I accepted a long time ago that I can (and did) make mistakes. The big life lesson I got today is: other people can make mistakes, too. I can be hurt, I don't have to agree. But I must learn to accept this too and still be my authentic self. Thank you, have a beautiful Sunday!

Great share Ellie... and yes, ff we apply the acceptance teaching to ourselves we must also apply it to others. No CCJ for you or anyone else. Remember also that you create the emotional 'hurt' or Red Light Feeling, so you can now choose to create this or not... x

I have issues figuring out why I cheated on my wife… not just once… many times. Finally the divorce has really hit me and has tremendously affected my inner child. I spend a lot of time crying and wishing I was a different person. I know this isn’t the way I should go, but I am still having this issue. I do take the responsibility and I really want to become the best person I can be. Sorry if this got too long, but I needed to write this out.

No one is perfect. Not our parents, not our caregivers, not our siblings, not our relatives, not our friends. No one so we are all imperfect and we all make mistakes and that's how we learn the hard lessons of life. Very true each one of us has to find our own balance and flip the bad experiences to learn something from it and help others with what we learned from it.🙏

Thank you both for this teaching. The difference between acceptance and forgiveness really struck home with me. Beating yourself up is a pattern I have repeated. Now I see that I am doing that for the payoff of not being responsible....what a light bulb. I also liked the saying “Poacher turned Gamekeeper”.

This was a very powerful and difficult video. I think it's because I personally had to re-enter the situation in which I made the mistake and relive it in order to really understand what belief systems were impacting me at the time.

I am sure I have watched this video ten times but listening to it tonight it really sunk in. A point that struck a chord quite deeply is that we really don’t like to admit we are not perfect and that we make mistakes. This is quite bizarre when I consider the weight of guilt I have carried round over the years. You think we would accept quite early in the process of making mistakes and obsessing over the feelings that we get from the judgements we place on ourselves that we are not perfect. It’s also a very curious thing to say to ourselves I.e. that we are not perfect as it kind of implies that there is a standard of perfection around somewhere. Of course perfection is a perception and I never quite knew what perfection was but for me I think having the flash car (a red Porsche) and a million other qualities was probably my bar lol. Admitting I made mistakes isn’t so hard to yourself it’s when I won’t admit then to others. Then I build a wall of lies I end up believing. It’s hard to be humble but it’s beautiful to know that I am human and that being human I am not perfect never will be 🤭 and it’s actually okay and extremely necessary that I make mistakes for my development, maybe just try to make a few less each day 😁😁

So true David. Too often we pass on the power to others to forgive us. Once we learn to forgive ourselves and get resolution. Yes we don't want to take responsibility and find excuses to justify our behavior. Yes I want to live in truth to my HIGHER truer self. Yes we have to stop continuously moving on this self torturing path. Tks David and Alex. I love the term "Carousel of Despair".🎠🌝🍕🍕🌺🌺🌻🙏

This is something I will need to keep re watching. I think I struggle with stepping away from forgiveness as a ideal is that it is a key Christian concept and I was brought up in that tradition. This has such deep ramifications for me personally to think that how forgiveness been taught is wrong and the focus is more helpfully on acceptance. It's going to be powerful to get to acceptance of all of these things and also the things that I've done wrong which are causing me guilt, shame and regret at the present time.

Hi Sanjana, Thank you for your question as you know from our videos, the teaching is you are the creator of your emotions, not the victim. Anger is an emotion, therefore, you are creating it! To find out the root cause or Fountainhead of the anger, you have two practice the Golden Thread Process that we demonstrate on many videos to understand the underlying life lesson. David

Alex and David: Thank you so much for doing what you do. I only just found you! For years now I have been suffering waves of regret, guilt, shame that sometimes feel like tsunamis. I am guessing these are red light symptoms? Almost like panic attacks. I feel like i'm going to get sick. The "I can't believe I did that." or "Oh. My. God. What have i done?" It just washes over me and colors everything I do or don't do. In fact I am paralyzing myself. I never thought of all of this in terms of "acceptance, not forgiveness." It makes so much sense. It never occurred to me all this time while alternating between these bouts of self-punishment and bouts of this need for forgiveness that really I have only been desperately seeking ways to avoid acceptance. I've been skipping a step, THE step. And if that's what I'm going to keep doing, then I will be doing it til the day I die and STILL NOT FORGIVE myself. For the first time in a long time I am feeling hopeful. And I want to learn how to get to the bottom of it and change truly.

I would like to work with David by video on this issue. I placed my Dad in a nursing home 30 years ago (I am now 67). I have been punishing myself for 30 years because it was a rash and unnecessary decision and he suffered and died there. I was overcome at the time with urgency and negative emotion which I longed to escape from. What I am taking away from this video is the idea that I cannot undo what I did, although I have the strongest desire of my entire life to undo this decision. And that I must accept that I was a flawed human being, actually AM a flawed human being. This is what's difficult to accept because I don't think I'm lovable if I am not perfect and forgiven. Not deserving of love towards myself. I have learned the lesson of not making rash decisions, or letting feelings flow and not acting quickly upon them without sitting with them. There was a lot I didn't realize, a lot was simple ignorance. Yet I cannot forgive myself for that, either.

I know that this is old but your comment really resonated with me. I’m currently going through something that I regret doing and it goes against my morals and values and it is something I cannot undo.. I made the quickest decision possible because it was something I would have preferred not to wait long on. Instead of sitting in my emotions, I made a really quick, stupid decision. I too understand that I am flawed and will make mistakes just like other people, but I just feel like I’m better than what I did and should have known better. I feel bad just as you do but while I was reading your comment, I felt compassion for you which is something I do not feel for myself. I would just like to tell say that you were probably doing what you thought was right at the time although you realize now it was not exactly the best decision. I would also like to tell you that you should try to be compassionate to yourself just as someone else would be to you. That decision doesn’t make you a bad person and it definitely doesn’t mean you did not love your dad. Also, you are a good person for looking back and realizing that there was another decision you could have made and just the fact that you feel emotion about it shows that you truly are a good person. Good luck to you!

@@breanna886 wow so great to be heard and to know that there can be forgiveness and understanding for terrible mistakes. I think my lack of self forgiveness is just something that’s going to be there it’s an old tape and it’s just going to run. I noticed that it takes on different thoughts but it’s basically the same kind of anger toward myself. I got a lot of help from one thing that Eckhart Tolle said. This is really paraphrasing and putting my own spin on it, but…He said you didn’t really make the mistake. It was the pain body that made a mistake it was something in your consciousness at the time but you are the awareness and the presence not the acting out against pain from pain.

The key isn't to focus on the past. The regret is formed by not changing your future self. This is what I tell my subscribers. Fact is that most will die with regret of things they didn't do versus the things they did that were failures. Failure is far less painful than than the pain of never trying at all. Trust me on this as a former skilled nursing home provider. Everyone in their last days said the same thing--how all they did was pay bills, how they never wrote that book or saw Nepal. I can tell you that I have had massive failures of things attempted that just weren't meant to be. But I have minimal regret because I DID attempt them. And that is the key to having minimal regret in life. Everyone has regrets but they should be small. If you pursue everything you dream about--failure or not you will have a sense of at least giving it a best shot. That's the secret. Hope this helps---Charles

Thank you, subscribed. You are right to speak about regret as it is what Jesus made us. Good point. I used to feel guilty less often but since turning to Christ and church groups I have started to feel guilty more often, and you know what - it is for the better. When driving away from Jesus I feel more confident but when returning to church, the guilt comes back. At church we bring it up sometimes and our group agreed that part of faith is to celebrate our guilt, because it keeps us clean and beneath Him. Encouraging guilt is be part of our Christian culture that we inherited. I would not be ashamed of guilt as it is part of being a good Christian, and those that are not guilty might not be forgiven and thus might not reach heaven. I myself often have guilty feelings of not enough faith in God but I use this guilt to ask for forgiveness so I can be saved. I don’t think we should try to overcome our guilt but recognise it as part of being a Christian, even if it is difficult to live with. Even if we feel worse with this guilt, it I better to have it and know that we are true Christians. It brings us down, but it brings us together. Together, and down. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this video. It has helped me to address and unravel my own dilemmas that have been experiencing throughout my life. As both of you explained the process of how people remain on the carousel of despair in connection with regret, guilt, and shame, my inner child explained to me the vows (the irrational beliefs I made as a child) that kept me stuck. He also expressed the critical mistakes he did. I couldn't stop bawling. I then imagined my adult caregiving self, the one who is very loving to other people's children and popular with them, hugging my sobbing and quivering inner child cuddled on my lap. I then spoke to my inner child like how I talked with children I've worked with and acknowledged the anguish and shame I couldn't express as a child. I know the sentences may be confusing since I'm working with myself as I write. I then addressed my inner child's vows. I continued to cry as I asked why am I keeping my vows. As you prescribed, I listened and reflected his thoughts and feelings back to him. I never cried so hard. This video truly helped me do my own self-therapy. Thank you again.

She came to me in the sleeping hours And she sang to me in the moonlight: "Where did you dance when you baffled our chance, And when did the motley bells chime?" I summoned a verse from a chorus of blame, But it drowned in the ghost of her song. He came to me in the sleeping hours And he called to me in the moonlight: "Why does the fold now weep to behold, And how does it feel to be free?" I tendered the words from the tears of the same, But they dried as the dawn came upon. They came to me in the sleeping hours And they whispered to me in the moonlight: "What did you reap when you floated the keep, And whom did you trust with the key?" I buried my head in a cushion of shame - And I woke to find them all gone.

Thank you very much for the teaching. I feel a lot of guilt for even a small amount of mistakes. I will work on that. I am wondering if behavior addiction like internet overuse or porn addiction has something to with the feeling of guilt or shame.

For me "forgive" means we both know you owe me something, but the debt is cancelled as a gift. And I think forgiveness has its place. But how do you cancel your own debt? For me, that's where this teaching about acceptance really comes in. I accept I did that something that hurt you. Regardless of whether you forgive me, I don't want to do that or anything like it again. So I want to understand why I did it and how it hurt you. And that understanding begins with acceptance.

For me the word acceptance points to something ‘dryer’, and something that does not necessarily include my ‘heart’, than the word forgiveness. I believe that I can accept almost anything. If I intend to only accept and then be done with it, I believe that I may end up doing nothing about something that would have been better dealt with. I am speaking from my own experience.

Hi Hakan Jacobsson, Thanks for your comments, I don't understand why you would choose not to do something that should have been dealt with through action? Acceptance has nothing to do with what you authentically choose to do or not do. I'm unsure what the 'heart' has to do with your point about the word 'forgiveness'. David

Wu Wei Wisdom Of course, you are right that it is possible both to accept and to act. For me, accepting something has often made me stop worrying/caring so much about the matter and eventually do nothing about it. In my case I believe this has been an unexpected danger with mindfulness. I still love mindfulness and I love your teachings especially.

@@WuWeiWisdom..beautiful, thank you for pointing out that its self loving of me to be watching and trying to learn from ur videos.. ur right, I'm very disconnected frm my true self and have been as long as I can remember. I will continue trying to reconnect to myself. Not being my true self has cost me dearly, both internally and externally. I didn't realize until a few months back that I was so disconnected and I'm in my forties. But now I'm starting to see my mistakes although scared of not learning the lesson. I need to find my loving and powerful voice and self trust/worth. This same lesson I face is getting harder and harder each round. My wonderful human mind is doing a great job of trying to protect me. For that I'm grateful. It does drown out my true self though. This video was awesome for me thanks again, I'll be watching it more than once as needed.

Great video, thank you. Please can I ask a question, what if your mistake doesn't directly hurt anyone else but is very much against your gut feelings, it feels dark for example, and if other people knew about it it could change their perception of you and perhaps even hurt them in some way? In this sort of situation, would you recommend talking to those people or trying to find acceptance in yourself? Thank you :-)

I beat myself up better than most I think. Made some mistakes, upset and hurt people. I lash out when I am going through hard times. I never wanted to have a negative influence on anyone. I guess I beat myself up because I am currently very unhappy with my life. It's mainly about failed relstionships with women that have come amd gone. It's probably the lonliness that I experience and the depression I going through yet again. I honestly regret things I did in my relationships but I have also been hurt before when my exwife left me for another man. Im currently beating myself up over a relationship from last year that I could have handled differently. Sure there is a life lesson there but I punish myself soo much that I had go back to meds for depression and sleep. Now I know why people commit suicide. They are lonely and live with regret and can't live with themselves. Sure I can be more upbeat in the hopes that things will improve but Im demoralized by my choices and I can only go by my past. Sometimes I feel like I have messed up to the point of no return. The losses with love and business are mostly because of poor decisions on my part. Im not a bad person but regrets are piling up. Some are the result of bad luck but not much. I need a miracle or a change in fortunes to get my life back and be happy.

What about truly evil people. How does this apply to them? How does a person get ride of shame that was caused due to a perpetrator?

Who defines 'truly evil' people? Is there judgement here? The word perpetrator implies a victim too. I have very slowly, tried to take total responsibility and not to keep looking back at actions performed by others who were not conscious at all. Possibly also suffering too.

"And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire." (REVELATION 20:12-15 NKJV) Today, while you are still alive and able, may you repent from your sins, believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that JESUS CHRIST is your Lord and Savior, so that through Him, your name will be written in the Book of Life. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever BELIEVES in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." (JOHN 3:16-17 NKJV) By God's GRACE, the gift of Salvation and Eternal Life is available to all. You can RECEIVE it. You can REJECT it. May you choose wisely..✝️
