This is such a great video, thank you! Hearing you describe how you're making decisions in the moment is so helpful. I've never thought about explicitly trying to use as few strokes as possible but it makes so much sense. This makes me realize that I rely on a "guess and check" method when I get confused or overwhelmed, which leads to a lot of fiddling. You're making all your decisions before your brush hits the canvas and making very specific strokes to fill the shapes you need of each color. Subscribed!

Wow! Thank you so much. 1) What size brush did you use? 2) What brand of brush did you use? 3) Do you wipe your brush when you change the value?

I primarily used a #2 long flat for most of it, then a #2 rigger brush for the finer details. I really prefer the Rosemary Ivory series of brushes but if you can’t get those then a medium firm synthetic brush should work well. I wipe my brush if going from a light to dark value but don’t bother if going from a dark to light value. Thanks for watching!!!

Thank you. I used a permanent alizarin crimson (pr177), ultramarine blue, Hansa yellow medium, cad red light plus white. Maybe some cobalt blue as well. Hard to remember now. :)

Michael where do you buy your Rosemary brushes? Have not been able to find an online source in North America. Also I live in the US. Do you have any on line classes? Love your work.
@MichaelKingArt

You can buy the brushes directly from them in the UK at rosemaryandco dot com. Shipping is very affordable. No online classes just yet. Working on it though. Thank you for asking.

Michael did you use an app to break the cherries into the shapes? If so which app / program did you use?
@MichaelKingArt
@MichaelKingArt 3 жыл бұрын
I used photoshop just to draw lines on it. I would have just used a sharpie but then I would have had to scan it. Photoshop is overkill and to $$ IMO, but Affinity makes an excellent photo editor app that will work. To make things easier you could use a process called Posterize that is standard in most photo apps. Easiest is to just see the shapes yourself and outline them with a pencil or sharpie. It really helps with training yourself to see better.
