Now, this is how you paint a cloud. Bravo! I like to use a small filbert Tintoretto synthetic brush(I believe they are meant for watercolor mainly) just to cut a bit from blending time.

Thanks a lot :-) Yeah, I simply love to paint clouds, can`t even tell why except that it`s just so satisfying when they all of a sudden start to look real :-) Perhaps I just try those filberts too one day, have to admit I stick heavily to the flats.

I really like this tutorial, how you show giving depth to the cloud. I’m having trouble with it only because I’m not doing one big cloud, I have 6-7 small clouds in a sky above a field (using your grass video fir this) which will eventually be home to a teal tree. When I use your technique, the variation of color overtakes the clouds, it would be extremely helpful if you could do a video with a couple of small clouds, identifying the brushes and colors you use. Terms you already use work well, ex. I blended light gray with a medium blue or a dark blue with dark gray. Im truly just a beginner so as much detail as you can give in your instructions will help me and others like me even more. Thank you for sharing your skills with the world.

How many months or years did it take for you to excel in painting realistic clouds? This is incredible.
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot :-))) I`ve been painting on and off for nearly 30 years now, but I had at least 10 years where I was so frustrated of the art industry that I quit painting completely. So...hard to say how many years I really spent on painting clouds especially as I only just recently (if at all a couple of years) started to step away from fantasy art to fine art and trying to paint a cloud not just as an addition to the wizard fighting the dragon ;-)))) But once you grasped the principle of seeing and understanding what you see on your reference material, mixing the colour in the correct tone and value, getting on the shape and applying the colour in the right way you basically can paint anything. But it still takes practice to really know how the colours behave, what surface you should paint on, what brushes you need, how much you need to thin down the colour etc. - so learning to paint takes a couple of years to get to a decent level. Getting better after that takes even longer, honing all the little things you do wrong to end up one day with an excellent painting. It all depends heavily on your will to invest the time on the easel. That`s something you NEED to do no matter how many painting courses you do.

Beautiful and nicely explained. - question - which colour of blue did you use. And which colour of blue best represents the sky in summer?
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 4 ай бұрын
I use for all of my paintings just one blue tone - and that is Phthalo Blue...you can mix in ANY other colour to get to the exact blue tone you want to paint - really no need to buy 25 different blue shades, one is really enough to do the job when you know how to mix in the other colours to adjust accordingly :-)

Thank you so much :-))) I apply the first layer, the underpainting (if I do an underpainting) and let this layer rest until it is bone dry. Nice! Why do you do acrylic under? Why not start with the white canvas or with medium coated camvas?
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 3 жыл бұрын
My experience is, that darker colours, like the one from the back, tend to "loose" their colourwise apperance when you don`t underpaint. With that I mean, that the colours you INTEND to apply don`t appear the way you want them to appear on the painting surface because the white interferes too much, is too strong NOT to interfer with the layer of colour that you apply. Hope you get what I mean ;-)

Which colours did you use?? how did you get all those shades for the clouds? This is the BEST cloud making video ever, please show us your palette and the mixing when you paint!!!!

I use Winsor&Newton water mixable oil colours - I love them, no need for unhealthy mediums any more, just oil in case I need to delay the drying time, that`s it :-) And thanks a lot for your nice words :-))) This encourages me to do more detailed tutorials in the future (already painted another cloud painting tutorial which will be out soon :-) And the second camera is planned, I hope I can get one soon and imply the shots from this one (filming the palette) into the next videos as soon as possible.

@@raffahotmail6944 Thank you Raffa :-) I will do my best (need to find a camera that is not too expensive, got a tight budget) - please have some patience - and please don`t forget that I have at least 4 videos coming up without any additional footage from the second camera. But I will do my best to add this feature ASAP :-)

Well appreciated do you think it can be use the technique in watercolor?
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you :-))) Watercolour might be a bit difficult - you would have to work in layers, because watercolour does not really allow to blend the colours as do the oils that I used here. I have a link in the description box to the water mixable oils that I use, perhaps you might want to give them a try?

fantastic!! ...approximately how long would this painting take you in real time?
@brennerfineart

Thanks a lot :-))) I would say it took me roughly (including underpainting, background and finishing the painting) around 4-6 hours I would guess.

Hi there, what blues do you use in your cloud mixes.. thanks. A video on that what be great.
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I`m using most of the time a combination of Phthalo blue, french ultramarin and cobalt blue as a base to start with. Additional titanium white and lamp black of course is added if needed. And according to the light situation I might also add dioxazine purple, cadmium red and/or raw sienna/burnt umber.

Beautiful!! Do you paint clouds with wet oil paint or do you wait for it to dry and paint in layers?
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you :-))) I do both - I usually put on a first layer of colour and let it dry. And then I apply the next layer that is in most of the cases already the final layer. I work in oil, this allows me to blend the colours in a very easy way.
