Karsten Runquist Downhill is right next to the movie Dr.Do Little on the AMC list. Another bad remake.
@NagaMorung4 ай бұрын
Another point to be noted is, the color of the film,that really sells the story of the original. The original film has low contrast and saturation that creates a softer, more subdued atmosphere, which can convey a sense of melancholy or introspection. While the remake had a bright and colorful, which generally can evoke feelings of happiness, excitement, and energy in the audience. This type of imagery is often used in uplifting or light-hearted genres such as comedies, musicals, or animated films I think the remake was an approach to make a comedy film, light heartfelt movie. I don't know if that's was the intended goal for the film but if it was not then I could also say ' everything about the remake made no sense'.

new law of thermodynamics; for every excellent european movie there's a proportionally terrible american remake.
Remakes in general bug me but remakes of international films just baffle me... they don’t need to be done just watch the original. God i hate hollywood.

99% of the time I would agree with that, but have you seen "The Departed"? It's a fantastic American remake of a foreign film called "Infernal Affairs ".

@edward matsyshen It still annoys me because the filmmakers, crew, and actors worked so hard on the original and it's almost always better the first time. We don't really need it in a language suited for us like hollywood seems to think we do..

Yeah. Remakes, sequels, and reboots are three biggest flaws of Hollywood films. Originality is what makes movies missing. Adaptations are justified.
@RobVespa4 жыл бұрын
If you think this film, or many (if not the majority of) other Hollywood remakes, were developed with the intent to honor another work, you're in for a rude awakening. Want to pay tribute to a film you care about? Make it available in your country or location. Put on a film festival. Buy the rights and sell it in your country. Show it in your country in theaters.

IMO one of the worst remakes I've attempted to watch was The Secret in their Eyes. The original was spicy shit, great storytelling with great characters and cinematography. The remake butchered the story and characters and made it one giant clusterfuck at around 40 minutes into the film (when I stopped watching). I'm going to hop into the sofa and try to watch it all the way through.

The first point reminds me of how Anthony Burgress' dislike the American release of his novel. This is because the last chapter, an epilogue, is left out, where Alex cleans up his act and leads a normal life. Burgress' theme was growing up and leaving out the last chapter destroyed that. On a side note, with the last original chapter left in, there are 21 chapters, which was done on purpose, 21 being the age where you become an adult. More on the topic of films, as well as my personal opinion, I think that while Kubrik's adaptation was OK, the book(even without the last chapter) was better, and that the movie destroyed the perceive theme of the shorter American book. The theme I think the book is about is how both the poor and criminals are mistreated and used as a scapegoat by both the government and detractors of the government. Alex attempts suicide because the people who he stayed with, including the person who's wife Alex previously killed, want to prove how wrong the government. Thus, the message is also to not trust those(the people who 'helped' Alex) who hate something(the government), even if you don't like said thing. However, in Kubrik's movie, Alex is killed because the man recognizes him, which clearly does not happen in the book, and I think that this makes the story more bland, boring, and theme/messageless.
