Күн бұрын

In this video I will start teaching you the basics about how the Boeing 737 is operated. We will be talking about scan-flows and areas of responsibility.
This video is supposed to be used together with the "Mentour Aviation" app and the playlist "Boeing 737NG setup. From cold to takeoff".
Watch this video in order to make more sense of the instruction given in the application and feel free to ask questions in the chat inside the app.

I'm not a pilot, no desire to be a pilot, never really wondered what it's like to be a pilot or fly a plane and found your channel accidentally. As a matter of fact I don't understand most of your technical explanations but I'm absolutely fascinated with your videos. Can't stop watching. I've also gained a new level of respect and admiration for the men/women who fly the skies

My wife is teaching a course on organizational behaviour and was looking for a clip that explains the concept of areas of responsibility. She told me she found a good one and asked me to edit it for her. I was surprised and delighted to see it's yours. I have been following you and enjoying your videos for quite some time.

Hello! Thank you Captain so much for all your highly pedagogical videos. I must say that you really have all the qualities that one is looking for in a good instructor, and your personality also suites the KZfaq video format very well. You are always so positive and alert, which makes it really easy and enjoyable to follow your videos. Thank you and good evening from Stockholm, Sweden.

Dang! It's a lot more complicated to be a pilot nowadays than I thought. People always say, "a modern plane can take off, and land itself with the modern computers, autopilot, etc." Our pilot friend here has shown there's a LOT more to flying an airplane than I believed.

Leo Ferreyra what's this based on? First day at an airline seems like a fun and exciting one, not scary at all. You've trained for it and as a pilot you're supposed to deal with the stress.
@mikev8782
@mikev8782 5 жыл бұрын
I agree with Leo Ferreyra, first day is rough. To me it was like the first day of a new school year. Also, first day you don’t fly, you go into a class room and start going over stuff, policies, rules, regulations, HR, and stuff you didn’t even know was out there. Then if you pass that, you move on to learning your new airplane. It’s about month to a month and a half worth of work before you even touch a plane. The amount of info thrown at you is insane and is called drinking from the fire hose. Some one said it like taking a semester of college and doing it in a month. Yes you are excited but definitely scared and wondering if you made a good life choice.

Q1... If I were to book a professional flight simulator, what should I do to prepare, so I could make the most of my time in the simulator (aside from practicing straight and level flight). Q2... Is it possible to bump a button/control inadvertently, or are the buttons/controls designed to only be able to be pushed purposely? Q3... Is it possible to injure ones self on the trim-wheels when autopilot is engaged?

Marc Watson a type rating is required here in the U.S. to act as PIC "pilot in command" of an aircraft with a max takeoff weight of 12,500 pounds or more. i.e. Boeing 737, 747, Airbus A320, A380 etc.

SwagTurtle32 I can only speak for the A320. the main differences are the side stick vs.a yoke in the Boeing and the positioning of the thrust levers. we set for takeoff, flex, climb and a full reduction to idle about ten feet before landing. otherwise the throttles do not move when speed commands are entered to the MCP. the A320 is very comfortable, safe and a joy to fly. it is all weather capable. I have not flown the 737 so those questions must go to Mentour.

Thanks for all your great videos. Since you are talking about „motoric memory”, would it be possible for the two main competitors to build similar/near identical cockpits? When I mean similar, I mean really the same layout of buttons, knobs, handels, screens etc. Like all computer keyboard manufacturers are putting to market the same keyboard layout/mapping. Could that be done for b737 and a320?

In an emergency, how do areas of responsibility work? I would have thought that the Captain would want to be communicating with ATC and flying the plane. I'm thinking of a scenario like Cactus 1549, for example.
@Firecul
@Firecul 7 жыл бұрын
Rules of flying: Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. Always in that order. Main priority, if possible get/keep the plane at a safe altitude and course. Next is figure out where you want to go. If possible head there. Then let ATC know so they can help or at least keep everyone out of the way. Pilot flying is always in charge of flying. Pilot monitoring would be the one running through the (emergency) checklists and communicating with ATC. The only reason that should change is if the PM is unavailable for whatever reason.

Why bigger aircraft are slower during landing approach
@jerrycrockett2545
@jerrycrockett2545 5 жыл бұрын
Commercial aircraft and most training aircraft today are equipped with flaps. Flaps are high lift devices that can be extended from the trailing edge of the wing. Large aircraft and some light aircraft also have high lift devices on the leading edge of the wing consisting of slots and slats. Extending slats on the leading edge of the wing and flaps on the trailing edge increases the camber, or curve of a wing. This increases the wing's coefficient of lift for a given angle of attack, and reduces the stall speed. In simplest terms, slats, slots, and flaps change the shape of the wings, allowing an aircraft to takeoff and land slower than it otherwise could.

If it is the braking would be better. Its harder to stop a big plane at higher speeds.The brakes get hotter when applied at higher speed a very dangerous condition. They can overheat the engine causing fire or not cool off for an hour interfering with your turnaround flight departure.

Question... If a pilot can pilot an aircraft in heavy mist, low visibility... Why are the windows still needed?
@jerrycrockett2545

Unlike the underwater environment of submarines the simple answer is the skies are a busy place with many different types of aircraft operating under different levels of regulation. Ultimately it remains every pilot's responsibility to see and avoid hitting anyone sharing the sky around them. FAR 91.113 Part (b) When weather conditions permit, regardless of whether an operation is conducted under instrument flight rules or visual flight rules, vigilance shall be maintained by each person operating an aircraft so as to see and avoid other aircraft.
