Assassin is overrated. It's primary ability requires going first or surprise. Rogue itself requires advantage or attacking from stealth to use sneak attack. He stayed in monk for three high level abilities. 1) diamond soul, 2) unerring accuracy, and 3) sharpen the blade (which can also be used for ranged kensai weapons). Also if you are using those monk abilities to improve your accuracy or damage, you'll need a lot of ki points. Rogue is a different fighting style than John Wick. He was right to go Monk for Gun-fu. The added benefit of staying monk for 17 levels, you hit like a two-handed longsword. Both your monk weapons and unarmed strikes are 1d10 now.

@@ericpeterson8732 The question isn't what makes a better fighter, its what better represents the John Wick character. I think I'd have probably gone 11 Monk / 9 Rogue. With the 11 Monk levels being the same as this build. For the 9 Rogue levels, I'd go: R1 - Expertise (Stealth), Sneak Attack, Thieves Cant R2 - Cunning Action R3 - Roguish Archetype (Assassin - Assassinate) R4 - Feat (Alert) R5 - Uncanny Dodge R6 - Expertise (Perception) R7 - Evasion R8 - Feat (Tavern Brawler or Grappler) R9 - Roguish Archetype (Assassin - Infiltration) One of the things that's important about John Wick that I think the video's build misses is that alot of his killer gun work comes because he's getting the drop on guys and making what are (in DnD terms) ranged sneak attacks or assassinations when he enters a room or comes around a corner and enters combat with surprise. In that respect, you get a more faithful interpretation of the John Wick from the second movie who shoots his way through the sewers through the combination of Expertise (Stealth and Perception), Sneak Attack, Assassinate, and Alert than by just stacking up ranged attack accuracy. Likewise, Cunning Action, Uncanny Dodge, and Evasion really represent Wick in those running gun battles where he's constantly shooting and moving to get away from superior numbers, especially because by shooting and disengaging, he can reestablish surprise and work the sneak attack and assassinate. Tavern Brawler is great for the improvised weapons (like the sheet that you see in the video), but if you don't like that Grappler is good for all the Jiu Jitsu he does. And Thieves Cant is a good representation of the language he speaks from his Roma mafia background. Just my opinion.

Not officially, that's a fighter subclass in Mercer's Taldorei book and most of these build channels will only use official matieral so it can be used at most tables. Anybody can homebrew something that would replicate a character exactly but a lot of dms will probably not allow it.

Assassin is overrated. Most killers don't fit the rogue assassin style. First there is the cover identity ability at level 9, I believe. Who has time for that in game? Then there is assassinate itself. To use effectively, it requires surprise and a high initiative. Also to use effectively, you need a lot of sneak attack. 2d6 ain't going to cut it. Death attack also requires surprise. They are fine if you play that playstyle, but John's not sneaking around. He could, but he's not. I played an Assassin and it's not as great as you think.

@eric peterson while I greatly appreciate the breakdown of the class and it's functionality, that part of the comment was made entirely based on the lore of John Wick and his former occupation. The use of Battle Master was a very solid and useful choice. Final note, I'm more caster mains than burly smasher or sneaky stabby, so I'm not holding any rogue (sub)class on a pedestal.
