How to open BMW X5 E53 rear door with child lock on and broken outside door handle

Here is a quick video of how to open your BMW X5 E53 rear door, when you have the child-lock on and the outside door decides to play dead. After googling yesterday to see if anyone had any ideas and found none. I thought I’d share how I managed to get rear door open. Hope it helps

I have 2006 X5. I had the same problem and been like that for 2yrs. Today I decided to take door panel off but decided to KZfaq it first. I found your video and thought very smart. It worked in 5 minutes of trying. Only difference I used Fly Swatter. Cut small hole in it. Your great thank you 👍

Thank you so much. After looking at other KZfaq instructions advising to take off the seats, door panel, etc., I gave up, too much time and too much work. Today, I went to the dollar tree store, bought a plastic spatula, and voila! My door is now open is less than 1 minute. 😂 Again, thank you for sharing this, this is genius!

After my wife locked the door the same way. I then used a spatula and opened it. Later I took the same spatula and began wacking her with it so she wouldn't do it again. The spatula came in handy. Ever since then ,I have used the spatula for keeping her in line whenever she misbehaves. She's been good lately. The spatula is framed in a glass that reads "break glass in case of emergency" hanging by my office desk.

Worked like a charm. Went to Walmart and bought a cheap spatula. 5 minutes later two open rear doors. Thank you! 2005 X5

@@Cancelkulture it's a cheap floppy one. It would be trash to cook with. I'll look to see if I still have the package. But just head on over to Walmart and get what they have. It will work, it's easy to do.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am was changing a broken door actuator and I managed to engage the child lock which meant I couldn't open the door from the inside or outside. Your little trick saved me.....Thanks again!!!

UPDATE !!! Continuation from my last message 5 days ago below. I purchased a new door lock and I pulled up a comfy lawn chair and had a cold beer in hand and a cigar. All while watching my wife install the door handle mechanism. Since she is the one that last broke it AND the one to activate the child lock I had her install the damn thing herself. If she gets out of line and cant install it properly, I still have the same spatula in hand waiting to wack her once again. I will keep you all posted as to the results of her install. I'm now going to enjoy me ice cold beer.
