how to open a c6 corvette Headlight using basic tools. No need to use an oven, use a heat gun! do it at your own risk and if you mess up I sure as heck wont be responsible!

Wow! Who woulda thought it'd be that easily done. I thought these lights were nearly all of one piece. And the baking soda & soda is probably a great fix for other plastic screw receiver repairs...

I would have liked to see what process and materials you used to reseal the headlights to new lenses. I understand the resealing process is as important in order to keep moisture from getting inside the lenses, causing fog, and mold inside the housing.

I know this has been up for a while, hope you see this. Did you clean the inside of clear plastic cover? How? Does cleaning damage the INSIDE finish of the clear cover? Mine are hazy (normal apparently). Thx.

froggy I cleaned the interior with a rain x anti fog glass cleaner and a microfiber towel.

Dan Douglas more heat and patience, use a skinny flat head screw driver to get inside the groove

Hold on a sec. As for reassembling that headlamp, how does that work? you've undone the factory seal with the heat gun. You would like to re-establish a factory looking seal. What does that look like? My goal is disassemble the headlamp, polish the inside surface of the headlamp which badly needs to be polished, then reassemble the thing. ditto for fog lights.

I removed all the factory sealant from the groove then used "Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant". You can find it at any auto-parts store or Walmart. Clamped using about 7 heavy duty clamps and left it at room temperature for about 24hrs. You will get an equal to factory type seal using that silicone adhesive

When you put the sealant in and put the new lenses on did you put the headlight back in the oven? If so what temp and how long? With using that sealant is there a wait time before it’s fully sealed and ready for reinstalling back onto the car?

I used silicone caulk two years ago and haven't had any leakage issues in my Vette's headlight.

The correct way is with a butyl windscreen sealant. When you order replacement lenses make sure it comes with sealant. It comes in a rope wrapped in paper and is super sticky and flexible like thick tar like the stuff they use when replacing windshields. It also allows you to mush it in with a perfect airtight seal.
