How to: Object Dye Salomon XT-6 (Tutorial)

Just dyed my pair of Salomon's XT-6! Here is a short documented video/tutorial of how I did it :)

Shot on: Lumix G80, BOYA XM6-S2 Microphone, iPhone 11 Pro
Items required:
1. Container
2. Rit Dye (Colour of your choice)
3. 1 Tablespoon Salt
4. 1 Tablespoon Dishwashing Liquid
5. Thongs
6. Boiling Water
7. Acetone (for new shoes)
Optional items: Timer, Bucket, Spare Cloth
Steps:
-Take out insoles of the shoes
-Fill up container with boiling water, add 1 tbsp salt & 1 tbsp dishwashing liquid. Mix.
-add 1/2 bottle Rit Dye. Mix. Soak shoes for 6minutes
- At 6minutes, add the remaining half of Rit Dye
-Soak till 9mins
-Take out, rinse dry with room temp water and air dry
(Steps could be adjusted to your preference and design, this was a guide to how I achieved my colour)

Wow, turned out great! glue stains dyed really well and the different hues of grey look awesome! I got them in the quarry/bleached sand/cumin colorway. Have them since 2 years and they are mad comfy and really nice to style!

Great vid again! I was thinking, if I should use the dye as a paint instead of soaking, to create the distressed effect

Thank you! Hmm I’m not sure how it’ll work, because the dye will require hot water to absorb into the material effectively. Using the dye alone may stain it but get rubbed off quickly, on the other hand it’ll may create the distressing effect so it’s worth the shot! Let me know how it goes if you ever try it😊

I did it with the regular dye and it worked the same The lip or tounge of the Salomon is cotton so it comes out as the color you want buttttttt the other fabric is nylon so it does not take at all . This is a struggle

Love it! I have a pair of all white bbs bamba 5s I got on sale. Have been meaning to do a custom dye job on them for months! Now you've motivated me and made it very simple. Thank you. Is boiling water necessary or can just hot water be good? Maybe 60-80deg C rather than 100C to protect shoe a bit?

Absolutely love the end result. I'm thinking about trying it out myself but I wonder, how did you go about applying the acetone? How much did you use and where did you apply it?

Hey! Thank you, for the acetone I poured some on a cloth and rubbed it all over the shoe (except the bottom sole). I let it dry for about 5-10mins and repeated the process. I did it twice. Hope it helps!

You can use bottled water to weigh the shoes down. Maybe can attempt fade effect with them.

Thanks man! Probably soak them in for longer, but it won't fully take in the colour of the dye because of its waterproof properties, it'll just turn darker.

I actually am gonna try this but with some adidas I got from my job! I’m thinking keeping the water at high temp over a burner will help the material absorb the dye more? 🤔

I don’t recommend over the burner because it might affect the material / dye of the shoe cuz it’s kept at constant heat. Good luck :) looking forward to it!

Did you remove the insoles while dying the shoes and did you recoat the shoes with a sealant again afterwards?

My XT-6 has blue and yellow outsole, do you think dying it will work? I primarily use it for the gym.

Hey man! Yes dyeing would work but you have to pick the colour dye wisely. Because it is blue and yellow, the colours will mix and turn out different, do keep in mind :)

Just did it on my pair. I think I left it in the dye for too long as the whole shoe became too dark. So make sure your checking every minute if you want a lighter color. Thanks!

what parts of the shoe did you use the acetone on?

Hey man, the whole shoe except the bottom of the soles. I poured the acetone on a cloth and rubbed throughout the shoe. I let it dry for 5-10mins and repeated it again. Hope it helps!

@@shawnsylabol i ended up dying them and they turned out waaay different. kind of disappointing but still cool. very similar to this video where his shoes turned more burgundy than graphite. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZtViidGZsa23YXU.html&ab_channel=REDTAILRAY i'll probably end up dying them again in the future or use my second pair

@@jayden1029 I just watched your video! Your shoe model is different from mine. The difference in materials used plays a huge part to the end result. It probably turned out more burgundy because your shoes were used prior to dyeing with a greyish colour, when mixed with the graphite it reacted that way. But still a cool look tho! :)

@@shawnsylabol oh i used a triple white xt6. i just sent the link because he had the same color outcome as me despite the different model, but i think its because i didnt use boiling or close to boiling water, i used just really hot water
