How to Paint: Dwarf Cannon and Crew

Күн бұрынIn this Video we are going to paint the Dwarf Cannon and Crew from the old Warhammer Fantasy Starter Set Battle For Skull Pass. You can also paint your Cities of Sigmar or Dispossessed Army this way, like the Greywater Fastness Start Collecting Box.
I take you through the whole process, starting with the bases and some kitbashing as well as how to paint every single mini with detailed steps.
Later on we try to do some freehand on the banner and create a little snow base with a fortified cannon. Ready to hit some Greenskinz!
Everything you need to know should be explained here, so I highly recommend to try some things even as beginner.

Absolutely amazing work. I rrreally love and appreciate how you take your time to show every step of the process, from basing on. I'm an old skool (ex) painter. My first miniatures was the first GW Night Goblins pack. Although I used to slay them left and right, this video brought up very fond feelings towards the dwarves 😁 Respect from Finland!

@@MiniQuest64 I dabbled here and there, but mainly collected a decent Orc & Goblins Warhammer Fantasy army (5000+ points). I painted the minis that came with the game and used all my money on other old skool figures like Night gobs (my favourite were Squid riders/herders) and Savage Orcs. I also had a few River Trolls, Thraka etc.. My brother collected 40k and I helped him out with his Space Wolves, as well as with my cousins two armies (High Elves and Skaven). We also played and painted the og Space Hulk, Blood Bowl and Hero Quest. I also had a small collection of undead. I stopped painting when I was about 16-17. My two passions were miniatures and playing metal music in a band. As I got older the more I just wanted to play and party...so I guess sex, drugs and rock'n'roll just swept me from the brush haha :D. I ended up GIVING away my whole army, conversions and all...and the kid I gave it to ended up destroying it. The worst decision in my life. Luckily I have a few crappy, worn out minis left just as a reminder. Now my teenage boys are collecting and painting 40k, so the legacy lives on!

Thank you very much for taking the time =) Well I got plenty of old Warhammer Fantasy Orks and Goblins waiting for their tutorial, so maybe there is something for you here in the future! I know these aren't popular themes here on KZfaq but I'm going to paint them anyway, too much love for the old sculpts. Hero Quest and Space Hulk were great, but I never got a chance to play Blood Bowl. Sorry about your army though, I was never a fan of destroying stuff (no matter how old), there is always someone out there who would be happy about the things we don't need anymore. Luckily you went with sex, drugs and alcohol. Imagine sticking to Games Workshop and ending up poor, exhausted and shelves full of grey plastic :D

@Vizzzzer Thank you very much! @Karl makes stuff helped me with the Thumbnail again (he also did with the last one)! I wasn't sure about the pacing and speed of the video overall, but I didn't want to cut it into a 10 min video with flashing pictures. It was nice to see some little improvements, like on the skin and freehand banner! It did feel like I hit a plateau and wasn't improving in the last year.

What a lovely dwarf army you got going on! Great video too. I really did enjoy watching and I will most likely find some inspiration for some of my Dwarf cannons that needs basing going forward.

I love that green and yellow color scheme. You did a great job of getting the cloth to look soft on the banner. Favorite warhammer fantasy unit: Empire Halberdiers :) Can't get enough of them :D The starter set I got started with was 2nd edition WH40k XD

@Karl makes stuff Glad you came to watch Karl, always nice to have you around! For some strange reason I get annoyed from all the green colors while painting orcs... but on dwarfs? Hell gimme more :D The hellbeardiers are a classic, did you paint some on your channel? (2nd Edition Wh40k seems pretty old though! Waaaay before my time :D)

Just use the minis as is for One Page Rules' Age of Fantasy or Age of Fantasy Regiments. The basic rules are free, as are the army lists, and there's a free app for army building.

I use Woodlans Scenics snow. Like 12 pounds for 1L of snow powder. Perfect for snow bases. And looks natural (which is a problem with most snow effects).

Great tutorial, thanks for the video! You mentioned you miss dwarves in WH, have you considered other games? Para Bellum's Conquest has amazing models, some brutal-looking dwarves among them (they can them Dweghom)

Didn't know about Para Bellum, are those the same guys that made this huge dinosaur Orionbeltsminis painted? Will definitely look into them! Guess I just need to clear my mind about non GW Dwarfs, it's strange like with legos :D

Or dwarves, I don't know, they're all look great :D As for Lego, you reminded me of Bionicles :) I ceased looking for new Lego sets long time ago, but I'll never stop appreciating old Bionicles. And technic sport cars. It's classic I'll always remember, no matter what my hobby is right now.

@Nick Kowalski Hell yeah Bionicles, I still got a couple in their round boxes, those were really great and proofed that lego could do well without licensed overpriced stuff ^^ Still have a lot of the old castles, underwater explore stations and space ships. @@MiniQuest64 oh, I'm currently struggling to finish a set of DnD minis. I'm a total newbie at miniatures painting, and after a mandatory squad of ultramarines I decided to try something new and ordered a bunch of cheap WizKids models to experiment with color theory. Bad idea :/ Should've stayed with marines or orks to improve my brushwork first

Hello!! Im a little late but maybe you can still tell me why you primed these dwarfa with metalprimer and for example the slayer with white? Im at the moment repainting my old dwarfs and im scared they will look all different it i use different primers... (like one has super smooth weapons and the othera got brushed and a little wavy ones...and that it wont fit in the end :/)

Hello, my friend, and sorry for my late response! To answer your question, let me explain how I choose primers. Generally, I would prefer black above white primer, because painting mistakes are not as obvious as with a white primer. Where every unpainted white spot will catch your attention immediately. Exception: White paint jobs in general, like you shouldn't prime a Stormtrooper black, or a 40k Black Templar white. Besides, that I choose a different primer, if most of the mini/terrain, will be painted in that specific color. Most of the dwarfs have metal armor, so you are going to save a lot of time by priming them with a metallic primer. Now the Dwarf Slayer doesn't have armor at all, and I choose a white primer, because in general, colors painted on a white primer will appear brighter. And I wanted the orange bears to appear especially bright (and getting an orange base coat on a black primer will be very tedious) As for your fear, while I think armies will look significantly better, if those skin tones and metallic have some kind of variety (especially, a Slayer Unit should stand out, in my opinion), using different primers will only have a slight, if at all visible effect. So nothing to worry about =) You can also just repaint all the weapons with a metal paint, which shouldn't take too much time.

there can be no snow under the cannon. Even if the snow had not been blown away by a shot, it would have melted. Even if not melted, it will be sooty from the shot's smoke and lie in a thin layer. and if the position is abandoned, then there will be snow on both the cannonballs and the cannon.😏
