If you are using a lure that performs better on straight floro( jerkbait, spybaits etc) I just put on 50-60’ leader, like u guys said it saves so much money and you can be way more versital

I'm a bank fisherman and what I do to take out twist is to cut lure off and walk and feed out line about a cast and a half,hold rod up and reel back line while holding between your thumb and first finger,as for dropshoting I pre tie my rigs and use small swivel on top to tie my main line to.i store the rigs in Poly bags

One you missed is close the bail by hand, not turn handle and let it snap shut. This puts a twist each time you do it. Also when I reel in let bait hang and let it twist till it stops then cast

I don't think it does. The rotor only starts adding twist to the line once it's closed. If you take a reel that doesn't have automatic closure at all (surf reels, for example): you could rotate the handle all day long with the bail open and nothing would happen, since the bail hasn't captured the line. It doesn't matter WHERE the bail grabs the line...but once it does and you start reeling in, that's when you introduce the unavoidable line twist with each rotation. The "snap" as you call it is the same exact movement as closing the bail by hand. Edit: I guess the only way it would be possible to add line twist by closing with the handle is if the drag was set super low and the bait very heavy and if the closing rotation tightens the line enough to peel some of the spool.

Randy, I have tried everything you mentioned in this video and these things do help a little to deal with line twist however I am sold on using braid and will never go back to straight fluorocarbon line again. Now I still get line twist, there's no way around that but the braid can take the twist without causing problems. I appreciate your channel and all the videos you make, you do a great job but this is one subject that I respectfully disagree with you. Take care my friend, hope to meet you someday.

Yep, all those things help to reduce line twist for sure. The water thing reduces memory in mono fairly well for awhile.

P-Line Floroclear has worked great for me. Bomb casts and very little twists…at least with 6 and 8lb.

I don't always agree with you Randy but I do on this subject, Straight Flouro all the way for me! Out west here we have way too much clear water not to fish straight flouro, braid will cost you bites! 🤷 It's worth the little extra effort in my opinion. Crazy how back in the day before braid was so popular we were still catching fish who would've thought haha! No connection knots fails either 🤷😂 Good stuff!

Pull the amount of line you need to fill you reel off the bulk spool laying it out over the lawn and cut if off. Run it through the rod eyes and tie it on the reel. Wind it on.

I'm braid to leader. It's too much of a hassle dealing with straight fluoro or mono. Braid to leader won a classic this last weekend, it works. To each their own though.

My question is, why go through all of that continuous hassle? As someone else said, it's the cost of flouro that's the deal breaker. The lifespan of braid is far greater and ends up being more cost effective. Plus, in my opinion, there's no comparison in the sensitivity and visibility and castability. If you're worried about fish seeing your line, use a longer leader. The best of both worlds. You will have to learn a good flouro to braid knot which there are many. I choose the crazy alberto.

I alternate side to side while spoiling. When it starts to twist I flip the line spool over. Best way I’ve found so far for me anyway

One more tip that works for me! Re-line that reel a week before you want to use it, it will form on the reel better and won't nest up as much....

wow! could you make it any more confusing. Opposite. you need line coming off spool opposit of line going on reel. since reels turn clockwise, line feom spool needs to come off counter clockwise. Randy prerty sure you said the opposite which is not correct

Most spinning reels wind on clockwise. That means you want the line coming off the spool counterclockwise.

You can lead a horse to water, but these two camps I fear will never see eye to eye. My key is if your dropshot'n or like system use a swivel three or four foot up the line. Another is free rig'n your drop shot.

@@Aqua_Holic_Fishing I was referring to main line. A line that floats affects a lure differently than one that sinks. A leader won't change that. I come from Florida and saltwater fishin', I almost always use leaders. And definitely in freshwater with braid. I don't understand why Randy is against braid to fluorocarbon. But I usually use mono for leader no matter what main line I use. I still like regular mono for trolling because of the stretch absorbing the shock of a strike. And if I was going to have a dedicated jigging rod I'd use fluoro because it sinks and that makes sense for jigs. Probably with a mono leader.

Sorry doesn’t work the way I fish, line twist inevitable just like backslash on baitcast reel, plus it’s not how you spool your line on to the spool, but it’s how you used on the water. Also not everyone have a boat like you to do what you’re doing, most us fish from the bank with very little space to do what so ever. I find it funny that you don’t mind spending all that time to let line out to prevent line twist which that takes more times than just a minute tying a connection knot hahaha

Missed the most important spinning reel lesson of all. Do not engage the reel with the handle. Always close your bail by hand and do your best to mend any slack line before reeling.
