How to paint Grey Knight Armour the Eavy Metal way.

In this tutorial I will be exploring the general principles of how to paint Grey Knight Armour using my own recipe in an Eavy Metal style.
The paints I used to do this are: Vallejo Dark Aluminium, Vallejo Model Air Silver, Liquitex Prussian Blue Hue and Citadel Black Templar Contrast paint.
I also recommend these alternatives:
Shades: Scale75 Inktense Blue, Pro Acryl Transparent Blue, Citadel Talassar Blue.
Basecoat: for brighter metal Ak 3rd Gen Natural Steel or Citadel Ironbreaker,.
Citadel Leadbelcher or AK 3rd Gen Gun Metal.
Highlight: Citadel Runefang Steel, VMA Aluminium etc.
Castellan Crowe was painted with older citadel paints, if you wish to recreate this more closely the recipe was this:
Base Boltgun Metal, Shade Asurmen Blue, Subtle Glaze of Citadel Blue Ink, Glaze up to Chainmail. Edge Highlight Mithril Silver, Deep Shade Kantor Blue and Abbadon Black. 2:1

I had good luck mixing Vallejo Metal color Silver with Daler rowney process Cyan. Over Vallejo metal color gunmetal. 1 drop of ink to about 6 drops of paint. Add a bit of metallic or glaze medium if you want a shinier color but it works for grimdark and you can add black ink washes over it while still keeping the blue tint in the silver.

Proacryl transprents are a Swiss army knife. Love them as carriers, contrast paint alt, washing more.

Firstly, great video. Very enjoyable and highly informative. Secondly, is this to imply that the actual box art for GW Grey Knights isn't painted using Citadel paints?! And if you did use strictly Citadel paints when painting the box art, what is the motivation to switching paints in this video instead of sticking to the recipe most similar to the one you used as a GW pro?

I got Hexfire because of Thousand Sons, but I've wanted to learn about inks for a while now and this seems like a perfect start. Simple technique but with a lot of room for detail and skill.. I think Ill give this a shot! When you blend the ink, is that just water that you are using? Or a dry brush? or any sort of medium?

Thankyou! Yes just water is fine for inks, you could use lahmium medium or some matte glaze medium however it might change the finish slightly.

When you paint as part of the 'eavy metal team, do they make you use 100% GW products? I imagine awesome painters would already have things like a favourite brush brand they would want to use.

I have to admit I didn't test it because I was trying to stick to currently available products however I see no reason why it shouldn't work. I did try Calth Blue Clear and that was decent but I think the other options here were better.

I use water, with a tiny bit of matt glaze medium (Daler Rowney).

Generally no, I do use brush soap quite often to properly clean my brushes between using them for metallics. Thanks for watching!

As a person with direct experience working for gw, are the conditions good? I have heard rumors of inconsistent pay and other things.

I can only speak for myself however GW underwent a company wide external pay review about 5 years ago that made sure the pay they offered was competitive. So yes I was well paid and the conditions were good.
