Totally sorry about the coloring.
Time code for different sections:
00:03 Intro
00:28 Explaining why the bicycle tires wears off differently between the front and the rear Brompton tires
03:57 Swapping the tires between wheels
Tires on the Brompton are expensive, you surely want to use them to the max. Experience told me the rear tire last around half as long as the front tire. By swapping the tire between the front and the rear during their life spam, you can really max out the usage on them.
Love it all, go Brompton go!
Happy Brompton-ing! See you tomorrow.

If you can change 2 Brompton tires in under ten minutes you need to apply for a job as a mechanic on a Tour de France racing team!

This is so interesting. I've been riding a (road) bike for 20 years and it never occurred to me that one tire would wear faster than the other because of weight distribution. Great tip!

When the rear tyre is worn out, I put the front tyre on the rear and a new tyre on the front. I always keep a brand new tyre ready in stock. Have been riding Stridas and then Bromptons and doing this since 2009. Seems to work OK. The possible advantage is that the front tyre always has the better tread, meaning more effective steering and braking.

Very interesting to see the weight distribution! With M or H handlebars, even more weight eill be on the rear wheel. Also, good idea to swap the front and rear tyres. Another possibility: Using Marathon Plus tyres for the rear snd normal Marathons for the front. I did that for my last tyre set and it worked great. Not a single puncture. And you almost always get punctures on the rear tyre, so the Marathon Plus worked well there. But it‘s really heavy - 460 g vs 270 g or something like that. Now I have the new Continental Contact Urban tyres. I like them a lot so far, they roll better than the Marathons. Maybe you should try them if you can get them.

Great video - a question - you mentioned that the leather strap you have on your bike is on your store - is there a link for it?

Hello Petrelli, thank you for the analysis you always share. A question: Isn't it more convenient to change the rear tire twice in addition to the front one (Totalizing 3 tires), than to change with the rotation method, and at the same time as the previous example, 4 tires? I hope I have made myself understood. Greetings and thank you very much!

Thanks for watching the video and dropping the comments here. Yes, it’s easier if you just use 3 tires in total to get the same result. I like to rotate my tires like this to really max them out and also you get to have a pair of new tires for that being new feeling, rather then one new and one old. But these are personally, which ever works.

All that added weight on the rear may be why some believe a Brompton steers better with a bag (and thus weight) on the front.
@Petrellionwheels
@Petrellionwheels 3 жыл бұрын
Most of the bicycle that we see everyday actually sharing the same 40/60 weight distribution as well. If you take a look at the touring bikes where they have bags at both the front and rear as well as the middle frame bag. They literally would advice you to spread the weight evenly. It’s all in the frame design. Anyway, thanks for your comment and spending time watching the video.

Hi bro. Does all Brompton rear wheel dished? Rim more to rite side. It’s is normal?
@effyleven

So, the front to back wear-ratio, or tyre life ratio, is pretty much the SAME as the weight distribution over the two wheels. 2:1 right? I hate to say It, but why am I not surprised?

I would never put a tyre that's been worn on the rear on the front! When the rear wears is cuts a ridge into the tyre (much more than on the front). If you out that ridge on the front it makes banking into a corner more unstable. I would only ever rotate front to back, and put a new tyre on the front...

Hi Petrelli, thank you for making these awesome videos, I have been enjoying your videos a lot , even though I am not a Brompton owner. I was looking into buying over 10 years ago and I ended up picking road bike and mountain bike. Until recently, I found the Brompton brochure that I got over 10 years ago and along with watching your videos I am hooked!! I called the local dealer and sadly due to the pandemic there is no Brompton available for sale (Vancouver Canada)!! According to Brompton, there is going to be a 10 months to a year before there will be anything shipping oversea... and Kevin_sugiarto mentioned something about a very high demands around the world during the world especially Indonesia. Can you explain to me why Indonesia loves Brompton? Many thanks in advance. By the way, Brisbane is amazingly beautiful. Take care, looking forward to your new videos. Best regards, Stanley

Awesome, I always had the impression the weight distribution would be 70/30, and you confirmed that. And as you pointed out, dynamic situations such as braking or accelerating change that. Rotating tires is a good technique, thanks for sharing that!

I just replace whichever tyre needs it when it needs it. Why waste time swapping them over? They don't have to both be replaced at the same time. And yes, of course I have to replace the rear tyre more frequently LOL.

Hi Petrelli - you should have a look at these new (2019 introduction) tires from Continental, a profunde German Producer. I just switched from the Schwalbe Kojak to this tire and I am absolute exited about them. Much more Comfort and puncture protection without loosing speed and rolling resistance. If you can get one of these don’t hesitate to buy them. Thx for another nice video - Brompton rules 👍🏻 🚴🏻💨💨💨😉 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m6yXZbqklt3Rk6M.html
