I was a waiter in both the Vietnam and U.S.A... The ordering, I actually like the American version. As a waiter, I want customers, regards if you know what you are ordering. Please wait in line, and wait for the waiter to show you to the table, respectful to other customers as well. I see so many Vietnamese customer in America, where I used to work, are disrespectful. Coming in, sit at whatever table they want and start being angry when we don’t take their orders. While other customers are in line waiting, and cut them and don’t even care. This is not Vietnam, can’t just sit anywhere and everywhere and not think about the people in line. I love my country Vietnam, but please have respect to the people working there and other customers.

Not sure when you were the waiter...But now a day, if the restaurant don't want customers walk in and seat themselves, simply put a sign at the front "Please wait to be seat".

in australia we seat ourselves unless it has a sign saying wait to be seated so i see both peoples points and i dont mind either way..but cutting in line or not waiting your turn is the height of rudeness in my opinion...hate how you HAVE to tip in the USA though..dont do that here unless you want to...

I've been in VN restaurants in different places. The one in L.A. was so good but soooo expensive (I could buy 12 phố in VN).My first VN restaurant was in Berlin, Germany. Food was awesome.I use to go to one in my city(Barcelona, Spain)which is very good and the crew is so nice and friendly.Recently I got into a new one in Barcelona through a friend, which is also very good.During summer holidays I went to another in Madrid.Yeah,I love Vietnamese food,no matter where I am!🇻🇳

hmm... I think restaurants - nhà hàng, eateries - quán ăn (if that is the right word), and popup food-stalls are often lumped into 1 category by foreigners who visit Vietnam. Restaurants provide proper dining style, while eateries can provide multiple kinds of food with almost proper sitting space for affordable price, and popup food-stalls mostly provide only 1 kind of food with complementaries related to that offering and might not even have proper sitting or only for take-aways

One of the reasons they want to seat you in an American restaurant is to spread out the customers among different waiters. It not only shares the load, but also spreads the tips.

My favorite Vietnamese cafe in Melbourne has a menu that goes on for pages. And have been to many cafes in Vietnam with one to several items on the menu. Then paying in Australia - swipe your card. Paying in Vietnam - you hand over some notes. After counting all the zeros. Then the waiter pulls out a roll of notes and peels off a few for your change.

Interesting video. As I hope to visit Vietnam next year, this is very helpful. Plus, when I was in Honk Kong in 2019, fortune cookies didn't exist when I was eating at a local mom and pop restaurant, perhaps at a high end restaurant, but nonetheless, I didn't see no fortune cookies. Since living in California for nearly 20 years, I was introduce to Vietnamese cuisine from my mom's hair salon specialist which she is Vietnamese and I enjoy her home made Vietnamese food. I will sub to your channel to learn more in depth of Vietnamese culture.

@@WhatThePho God, how true that is! I don't even "do" KZfaq, but still have to deal with the haters. Any time you say something substantive, or even not necessarily substantive but in a well-worded way, there will always exist members of what they call "the peanut gallery" lying off somewhere in the shadow of the margins waiting to lurch and, well, essentially show their ass. Especially in the West, and perhaps particularly in the US, there's a real and tangible tendency folks have to do a twisted sort of math which says, in sum, "Your capability shines a spotlight on my incompetence," and leaves them to respond to your input in ugly ways and even on very personal terms. Shutting them up (or down) has almost become sport for me. Easy pickings. They always overreach. In your case? You, my dear, are what we in the US call "the real McCoy." In other words, you simply ooze of not only goodwill but also a rare degree of authenticity. Something to be very, very proud of. So sure, those who lack the capacity for such authenticity and, instead, truck in any of various forms of duplicity, are naturally going to be drawn to you like a magnet, or like moths to a flame. The ugly loathe beauty. It makes them feel cheated. The courage to be authentic is high order beauty. So let them burn themselves out. All the rest of us adore you, as we should.

I think they were originally just a thing in certain temples. Mostly, modern fortune cookies are a result of both Japanese and Chinese commercializing them in the U.S.

They will serve hot dogs, pizza and Churros on the US beach but in Vietnam they will serve Com Suon, pho and hu tieu on the beach. Also in the US the price is static but in Vietnam i guess you should double check the bill because the price can fluctuate depending on if you are a foreigner or what not. Love Vietnamese food. Banh Trang Thit Heo, Canh ga chien mam, and rau cu xao all the way 🤤 At first being stared at while eating by some was off putting, but it doesn’t happen often and don’t even notice it now. Another good tip for foreigners when going to restaurants or coffee shops is if they provide you with an English menu it’s good to ask for the Vietnamese menu too. Had a few coffee shops who handed me the English menu thinking I was a tourist, and the prices were actually higher than in the Vietnamese menu. Maybe it’s a bit of a low-key scam, but something to be aware of as it’s happened to me a couple of times here in Da Nang (even with my Vietnamese wife) 😂

Amazing similarity between Filipino and Vietnamese cultures. Most not all, of what you presented in this video is also very common in the Filipino culture. The one that makes me laugh is, when you said give the tip directly to the Server, if you don't, most likely the server will not get any of it. I can assure you, Filipinos visiting Vietnam will feel at home and very comfortable.

I used to work as a waitress in Ninh Kieu quay which is a tourist destination in Can Tho, Viet Nam. We didn't usually get tipped but when we did most of the time It's from foreign tourists not Vietnamese customers

That was what I suspected. Most countries do not tip. America is one of the few that tips. Even in Europe tips are uncommon unless it's from Americans. In the Philippines they expect tips only from American citizens as well.
