Gracias Lance! Mis respetos

Hello from Norway. Discovered the throw out bearing was stuck after i had put in a new pressure plate and clutch, so every finger on it was smashed. Could not really spot it as the bearing was moving freely and appeared to be allright when i turned it prior to assembling the tractor after the the clutch was set in. So, allways change out the bearing when the clutch is due to be changed! It's a easy swap. Anyway, thanks for really good work. It has helped me in getting my grandfathers 1949 TEA 20 back in service after being left in the barn for 27 years.

G'day Lance good idea to put these into two videos. Those Sparex clutch plates do really look the go and are well made. That orange grease mate nearly thought it was going to end up every ware, seriously Lance these were very interesting videos, you explained the processes very well and especially how to pull and put one together, these videos your doing would be a god send to anyone restoring a TE20 good one regards John

Great video again. I was wondering, just for the info: At our farm years ago, we had a Massey Ferguson 135 from 1968. When there was a big load behind the tractor, and you release the clutch pedal, the tractor starts bouncing/shaking . It also is shaking with no load behind, butt less hard. It looked very funny haha, but where does that come from? Is that a problem somewhere in the clutch? There were no weird sounds.

G Day Ron, The jumping can often be a sign of oil on the clutch plate making it sticky so it grabs and slips again until the peddle is fully out.

Hi Lance, again another very helpful video! I thought I was finished with my tractor, but my clutch failed me. Seemed like a suction issue. I've split it and took out the clutch. I noticed one of my clips is broken where it attaches to the plate. I am leaning to purchasing a new clutch as I use the tractor on my small farm and it has been out of action for a while now. Can you purchase the clips? I really don't want to take it all apart again, so I need to get it right.

G Day Danny, I would think you might need to split the tractor and replace the ring gear but I would also check the number of teeth on the old one versus the new one. I have found the odd different one in the past.

Hello Lance, London calling again, well somewhere in rural England actually; Isle of Wight at the moment. Previously I asked you if were considering splitting a tractor to change the clutch. I was just interested to see how you would carry out the ‘split’ without the correct rigs. Are you intending to video this within any of your current restoration projects? Keep on the good work. Until next time…England out. As always, thank you for taking the time to post your videos.

Nice work! I checked some of the service Manuals out there and the Ferguson one has a template (CG192), no numbers. Another book says "the finger thrust bearing face is 3/16" below the face of the cover... and needs to be within 0.010in.". And another "The release levers are set so that the bearing contact surface of the levers are 1-15/16in. from the face of the flywheel." I believe your change in measure is due to wear in the lever and the refinishing of the bearing face. Also I may have missed it but was the disc a new or old one ? These are really great videos, thanks
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 6 жыл бұрын
G Day Robert, The disk was a new one for all of the finger height tests and the same plate for all of the tests. My manual doesn't give a height but states fingers need to be 0.005" max difference so I supposed things just evolved over time with the clutches. I have seen the finger height gauges but I don't have measurements but thinking back some of the I&T manuals may have had something in them. This is all very interesting for me.

Right! Forgot that one. The 1990 Ferguson I&T book I have, page 16, under figure F28 cross section: "Model TE20, Borg & Beck model 9A6 clutch. Adjust release levers to 3/16 inch measurement as shown." The photo shows lines between the finger and the cover.

I'd say I'll need to overhaul my clutch in my tef. When I let out the cutch slowly it hops and jumps around the place and is quite sharp. But whats odd is sometimes it's fine. Finger broken?
@BundyBearsShed

Sometimes they are like that cold but when you get them warm and slip them a bit they come good. Often a sign of oil on the clutch plate.

G’day from sunny Scotland! Just got my first TE20 (1947) she’s been converted to Standard TVO engine at some point in her life. She was driving when delivered, but sat for 2 days and now clutch will not release! Adjusted pedal free play but still no clutch! Had starter out and there is some oil and dirt in the bell housing. Is there anything I should check before I break out the big spanners ??

Hi Lance, Great Videos as usual Just a question, Iam replacing the the clutch and pressure plate on my TEA-20. I want to use the input shaft to line up the clutch and im replacing input shaft seal anyway. My question is if I pull out the input shaft are there any shims that are going to fall into the transmission once the input shaft is pulled out? The reason I ask is another youtuber's video thought there could be. Anyway thanks for your help with all your videos. Regards Richard
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 3 жыл бұрын
No any shims would be on the front housing holding the shaft in. Not a problem that I have had as yet anyhow.

Thank You Lance, I have now fitted the new pressure plate. It's a Bareco pressure plate and the finger bolts and nuts look like the same ones in your video lock nuts i think you said they were (they have little indentations around then, not peened but factory marked). I have around 1mm or 40" difference in finger height, the manual states 0.39mm or 15" max difference. I want to adjust the lowest finger as you instructed someone else to do. My question is: With those locking type nuts on the pressure plate, do you just wind the nut in or out without adding locktite once the correct measurement is reached or do i need to peen the thread a bit so the nut doesnt move again or add loctite? as these are set at the factory and I want to do this tomorrow and put the tractor back together if i can Thanks for your help Lance.

@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 2 жыл бұрын
Tie the clutch pedal down, then try and get the tractor running in a high gear and jump on and off the brakes and at times it will free up. With the engine off you can try with a big spanner on the pto as well. If you do get it free slip it and try and heat up the plate and burn any rust or grease off the plate. Sometimes none of this works and you need to split the machine.
