US Special Ops units own the night. How? Yes, they have the best NVDs that tax payers' money can buy; but it is also because they train in the dark A LOT.
I have always enjoyed training in the dark. As a young RECON scout, the darkness allowed me to get in close and escape without being followed. As a Green Beret, the darkness offered the best time to hit our enemy, and the most advantages. I love the dark. I am comfortable in the dark. The Dark is my Friend.
So, this week, I wanted to answer a few questions about night shooting, from some of our viewers and students; and I wanted to show my Favorite Night Shooting Drills. I hope you enjoy the video and learn a little also. If you have never had the chance to shoot with NVDs; well, you need to add that to your Bucket List.
For the viewers that are gonna bitch that I "Shoot Too SLOW"... Yep, if you want fast shooting, go to a Pew Pew channel. I'm just a "Former Action Guy" trying to make the world a better place by sharing my knowledge and experiences. We are human here, not hollywood. We even show "misses" in our videos when they happen.
A special and sincere "Thanks" to the team at The NightVisionGuys.com, for supporting Tactical Rifleman and for getting our viewers the best prices available. They didn't pay us a dime to make this video, but really do jump through hoops for us when we need help with NVDs.
If you love our FREE videos and still haven't joined Patreon, you are shitting in our mouths. KZfaq has greatly cut back the pay outs for video ads, and they quickly demonetize many of our videos as soon as we release them. These videos are free for you, but often incur significant costs, from renting ranges to buying gear to buying ammo. Add flights & travel, lodging & meals, added with hours of editing; and the film crew has a lot invested in this. So, for the cost of a cup of foo foo coffee, you can support us by going to Patreon and clicking to support Tactical Rifleman. Many Perks, like War Stories, Q&As, and private Live Streams. For those of you that are already Patrons; from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much. We plan a great 2020 for Tactical Rifleman; and your support will be a big part of it.

When they teach people to use a keyboard they put a towel over the students hands and the board so that they can't look at the keys and search for them, so that the student has to learn to type the correct way by remembering where the keys are and learning how to correctly type with proper form and finger position. First thing they will tell you is that if you have to look at the keyboard to find the keys you are doing it wrong and need to learn how to do it proper. Eventually it is natural and automatic, a learned skill of dexterity and flow, if you learn to do it right. A good non combat analogy of learning to use your gear and employ it without looking at it like some sort of goof. Even those without night vision or a low light training area for shooting should use darkness to train with their weapons and gear. Everyone should know where their shit is and how to grab it without methodically needing to look for it, look at the item as it is being retrieved, and stare at it like a dumbfounded caveman as it is being loaded/used. Like the keyboard, if it isn't natural, deft, flowing, something you do automatically while you pay attention to real business, you are doing it wrong. Someone running through their gear and empty magazines through the weapon with a blindfold or in the dark may seem stupid, but so does the whole covering the typing student's hands so he can't look at his board. The whole "I can disassemble and reassemble my weapon blindfoled in X seconds" seems like movie cliche nonsense to some, but if you CAN do it, it means you really are familiar with your kit. Another key reason why capable men can function in the dark isn't just night vision (which is very useful), but also the fact the man is in shape and can function well without looking at every damn thing he carries. Thanks for making these videos.

@TacticalRifleman
@TacticalRifleman 3 жыл бұрын

@wildcat8598
@wildcat8598 2 жыл бұрын
I would almost argue that a monocular is better than duals in the sense that you get the naked eye as well. Of course you can look outside or under duals but having one eye naked helps with depth as well. If I’m in nothing but dark of course I’d rather have duals like PVS31’s but nothing wrong with a single Gen3 PVS14 at all. Money is also well spent with the mount and j arm. Being able to move the device multiple ways to adjust it to your eye and having an articulating arm where you can swing it up out of the way or to either eye is a good thing as well. Most importantly is double retention so your brand new expensive toy doesn’t take a spill and/or get lost. Lanyards are your friend with a NV device!!

@TacticalRifleman 4 жыл бұрын
I have spent my whole military career behind a M-4 (AR) or SR-25 (AR) in both training and Combat. All my "Muscle Memory" is with the ergonomics of the AR. So, of course, I'm going to stick with an AR. Go with what you know. Thanks for watching, TR

@@TacticalRifleman I thought you also used a Beretta SMG at one point? I may be confusing you with some other guys though, as I can't remember what you said when you were explaining the choice (if that was you, of course).
@DaveSmith-cp5kj
@DaveSmith-cp5kj 3 жыл бұрын
They are pretty much both the same in practical effectiveness, on par with a handgun. Personally if I couldn't choose a rifle I would go with as small and light of a 9mm platform unless it was silenced (only benefit of a SMG aside from a cheap trainer alternative to an AR IMO is that you can comfortably put large silencers on to really reduce noise). I really like the MAC (M11) guns, and stocked glocks. MAC is better if you are going to run a stock though because the tilting barrel of the glock makes the whole setup flop around to the point that you almost could do just as well just using the glock without a stock. If you have an AR I would go for a 9mm AR since it will be cheaper, and you will have a platform to train with since you can cast bullets and handload 9mm for about 1/4 the cost of 5.56. But the flip side to that coin is that you can buy a 300 blackout upper for the same price as a 9mm upper but you don't need new magazines, and you can handload them with cast bullets for as cheap as 9mm, and blackout is a far more effective round in sub and supers than handgun ammo (subs more effective because the bullet has a chance to tumble when it strikes bone in a target)

Karl, do you always use the slingshot method over the slide release/lick lever or the over the top method? Why do you prefer each one?
@TacticalRifleman
@TacticalRifleman 4 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. Actually, I usually just hit the Slide Release with my thumb. Preferences for each method show up by situation. Example: If it is cold and I'm wearing gloves; my body always uses the Slingshot method. It's muscle memory... I don't chose, my body just does it's own thing. That's when you know you have become truly familiar with a firearm... it is truly an extension of your body. Thanks for watching, TR
