In the us the most common windows are double hung vertically sliding windows that tilt inwards for cleaning.

@@kellymoses8566 I’m a custom luxury home builder in the USA, and I can assure you that the windows we traditionally use, even the highest rated, are utter trash compared to European windows depicted in this video. The difference is so vast that I’m currently in Europe seeking a maker that will distribute directly to me in USA for use on my future builds. Yes, they’re THAT good, an absolute game changer.

Well, basically all throughout Europe this style of window is a standard affair. you basically have two options for window blinds: fit them on the outside of the recess (typically fitted with a pulley system that can be operated from the inside) or simply fitted to the moving part of the frame on the inside - don't know what's available in the US market, but there is really no disaster

Looks like the second window , the one without handle, lacks option to open. In germany usually both or each windows have each handle, if not they can still be opened by a little turn of a hinge of the handleless window, after opening the window with handle. No one wants to clean window in 10th floor standing on chair while trying not to fall. Most make the mistake to build this type of window but let it open to the outside, which makes it impossible to clean the outside of the window glass. Also, where is the mechanical operated screen to protect from light, cold, storm that come with german style windows.

Super interesting video. 45° handle position isn't an official window function. Because burglar open that position easily. It might work, but no. I know none using it.
@DB-47
@DB-47 3 жыл бұрын
Actually some manufacturers of locking mechanisms and window handles advertise this 45 degree position as microventilation. When I exchanged old handle for newer one with lock I noticed there are notches each 45 degrees. However I can lock handle only in ventilation mode (handle upwards) or closed mode (hande downwards). Also microventilation offers quite small airflow in order to remove excessive humidity and if temperature falls below freezing point, humidity can condensate in window frame and this can damage locking mechanism by corrosion or freezing.

I’m from Czechia and everyone uses it like this. Also it is an official function presented by the windows manufacturers.

@@liongatewindowcorp Maybe the frame got twisted because the wall is too thin and soft. Europeans often presume that their heavy-framed windows and doors are unsuitable for American cardboard homes. I once installed a new door into the shed that a friend of mine had under his 2nd floor balcony. That is his father had closed the space under that balcony on its three (open) sides to have a shed for gardening stuff and bikes many years ago. As the strong balcony is its roof he did not need to use heavy timbers and the entire thing was very flimsy. Now the door had started to rot and we got a new door plus frame from the home improvement store that would fit in. It did, but the plastic frame "wobbled" as soon as we opened the door together with the entire wall and the door did not close correctly anymore unless we reinforced the timbers it was bolted to. After that everything was fine.

@Wineblood
@Wineblood Жыл бұрын
From the ones I've seen in Europe, they're not fixed. There's a latch where the two panes touch that you can access when you open the one with the handle. Move the latch and the pane without the handle swings like a door (the final movement shown in this video).
@prorace_type_r

Yep, like Wineblood says, they are operated either with a latch or they will both have a handle. It's really uncommon to have a fixed one.

No, I came across that as some sort of fun-fact via a detour. I wanted to see how Americans experience life in Germany. There are many military families who live "off-base", there are bankers, scientists, craftsmen and -women, ex-soldiers whofor some reason spent their lives here, and so on. And almost EVERYONE of those who have a channel here on YT and who give their followers and viewers a tour of their house come forward with the topic "Fenster auf kipp", the colloquial expression for "window tilted". If someone should ever write a book about those Americans in Germany that expression would be the perfect title.

LOL. It's not supposed to do that! You should check the safety on the side of the window if it has one. It's also really important if you don't have a safety (ours always do) to make sure the window is fully shut before trying to open it. Some of the older style tilt and turn don't have this safety mechanism to prevent this from happening.

I think it's safe to say you can put blinds on the door up above.. as in regards to the handle, you can cut maybe three blinds off at the end where the handle is, and It's fine. But If you don't do that, then they will look mighty shitty if you've done it a while.
