Hi! Your painting was beautiful! I loved how the bird gradually came to life! I had a question for you that I hope you can help me with. I really liked your layering and the colors you chose. I'm thinking of painting a scissor-tailed fly catcher on a project I'm working on for someone. I've painted before, but I am in no way an expert. What colors would you reccomend for this bird??? Thanks!

Thanks for lovely words...most importantly this vedio helped you.. Tail should be a mixture of ivory black+prussian blue and zinc white. Head area titaniym white and off course shadow. Also body area should be a mix of orange+burnt umber..may be little late to reply..also you can check out my latest bird painting..you will get more clue..

I know the anatomy of majority of birds in my area. Know how to paint. I do not always paint First my background. For me I search, the areas the specie of bird lives in. Reason why, the bird is I want to do is reliable, but where it breeds, the surrounding colors change where they are seen, and harder for me to get in the Lady Slippers, Fire Pinks, Trillium the bird may breed in. I like your brush strokes, bit too fast for beginners, to know the placement of the feathers.in the wings, body shape. Enjoy that you give the European Robin information about it. I am 75 doing once again what I had done when younger, now that I have the time, and art supplies. Past all supplies were stolen. and notes.

Sap green, burnt Sienna, burnt umber, cadmium red, titanium white, zinc white, imperial blue, ivory black, yellow ocre, orange part is a mix of cad red + lemon yellow..hope that helps...and all the best......
