its backside, remove any feet if possible. This will protect the feet from any damage and allow for easy passage through any doorways or hallways.
Finally flip the couch onto its knees. Depending on the couch, you may need a partner to help stabilize the couch from falling over while you wrap it.

I'm a professional mover. 17 years experience. This is how you wrap an expensive couch that cannot get dirty or damaged. If it's just a cheap or old couch, nothing expensive, you dont need the blankets or that much shrinkwrap. Start at the bottom and as you go, PULL TIGHT and go around to the top. I make sure the entire couch is covered in a layer of shrinkwrap so whenever possible, I can put the couch on its side to save space and it's not getting dirty. I do lay a blanket down before I place the couch on its side, just to make sure. If it's raining, I use some extra wrap to make sure the couch cannot get wet. Again, the method of wrapping in this video is only for expensive couches or of course if the customers requests it. BTW, be careful with how much time you spend wrapping. Some customers, if they are paying an hourly rate, will think you're overwrapping to run up the moving hours. Yes, some customers are clockwatchers and get nervous if they think you're taking too long to complete the move. Best way to avoid it is to wrap each item according to its condition and worth and do what's necessary but not overkill. If it's glass, bubblewrap it well, then a blanket, then place it in the truck in a way it cannot get damaged. China cabinets, curios, any large item with glass, there's no such thing as overkill IMHO.

Use your legs to squat or get low, never your back, and carry heavy objects close to you.

Looks good. Always use the light side of the pad if available on all furniture. Fold them light side in, it keeps them clean. The only thing I would add is the bottom dust flaps of the couch should be folded up and secured as this will keep them from getting wrinkled.

So I typically use the light side to indicate that something is fragile or has glass. You are right about the flaps for these older couches, this one was just a throw away!

Walmart, Home Depot, other stores like that will carry these items. The blue cloth padding is usually called “moving blankets” and the wrap is called “stretch wrap” or “moving wrap.”

Thank you so much, I will work on getting a video up with that information but in the mean time you can always find moving blankets and stretch wrap at your everyday home good store such Walmart Home Depot and Lowe’s. There are specialty stores that allow you to buy other equipment and materials but they are usually specific to your area.

The stretch wrap I use is 18 in long and 80 gauge. It is a little bit thicker than most other wraps but I feel it works well.

The roll I use is 18inch 80 gauge stretch wrap. These are great for covering a lot of surface fast.

Nice work, only tip, blankets on a moving truck are typically not very clean, and can transfer a lot of dust and dirt to a light colored cloth furniture causing a damage claim, its best to shrink, blanket, then shrink again, to avoid damage.

This is great! Do you recommend always keeping the couch cushions on when the couch is moved/stored? Or wrapping those up separately?

I usually keep them on unless it is a sleeper sofa. Makes everything easier. Leaving in storage is different, you may want to remove if in there for a long time.

With it being white, shouldn't you shrink wrap then pad and shrink again so the pad don't bleed onto the white couch

Uhaul has the best price I've seen on blanket pads. Otherwise any big box store (Lowes/Home Depot)

I personally have bought moving pads from Eco Box, Amazon, and even Craigslist when I was just starting out. You can find pads at Uhaul or most home goods store such as Home Depot, Walmart or Lowe’s.

If it is an all foam mattress you may be able to flatten it by vacuum sealing it. If not Amazon has Heavy Duty mattress protectors for like $50.

You can but it depends on how long you plan to leave it in there, as it could cause wrinkles to fabric. Also if you have a leather couch do not leave it wrapped in a storage as the fabric needs to breathe

Get a box. Label the box cushions. Put paper at the bottom of the box. Add the cushions. Place additional paper on top of the cushions. Seal the box. Upon reopening, ensure you don’t accidentally damage the cushions.

You can typically wrap the couch with the cushions just lay them down. However if they are oversized you can either box them up or if its a personal move and you don't mind, you can use them as fillers on the truck to fill any dead space.

If you mean your typical household blankets? I wouldn't see why not the only thing is they may not have really good protection if you need to maneuver it through a stairwell or elevator.

Yes you are right that definitely a topic that we have talked about another alternative could be tape but it just is not as efficient or cost effective. If you have alternatives I would love to know!
