This is a very important lesson! The highly successful men I know all have insanely strong mental fortitude. Learning how to deal with trauma puts men on the right track

Total respect for what this man is saying. Born again in my 40s, quite rare according to Pew. One of the best sermons I ever heard was on a verse about even now. The man & his wife had lost a young child & his family was falling apart. When God placed the idea that even now in ANY situation, God can give you peace & purpose, he followed that idea & his family was restored & it changed him in a positive way in the end. And like drag racing it’s how the race ends not how it begins. -Matt’s dad

Sounds like pastor Foster honestly did everything he could possibly do throughout the years to help his younger brother recover from his drug addiction. I definitely respect that, as very few people nowadays genuinely care about anyone else besides themselves (even including their own siblings). I know it's easy for me to say this, but I don't think that the pastor should feel guilty in the slightest. Ultimately, the responsibility is on each individual to take personal accountability over their own lives and you gave him all the supportive nudging you could.

There's no way to truly help someone rid themselves of a drug addiction. Support is all you can provide, but that's not addressing the root cause and you can't take decisions on someone's behalf forever. An addiction to drugs is both intensely physiological and deeply personal. It's one of the most difficult things in life to overcome. It's a slow death, primal and demonic and zombifying. No one outside of the addict themselves can stop the addict from acting on his self-destructive desires, not even if they lock the addict into some space for months in order to keep them away from drugs. The struggle would continue when the addict eventually leaves. The addict requires constant vigilance and a completely new life; new friends, new locations, new ways of thinking and acting, new everything to even have a chance of overcoming the recurring urges, every one of them a separate battle. The desire never truly goes away in most cases. Most success stories in this realm involve discovering God. He is the only being mighty enough to truly help someone struggling with drug addiction. The rest of us can only provide support, but support is as good as nothing if the addict doesn't will the change themselves.

I feel sorry for the brother in this story, but unfortunately drug addiction decreases frontal lobe development and executive function. It’s good to find ways to increase those instead.

Pastor Foster, yes, 2+2 does equal 4. But, how and why does 1+1+1=1?!

@@jbohnoff That is rather subjective. Some people find certain things, doctrines, concepts... confusing, yet others don't. I can imagine that the nature of God is not straight forward. 1 Corinthians 14:33 does not refer to doctrine, but rather to order in a church, as indicated in the verses before and those after.
@jbohnoff
@jbohnoff Жыл бұрын
@@yochananandreas3148 I wasn't talking about the nature of God, rather, the concept of his oneness. God is One, and there is only One God. There are no other Gods but God. Simple. Easy. Perfect!

@@jbohnoff Indeed, the on triune God. Unfathomable (impossible to fully comprehend or explain), independent (does not need creation to love or communicate, unlike unitarian gods who depend on cretures for those things), unique and superior (at the level of existence far above temporal, material three-dimensional creatures). The only God worthy of worship and admiration, wouldn't you agree? ;-)

Must be nice to be able to believe in that Bible stuff. I’m an ecologist, so none of that will ever resonate with me. I think the religionists tend to have more successful marriages is because they believe in a higher purpose. I also think that’s why marriage counseling has such an abysmal failure rate. Modern marriage emphasizes feelings instead of the purpose.

That’s one of the dumbest thing you can say. So what about the severe sexual abuse men sustain as a young boy which gets locked away due to compartmentalization!or your wife gets severely beaten and raped. Or watching your boys getting slaughtered in war or you get in a car accident which is your fault tha leaves the car mangled and dead bodies about! Real men acknowledge trauma and work through it share it and move on.
