Untamed..when I lift it helps me to imagine that there is a maniac pointing a loaded gun at me screaming that if I dont hit the f@#king weights hard as f@#k I'll be splattered like yesterday's pancake syrup all over the f@#king wall..I believe that in one of his more recent lifts Mateusz Kiewiskoski practiced a similar visualization..

Nice video, very useful films especially for beginners. I wish I had access to material like this when I started lifting. Also, this could qualify as overhead lifting/ beard cleaning.

***** I don't think that is that rare. Overhead pressing well takes very good technique and no matter how strong most start with just the bar until form is down. So, most start with a higher seated military press than overhead press so don't feel strange.

Alan Thrall Awesome videos, Alan, especially your How To: Squat, How To: Warm Up and Your Back Is A Whack have changed my life. And I see now what to improve when doing my OHP. Your videos are well made, educational as hell, you address every little (but imporant) detail, they're funny, music is perfect, easily one of the best fitness channels on YT. Subscribed and ready to watch all your videos. Keep doing what you're doing. Thumbs up!

I love the way you explain the workouts. It's so easy to understand, you get straight to the points of the right and wrong ways. Other trainers talk way too much and only show you once and then don't highlight the most common mistakes and give corrections that are easily understood. These videos help me so much with my workouts. Thanks!

Instantly went from 55kg to 65kg using this. Also oddly felt like I had more energy for each rep during sets. Using the lats as a starting point each time definely conserves energy and I dont feel as weak at the start of each rep. Awesome videos.

This is fantastic, I had an immediately better OH press session just because I moved my body around the bar and sunk my hips. Something I picked up on while training is that to get the bar to move straight up and not push it back behind you, think about pushing the top parts of your fists to the ceiling. It helps keep the bar over the midline and get a better push

This video is amazing! I've watched a handful of videos on the OHP (Omar Isuf, Buff Dudes, Strengthcamp, Stronglifts and Flexforall2) but not one has given me the thumb-shoulder placement and explained about resting on my lats! I've done 1000+ OHPs since I started lifting in January and I've never felt it lock in so perfectly. I also liked the initial view, since I don't think I've been driving it back far enough (like bench press) once I clear my head.

Excellent tutorial. Two things: 1) it’s possible to wrap the thumb around the bar and keep a straight wrist. It’ll feel awkward at first, but it can be done with practice. I honestly don’t think the thumbless grip is a safety hazard because anyone who’s used it knows the bar isn’t going anywhere, but the thumb around is still superior because it allows a more secure “bulldog” grip to get more torque from the elbow to the wrist. 2) a slight dip at the knees to absorb the impact at the bottom can help substantially with heavier weights, but be sure to pause the bar on the chest and reset before pressing again. Don’t bounce or spring out of this knee movement and turn the strict press into a weak push press.
