“To be Americanized is to erase a lot of your own heritage in order to stay safe or feel as if you are part of the culture that is predominant in your region,” he said. “And in my case, I feel like I’ll always mourn not being able to know Chinese because growing up, if I had learned Chinese when I was a baby, I think I would have been able to retain it and understand it.”

I'm also from Pennsylvania! I live in a somewhat city called Johnstown! I love your videos, it's such an inspiration to me because of your struggles and being a minority in so many ways, and yet making yourself a majority! Mentally, you're sharing your voice and helping people who are deaf, trans, gender-queer, and Jewish, and Chinese. The diversity is flowing through you my man and were glad to have someone like you not letting any of those things hold you back in this hard society, and instead embrace your self for all the beautiful puzzle pieces within you. For people like you, and me and so many others were a majority together! Keep it up! ❤

I reli feel connected with your video... I was an Asian gay kid at a local British school. Although lgbt is pretty ok in the uk but I felt that it’s ‘NOT for Asian’ coz all my asian friends would always hide their sexual identity (worst is that some need to pretend to be homophobic in order to prove themselves straight, so basically if u come out u would get discriminated) I felt like I wasn’t accepted in both white/Asian groups which completely messed up my high school social life. It only got better towards the end of my undergrad after I told my family/friends and I started to travel around to know come new lgbt friends, but it could have been better if I didn’t need to face that race + lgbt stigma at school like they have a double effect on kids that many people don’t realize it can happen. Thanks for sharing!

I think that all of the labels and backgrounds that people are part of can be so empowering for many people, while also confusing and isolating when you don’t fit into the “options” presented in society, or are disconnected from your ancestral roots.

To those of you who want to know what the money scandal was AND the aftermath: Chella wanted to help artists, hospitality and s*x workers who were affected by COVID-19 by asking his followers to donate money to him and he would distribute the money to these individuals that were impacted. He also mentioned that he would randomly call some people who donated, probably as an incentive to donate. Many people felt that was wrong of him to do because he’s a “multi-millionaire” and he should’ve donated his own money to these people instead of asking for money from his followers. Others think he pocketed the money because he never addressed any follow ups or replied to people’s concerns. Many people who are still upset at him, have not done their own research to find that he had addressed this already on his Twitter earlier this month in May. And here’s my personal opinion on it: Chella may have been in a TV show, has modeled, sells his art and has had his art on clothing, so it could be seen as though he is rich and a millionaire. Just because someone’s net worth is a million or is in the millions, does not mean they have millions of dollars in their possession. We don’t know if he truly has the money, used his money to help people he knows who are struggling such as friends and family, has silently donated to charities or helped fund events, we simply do not know. We are not him, we are not around him, so we don’t know where his money goes. I’d like to believe he’s used his money for good because before this scandal he has shown a lot of care and dedication for the trans and deaf community. He is literally all about community and helping each other. There were no other issues other than this scandal. And now that this scandal happened everyone is so quick to judge and cancel him without properly thinking about everything. People read about the scandal and automatically think he’s already guilty of not helping the people he said he would but in his tweet he shows screenshots of payment to people and clears up what he originally intended to do and apologized. People want apologies until they get it, then they don’t want it anymore. It doesn’t make sense. Why should this mistake define all the other amazing accolades he’s done for the trans and deaf community? He had good intentions and he’s shown no other side of himself other than being a representation for those in the LGBTQ community and deaf community. He already addressed it on his twitter and there’s no need to constantly have him talk about it. I understand some people didn’t know he already addressed it, but think about it, if these people really truly cared about whether or not Chella apologized, don’t you think they should look it up on their own? If they’re truly mad about there being no update, I would think they would want to constantly search for one. People just like to judge quickly and keep that judgement regardless of whether the situation has cleared or not. People just like to hold onto bad things since it’s easier than admitting they were wrong themselves. I think Chella has done so much for our communities and representing us. He’s never shown to be malicious or pretentious and I’ve seen a lot of people bashing him saying he thinks he’s better than us, like what? When has he ever shown that? Just because he’s an artist and has been on a show and modeled, like what? Just because you feel a disconnect with him doesn’t mean everyone else should. I personally still feel just as invested in Chella as when he first started on KZfaq. I’m proud of him. I’ll continue to root for him because he deserves it. Let’s not be envious or jealous and keep wanting the best for each other. That’s my opinion on it all.

no reason to put multi-millionaire in quotes though lmfao... you're allowed to still support him if you want, but you shouldn't pretend that there's some mystery about whether or not he has money: he is a very rich person and that is an incredibly relevant factor in this situation.
@scenechaosqueen
@scenechaosqueen 4 жыл бұрын
@@virg0_lem0nade He's had deals and appearances, but like I stated in my paragraph, we don't know what he does with the money. He could've helped out family members or his friends who are within the community and less fortunate. People who need surgeries or hospital bills paid. We don't know what he does with his money. He could've donated some of his own money to those impacted by COVID as well and we don't know. There's been lots of people with money, famous or not, who donate and don't share that they donated because they just want to help out and don't want the recognition. I didn't mean for my opinion to come off as to whether he has money or not, what I meant was there is mystery as to what he does with it. All we can do is speculate since we aren't him. My speculation only has the proof of his background of always doing good deeds which is why I said it's out of character for him to do something malicious. I hoped I cleared it up well lol.

I am half black and half white. Although I do not face as much racism as others I've still been told I'm a half breed, or I've listened to a hate speech about people like me who are black and white to my face. I've been told to pick being black or pick being white. Those things don't get easier because it's so shocking to me that people to this day cannot get past skin color. This is why I try extra hard to be nice and polite to minority groups so if they experienced racism that day they can experience the kindness that I offered

I think lately my biggest issue has been not struggling to fit in, but rather struggling to STAND OUT. These days, esp with the immense rise of social media, if you're not "individualistic" or "unique" its hard to feel seen, validated, and you just feel like a nobody. I think the more pressing issue is overcoming the feeling of having to promote oneself to others and be recognized by others in order to feel valuable.

btw, for anyone wondering what the "money controversy" is: Chella Man is literally a multi-millionaire, and he put out tweets and instagram posts telling his poor and disabled fans to pay him money during the covid crisis... the reason he was asking for money is because he was claiming he was going to offer his emotional support, in the form of personal phone calls, to a randomly selected few of the people who paid him... and then on top of all that: he never even did the phone calls or anything! he just took all the money and then shut down the comments on his instagram so that nobody could ask him about it!

That’s a rlly biased way of putting it, he was trying to fundraise for people struggling bc he has a platform the way a lot of celebrities are you can disagree and be upset with him for his methods and that he didn’t call fans for sure he made a commitment, but to say all his fans are poor and that he’s doing something wrong by asking people if they can donate is kind of judgmental you don’t know what he does with his money privately if he posted about every time he put his money and energy toward a cause people could get upset and say he was doing it for props and publicity and he has a huge fan base so idk why you would assume that a majority of the people who support him don’t have any disposable income to give I just don’t see how that’s info you would have like do you have some socioeconomic follower demographics that we don’t know about? Lol this is way too long I just wanted to say he DID put up receipts and fully apologize on Twitter so idk just let’s try not to judge and make assumptions yk

My guy, I would've been your best friend and never out "Asian" in front of it. I am a South American person who hasn't *really* been bullied for this manner but it was very annoying when (white) students tried to relate to me by speaking nonsense "Como la nfnrfkfn", "njnfwkfjn, eh?", "Yo taco bleh bluh.." etc.. I don't really know if it was bullying, per se- but it was constant and it made me want to cry. EDIT: I remember over-hearing some students talking about me and one of them even called me, "one of those Spanish kids.." bitch, what? Stay strong, man. o((>ω< ))o
