Never run the pressure washer dry. If it’s running the trigger should be pulled even if it’s pointed straight up. When starting pull trigger to relieve pressure. When moving pressure washer around the job site remove the hoses. It’s worth the 60 seconds.

I've been doing painting recently and it's a tough and physical job. The actual painting is the easiest but people don't realize a lot more goes into painting a house, especially very tall ones. It's a tough job. Painters have my respect. And it's definitely not for the faint of heart if you don't like heights

Thank you so much for this very informative video! After trying in vain to find a local contractor to paint my 77 year old house, I decided to do it myself (in spite of being 77 years old myself and only 4'11" tall.). I started in mid-August and gave myself 3 months to complete the job, since the house needed lots of scraping and sanding, I'm doing it in my spare time (and need frequent "arthritis breaks"). I'm in the home stretch now, and all your tips were invaluable. I didn't try to spray it, since I had no experience using a sprayer, and since the house has a huge amount of trim work. I was envious seeing how much time can be saved with a sprayer, so if I need to repaint when I am in my 80's, maybe I'll give spraying a try then. :) Thanks again, I couldn't have done it without you!

I’d be interested in learning about one small part of your sales walkthrough. How do you talk about the paint with your customer? Do you recommend colors and various types of paint? Does the customer already know which paint they would like? Do you try to stick to certain paints and allow the customer to pick the color? What’s the conversation like with your initial walkthrough? There’s is too many paints out there. And thanks for the videos. I can tell you are clearly one of the best. Your patience and ability to work and create these videos.. you make it look effortless. Very impressive.

Never ever help a customer pick a paint color. After the job is done and they don't like the colors you helped them choose they can sometimes want you to repaint it for free because you told them it would look good.

I just want to say that I'm glad to see that you're using a Titan 410 because that's what I have, though I've felt that I would have prefered having a Titan 440. I'm no professional and feel that the store salesman kinda talked me into the 410 when I initially wanted a 440. Anyway it worked as I painted my house last year but see where I have a couple areas to touch up this year.

As a painting pro… I love watching your channel and find different ways of doing things.. hey Idaho painter.. when your doing your interior doors here’s something I do after sanding.. I dust them off then vacuum them then I take it a extra step and use a tack rag.. the reason why I tack rag is bc it absolutely grabs any dust left. Awesome stuff to use.. give it a try on cabinets to! You’ll love the outcome !

For straining, I tape the strainer on the bucket with it about 6-8" up from the bottom inside. Cut a small hole at the top near the seam and insert intake tube. If you have a bigger job, just keep pouring it in as needed and you keep your hands clean.

Very detailed, thanks for the video. One tip I would give anyone, don't buy cheap caulk, and always, always, always have something to clean up with. I typically use OSI urethane caulking when I need a good caulk that is paintable. Silicone won't hold paint at all, urethane does. A cheaper alternative is latex with silicone added. That is also appropriate for something you need to paint, but do not ever trust latex paint outside. The lifespan of latex plus silicone is 3-5 years. Urethane lasts much longer. 10+ years, depending on weather. It even holds up in a shower very well. It outlasts silicone, but it is very sticky, and hard to clean up. So you need goof off or thinner, and I typically use latex gloves. Occasionally on big gaps you will need soapy water to smooth it as well. Something like 100 parts water, 1 part soap in a spray bottle. You need to caulk the whole gap, before spraying with soapy water, as it won't stick after its wet. Once you get good with a caulk gun, you will barely need to touch small gaps, big gaps you will need to tool it off. Caulking properly is very involved, and it's good to see someone actually cover it in detail. There are guys that only do caulking, especially on commercial jobs, waterproofing and caulking, sometimes glazing. Precast concrete and glazing jobs like a storefront, you can charge 2 bucks a foot plus materials, easily, as some of the gaps are 2 inches wide on precast installs and you need backer rod, a boom lift, buckets of caulk, etc etc. It's a big ordeal and worth tens of thousands of dollars on commercial buildings. Anyhow, I'm rambling, but thanks for the video, all the best.

It’s just thorough and properly prepping (while caulking) and not cutting corners….. I’ve sometimes taken 2 full days before water finally ran clear while pouring over my hamburger raw meat, smear fanger… I said it…. What?? Always running a tight ship cod, I like that ooh rah attention to detail stuff though…. cant help it… born at the island and went back to further my education in attention to detail annnnnd my ol man, uncles and grandad ALLLL professional painters. I’ll be ordering in the very near future from you a spray gun whip… Im itching to work with one and break in my new sprayer ang gun that rivaled the price of the entire sprayer, which i modified my generic 4 finger spray gun into a 2 finger sprayer, which I owe ALLL the credit to your vids and expertise here on the tube…. You sorta made painting not so mundane and redundant and dare I say, “Interestingly therapeutic and………Fun?????!!!!" AS YOU WERE, HARD CHARGER!!!

Thanks for all the very valuable information! I do house soft washing part time, and I'm learning from you about painting. May I suggest that you don't use high pressure while cleaning the exterior? A pump up garden sprayer with 50/50 pool chlorine and water goes a very long way on cleaning a house. You can realistically use a garden hose to rinse it down

with only a couple different techniques, I would paint that house exactly like you did. Which is weird because if you get 12 painters, they have 12 different ways of doing the same thing, as you know, I'm sure. I've been a licensed painting contractor since 1995 in CT, CA, and now in FL. I've been subscribed since you started: Great Videos, keep at it and maybe some self described "painters" might just learn to do things the right way.

I'm not the cable guy or an electrical, but I can vouch for that hole in just about every home we re-side. It takes a $10 tube of caulk and 30 seconds. No excuse for siding installers, they should have the color match on hand. Homeowners should check theirs and call back which ever service, serviced that spot last.

Excellent video, thank you for taking the time to put it together. I really appreciate your willingness to share tips that help painters be more efficient, and earn a fair living, while also advocating for the best final product that can possibly be delivered to their customers. I had one question about the pressure washing, I noticed although you start at top and work down with gravity, you are aiming nozzle upwards at approximately 45 degree angle. Could this push water into places it's not supposed to go, causing issues later? Or is this a standard way to "soft wash" an exterior prior to painting? I understand the alternative, aiming the nozzle down, would require a ton more ladder/scaffold/lift time, but curious on your opinion.

Your spot on about washing down never go at an angle better still get up there with the timber and hand scrub it after all you don't wash your pots at home by running the tap over them .Also using caulk is not recommended on exterior surface as its water based and will break down even if over painted.

Exterior sheathing (the wood behind the sideing) is water resistant and can easily handle occasional water, so getting some water behind the siding is acceptable.

Exterior rated caulk. I use PL Window Door & Siding Sealant. There are many good exterior caulks.

3500 sq ft? I'm thinking 5k-ish. Maybe more, especially now days. Full caulk would be quite a bit more. Or just in general if the prep was harder. This house is in quite good shape so didn't need too much prep, even tho he did a good bit of it, it was on the easier side imo.

This is great information!! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this for us! I would love to try this myself but I have a very large, high two-story home and it makes me nervous to get up to those high places. How much should I expect to pay someone to do this for me (ballpark)?

Nappy or diaper bags are cheap and will fit around ceiling spot lights or sockets while spraying.

I’m also a professional painter, but would never have considered taking on such a large project myself, especially since I don’t like doing exteriors. You gave me the confidence to do it. Thanks Chris. 🙏

I'm a solo painter-20+yrs, the majority of my work is exteriors like this. I always have 2-3 shields ready so I don't have to stop. And always, always strain your paint before loading in the sprayer.
