I've used pens on paper for most of my life so I've began with silhouettes and worked inwards with them all. This is the video you've been looking for, fellow amateur artists. I've watched loads of videos looking to learn from professionals, and this is the first one where I noticed instant improvement afterwards. The principal of starting simply and adding detail is the same, except you begin with thick lines and chip away at them. When you're refining, it feels like tracing - except it's your own "drawing" that you're tracing. I don't know if that makes sense, but please give it a try.

This is what nobody tells how to start painting. Start from very big spots and then come down short slowly to fine details. Excellent job man.

At first i was like ok i see, everything makes sense. I tried it a couple times (unsuccsesfully) and hen i was like "Oh... OOOOOHHHH". From over blending outline anime stuff to soft blended semi-realistic (as far as i can call it realistic) crisp shading, you really helped me a lot m8 : )

I've heard the tip about "flipping canvas" many times, but I'm too lazy to do it and you are the one who managed to convince me to set a hotkey for it, idk why. As for the tutorial, it literally made me feel like a god because everything is messy but still looks promising. My only complain is..., I'm not sure when to use the "correct" brush on your video, also when I downloaded your brush set (thanks!) it doesn't have the savage version so I had to edit it myself. I think this tech is not good for a newbie like me, this is better for more experienced artists who ready to break some rule. Though it really improves my painting because of the color dynamic. Also!! I rarely watch a tutorial video from start to finish, but this? I enjoyed every second of it!

And of course learn the basics of shading, spacing, proportions, and/or anatomy (based on what you create realistically) I'm probably missing a few learning basics, but I think this video actually will help me a lot in learning! Thanks!

These "simple" ideas of how to draw are so rear, because most artists don't think much about how they can draw that good, they just had lots of practice. Your sentences like "value is material" or "where is NO siluet" sounds like piece of a cosmic wisdom - simple and true.

What you're referring to is putting down a midtone to start, which you can add to (and subtract from). This is common in charcoal/graphite drawing, and with the added layers and effects provided in Photoshop, it allows for a very painterly style.

Very confusing to follow as a beginner but thx for this video. I’ve seen quite a few artist on Instagram use this “messy method” style for digital art, it seems so much faster and the results looks better in my opinion than the traditional way.

Start with something vague, and then add details, to enhance it, improve . . The advantage of starting with something vague is, it sort of just appears, what you need to do, as you ' detail ' it, over time . . The art creates itself, sort of . .

The software Black Ink would be perfect for this technique. Its a weird brushes/lines/shapes focused software. Speed painting of people using it really looks like what you're talking about. (I know i'm 2 years late. SORRY I WAS BUSY)
