I've been using automotive spray paint which is in a spray can. I prime my diecast models and I usually give the primer a few days to cure before I put the top coat on but I've found that after my hard work and nice paint job, the paint is easily chipped or scratched.

Are you sanding the primer before you top coat? Otherwise the color won't ' key' to the primer correctly.

Rob I've been watching you for the last 3 years and I really appreciate that you are taking your time and explaining how to paint I'm a retired us veteran and I want to learn how to paint I used to work on plastic models together and use a little small tester with a paintbrush 1/24 scale models and I did okay. Now I want to learn how to paint with a airbrush because now I collect 1:18 Scale.I imagine they could be very expensive can you let me know where I should buy the airbrush the small one and that big one that you use?👍 also I was doing a research on that 1:18 scale color green Lamborghini by Burago. Like you said borago stepped up their game on that model. With a little Improvement it could be a real nice model! And that's what I want to do when I get mine next week. But since I watched your review on that model that's when I pulled the trigger and purchase the model. I like the fact that you point out flaws in the model and you also point out the good things and a model you get real in-depth when it comes to reviewing the models. I think of you as an expert in your field❗👍👍👍👍👍. Which by the way it is a very expensive Hobby. So far I have in my collection 37 1/18 scale models and Counting..

Thanks for your support Martin and thank you for your service. When it comes to painting my custom models, the airbrush I use is an IWATA Revolution which is superb and you can spray 2K through these if you so desire. I first tried cheap airbrushes off eBay, but they are crap, so don't waste your money on them as you will end up buying a good one anyway. The larger spraygun I use is actually an automotive touch up gun and is made by STAR and the one I use has a 0.8mm nozzle. These guns are also excellent and easy to clean which is important. Just google both of these and find your best available retailer for these and the best price you can get, but I love both these and get the results you see on my video's with my custom models. I try to give honest and in depth reviews to really help all you fellow collectors to make the buying decision easier before you spend your money. And yes, this hobby is expensive, especially if you get into the high end resin's like me.

The import word in this is hardener. I've just sprayed some hot wheels car with tamiya lacquer base and clear top coat but I think I need to add hardener to the clear coat...

Hi, i have 1/8 model that I have scraped to the metal. I purchased automotive paint with 1k lacquer primer. I prepared surface for painting by sanding with 400 grid sandpaper and wiping with lacquer thinner. I applied primer with my spray gun.All my work ended up that primer ripping of with just paint tape… for an experiment, I applied the same primer on steel, and it bites like crazy…. Is it problem with type of metal or what? Do I need to use another primer?

I'm currently building a Ferrari testarossa 1/8 scale model Unfortunately there is damage to the model there's a bend on the left side of the body right by the front left door there's a gap it's obviously damaged in bent and I can't seem to get back into place if you have any suggestions on where I could either find a used Ferrari testarossa body 1/8 scale it would be greatly appreciated.....

If in Australia that $20 spray gun found at auto 1 super cheap or auto barn touch up gun depends on discount day

The 'Star' mini spraygun (0.8 nozzle) that I use is around AUD$119.00 retail. I cannot recommend a cheap $20 spraygun to get the same results that I do with this higher end spraygun.

Dear Rob remember that regera you were going to modify i was wondering how it was going i was thinking of repainting an agera rs but i don't know if i can cover the decals and respray?

I was going to modify that Avanstyle candy red Regera to match the one that was shown at Geneva, but never got around to it. Someone else made versions of that model, I saw them on ebay for sale.

Hi Rob, would you be able to recommend a good complete airbrush kit for someone starting out? I've painted models in the past using spray cans and haven't been happy with the quality of the finish. I have a few nicer models I would like to paint, and don't want to use spray cans anymore! Thanks.

I use an Iwata Revolution airbrush and I highly recommend it. I tried cheaper airbrushes off eBay first and had nothing but problems. The Iwata is easy to clean and sprays great every time after I clean it. Don't waste your money on cheap airbrushes.
