Hi, I’m Bojan from The Roman Guy.
Today, we're in front of the legendary Sant'eustachio Café.
They claim to make the best coffee in Rome, and I honestly couldn't agree more.
Today, I’m going to show you how to order coffee, over here.
Sant'eustachio is famous for their coffee beans, but they’re equally as famous for how they make it.
They add the sugar to the cup before adding the coffee.
The sugar is dissolved by the coffee, as soon as it leaves the machine, creating a better espresso, or cappuccino.
We know many of you don’t take sugar with your coffee, but we recommend trying the Sant'eustachio way, while you are here in Rome.
In Italy, it’s always important to get your scontrino first. What’s a scontrino?
Scontrino is a little receipt that you get, after paying.
Once you get your scontrinio, you’re ready to order your coffee.
There are so many varieties.
Before you order, you need to make up your mind, what you want to get.
Very confusing.

The confusing thing that i noticed is ' the receipt ' first isn't the way every shop does it ; So generally , If there is one person serving people they make it , then you pay them ... if it's a busier place with a lot of employees ... you pay first then bring receipt to bar to be served by the people making coffees ....

Eustachio may be considered good, but across from it is Tazza D’oro, my favoritest favorite of all favorites in Rome. They have less people, I think better coffee, nicer employees, it’s just a great environment. It’s bigger too! Go there!

The one thing you should have covered is if you walk out and sit down, you get screamed at. Then when you stand to the side to wait to be seated as instructed after the screaming, the waiter will then happily seat people who arrive after you as you wait. Eventually gave up, returned the cups, threw the pastries in the trash and walked away.

Thanks for commenting on our almost 10 year old video. Much appreciated! Yeah the seats outside are for table service. So you are cheating if your take your coffee at the bar and bring it out to the table. There is a dedicated waiter out there for that. One of my favorite Rick Steve’s quote about being in a destination is that, “if things are not to your liking, consider changing your liking.” Happy Travels!

Italy don't plant coffee so the best coffee in Italy is imported. There is no magic in preparing coffee. Import the right beans, buy the right machines and you can make the best coffee at home. That is what Starbucks discovered many years ago. Starbucks in Italy sells more than the traditional coffee shops.

Starbucks is like the McDonald’s of coffee, so not high quality, and they seem to sell more items other than traditional coffee these days. So I don’t really see them challenging these traditional coffee bars. I feel like they will serve a much different customer.

It's not just about the bean- it's also VERY much about the roasting process. I live in Seattle and it's a veritable mecca of coffee- although Starbucks started here, most self-respecting Seattleites don't drink it because it's crap.

it is not as simple as that........starbucks coffee has nothing to do with roman coffee......it is clear you have gotten no idea what a real tasteful coffee is about......starbucks is only hype.....people go there just to be seen......again roman coffee is way way far good than starbucks coffee.....

Most overrated coffee in Rome. There are far better places to drink espresso, unfortunately they don’t have the marketing backing and hype.
@TheTourGuyVids
@TheTourGuyVids Жыл бұрын
I don’t think so and I have it most mornings in Rome. I don’t know what marketing backing you are talking about but it’s a family owned and operated business. We also pay for our coffees every time
@gpapa31
@gpapa31 Жыл бұрын
@@TheTourGuyVids Marketing backing has nothing to do with whether it is family owned or not. It comes down to how much money you, as a businessman/owner, are willing to throw to advertise and push your establishment; absolutely nothing wrong with that. The amount of merchandise alone (accessories, shirts, fridge magnets, glassware etc) with their logo on is proof enough. Not even Starbucks doesn’t have that amount of merchandise. lol As far as the coffee establishment and its fame around “the best espresso in the world goes” is debatable. Yes, it could have been amazing sometime ago I can’t vouch for that, but as of May 2023 when I tried it (twice) it was mediocre to say the least. In my short stay in Rome I went to two other places (suggested by locals) that serve speciality coffee 10 times better than the one from Eustachio, with specified Roasting dates on and origin details. I am pretty certain had I stayed longer I would have found more. The fact that they serve espressos at such high speed rate (due to insane volume of customers) makes it practically impossible to create a great shot even if your beans are the best in the world and have the best intentions. You need time to weigh the beans, grind on the spot (coffee starts losing flavours almost 15-20 mins after grind), WDT it, properly level tamp it, time it for proper extraction (weight/time) and proper ratio and allow the machine to cool down after a few shots to avoid “burning” the follow up shots. That last one depends on the machine but even the ones costing thousands of dollars cannot handle the amount of traffic I saw without overheating shots at some point. In the rare occasion that they actually do all that behind the well hidden machine/prep area, the result is an espresso shot with a ridiculous amount of crema (around 80%!!), bitter and unable to taste any fruity notes of the coffee. Which means the “screw up” is either happening due to bad or dated beans (high unlikely), bad preparation (highly likely) or bad execution (rushed - extremely likely) or a combination of any of the above. Of course there’s also the scenario that that IS the type of coffee they want to serve and consider great. If that IS the case then ignore my feedback.
